But things are slow so I'm trying to lively up ourselves.

What are your five, and only five, favorite songs? I don't want to get into an argument about the "best" songs, just your personal favorites. And if you want to add in a why about the songs, all the better.

I can't really come up with an order for my top 5, so in no particular order.

The Beatles - Revolution
The first time I heard this song was when Nike used in an ad, 15 or so years ago. I don't remember the commercial, but I instantly took a shining to the song.

The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
No matter how many times I've heard it, I never seem to get sick of it.

Led Zepplin - Going to California
Simplicity at its best.

Pearl Jam - Given to Fly
Like Going to California, a real simple guitar line; one that rises and falls like the wave mentioned in the song.

Alice in Chains - Grind
This was the first song I heard off of their eponymous fourth album. At the time everybody was doubting that they had anything left in them due to Layne's heroin use. To come out with "In the darkest hole, you'd be well advised, not to plan my funeral before the body dies," just killed. For a while I even incorporated "Let the sun never blind your eyes, let me sleep so my teeth don't grind," into my nightly prayers.

Okay, ya'll all know I'm a big sissy. But, me, my wife, and about 15 friends went to see Plant at was the Starplex back in the 90's. My son( about 10 at the time) was standing in a seat right next to me. I heard the first few chords of this tune and told everybody what was up and then everybody turned to look at me, and I was crying like freakin' baby. Damn it to hell, I'm tearing up right now. That band will NEVER get old.

NPR had on one of it's podcasts an interview with a guy who will be posting a ton of old concerts that have never been released. They paid a part of one where Led Zepplin was so new they had to introduce all the members of the band. It was sweet. I'll look up whic podcast it was when I get home so you can check it out.

Crying cos of The Zep, it's official: you rule all!!

As for the "Fav Five" thing, it's a toughie. I'll give it a shot, but I know I'll regret leaving something out later.

In no particular order:

Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
This song gets me every time, it's too perfect for words.

The Smiths - Girl Afraid
To be honest, there's about 30 other Smiths songs I could have put here, but this one is just the current favourite. Johnny Marr guitar playing is to die for one this one.

Radiohead - Let Down
My all time favourite Radiohead track.

Billy Joel - Scenes From An Italian Restaurant
An epic.

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
The most perfectly crafted pop song ever written. FACT.

these things are so hard, aren't they. i'm going with my gut reaction, as this list will change on mood and whim.

In no order other than what comes to my head and can get typed out first (not the same as what comes into my head first):

Sonic Youth: Rain on Tin - From the Murray Street album, those guys can make guitars sound strange and awesome at the same time. a melodious song that features a perfect blending of tune and guitar noise, and at a certian point sounds like, well, Rain on Tin.

Soundgarden: Searching with my Good Eye Closed - i don't know what it is about this song that i like so much. I'll bet it's the See 'n Say at the beginning.

Pixies: UMass - This song just rocks the house down, yall.

Frank Black & the Catholics: The Man Who Was Too Loud - An ode to Dick Dale, the king of the surf guitar

Interpol: Obstacle 1 - I just likes it is all.

Some of my favorites change every now and then so here are my favorites at this moment in time.

Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones I have never tired of this song, although roommates of mine cannot say the same.

Tainted Love - Soft Cell Originally done by a 1950's all girl band, I just love the 80s goodness of it all. Plus according to Dr. Who it survives until the end of the planet in 5 billion years.

Littlest Birds - The Be Good Tanyas Just discovered it and haven't gotten it out of my head since. Light and carefree. Great for a Sunday Morning

Hurt - Johnny Cash Only Johnny could take a depressing NIN song and make it that much darker. Just proves how he is the man.

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond Fond memories of this song with friends and in the movie Beautiful Girls.
