I liked it quite a bit. Sure, the acting at the beginning seemed kind of "B" movie-ish, but that was really the only draw-back I had with it.

Of course, I didn't really expect an in-depth plot going in. Hell, it was spawned by a video game. However, there was some good gore, suspense, jumpy scenes (you know, where people in the theater jump), and just some flat out weird shit.

My main problem was with the audience themselves....but then, that is a blog entry on my MySpace space.

I haven't seen it yet, but came across this. Another article said it's been the most defaced movie posters in decades.

Read my lips: A film poster inspires self-expression
By JOE DZIEMIANOWICZ
DAILY NEWS FEATURE WRITER

The freaky poster for the movie "Silent Hill," showing a girl with no mouth, is designed to get people talking.

It's also got them drawing.

Around the city, people are pulling out pens, markers and even lipstick (petal pink, at the 86th and Central Park West subway station) and filling in the child's blank expression.

Seems New Yorkers can't resist putting on a happy face. Everything from simple smileys to huge, gap-toothed grins to O-shaped pouts have appeared on the mouthless mug of 11-year-old actress Jodelle Ferland, who co-stars in the film, opening next Friday.

Some creative types have attached stickers; others have added pictures and puns naughty enough to make a bystander blush.

There's more going on here than outlaw artwork. The artists might unconsciously be leaving telltale clues about themselves. "The mouth expresses a whole range of emotions," says Manhattan psychotherapist Doe Lang. "As such, the drawings represent their feelings about how safe it is to smile."

A tiny mouth — like the sippy-straw- size "o" added to another poster on the upper West Side — might indicate a "tightly buttoned-up person," says Lang. "But someone who draws an enormous Julia Roberts-size smile is apt to feel like the world is a friendly place."

The people behind "Silent Hill" are feeling less than friendly toward the amateur Picassos.

"We're not happy about the fact that people are drawing on the poster, because other people then don't get to see it clean," says Marc Weinstock, a vice president at Sony Pictures. "But we are glad they're not dismissing it. It's arresting. People can't ignore it."

Indeed. Beyond graffiti, there's another sign that the "Silent Hill" poster has registered. A version of it on gossip site Defamer.com had Katie Holmes' face superimposed, along with the title "Silent Birth" — an allusion to Holmes' rumored labor and delivery plans.

Time was, when you wanted people's attention, you whispered. Now, apparently, it's silence that's golden.

I saw this on Friday.
Hated it.
It dragged on so long with no reason to, and I found nothing scary about it.

I watched it on DVD tonight. I found it more frightening than I expected. I agree with the majority of the people here that thought it was too long.

I am a huge fan of the games so I didn't expect much.

First time I saw it I was inconclusive and vowed to return to silent hill when it came out on dvd.

it started out good, the drive to silent hill and subsequent crash, chasing daughter through fog was lifted straight from the game, as were a few other elements but I can't recall much of the movies dialogue since it was some *yawn* cult villagers. In fact the only 2 bits I recall is the excellent Nurse mannequins scene and the one with pyramid head.

So yeah did not like overall but the set peices were cool even if they were lifted or at least inspired by the games scenes.

Frankly the only reason I could ever watch that movie again is two part. Part one would be the ultimate titty twister. When that giant pyramid head monster twore that mormon chick's dress off and then ripped her skin off. The other part would be when the little demon girl goes armageddon on those cult people, and tears priestess through the cooch witht he barbed wire. Other than that I was kind of unimpressed with the acting.

He/She brings up a very cool point that I looked up while watching the movie, based only on some random memory about a place that had a fire that didn't burn out (love that short term memory problem that doesn't include specifics).

There is a town in Centralia, PA that has an underground coal fire from 1962 that burns to this day.

This is one article that talks about the Silent Hill/Centralia connection. http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/Silent-Hill.htm There are also tons of articles and pictures of the real town in other easy-Googled sites.

I saw this beast in theaters when it first came out. I didn't like it. Dont get me wrong it was decent but the acting sucked (female police officer annoyed me) and the pacing was too slow. The effects, however, were pretty good. Overall this film is one of those that does not leave a lasting impression on me.

******** POSSIBLE SPOILERS *********
******** DONT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT *********

from what I understand Radha Mitchell, her daughter and the police women all died in their accidents towards the beginning of the movie. Thats how they are able to enter the alternative version of Silent Hill and the husband cannot find them when he searches the town himself.

Hope that makes sense.

this is one of my favorite movies i ran out and bought it while i still had the rented copy at home lol movies great, special effects are very well done, lots of cool and original deaths, my favorite death is probly when the big dude with the sword ripped the chicks skin off or when the barb wire shoots up chicks couch and out her stomach and rips her apart but best part of the movie is when alissa comes up and theres like 5000 rusty barbwire flying around rippin ppl to shreads (kick ass effects there), very good movie, great for any1 whos into graphic horror movies like myself and for those who didnt get the ending, yea im pretty sure rose and the little girl (forget her name now) and the police officer all died during the crash, well great movie, CHEAK IT OUT!
