I went last year, it was great. This year the headliner is Oyster Head. (Trey Anastasio from Phish, Stewart Copeland from the Police and Les Claypool from Primus are the band members). I'm going again this year. Its the best festival they have in the US year after year.
I assume that you've been to the other festivals around the States so you are making an informed statement.

I heard Radiohead is headlining Bonnaroo, which is really wierd considering Bonnaroo is a hippy festival. I remember two years ago, it made statewide news that apparently the hippies were using drugs at this music festival.
I'm not a huge fan of Bonnarro, even though the lineup this year is Radiohead, Elvis Costello and a bunch of other big names, which is an interesting departure from past groups. It would be worth checking out if I didn't hate hippies so much.
yeah, 2 or 3 years ago Sonic Youth played that show, which i thought was odd, but fitting in a way, as SY will go of on long Guitar Noice tangents,that you would think would be embrased by the "Space Jam" loving non-bathers.

Its not all hippy stuff. They have raves, Hip Hop acts, Primus was there last year. I do go to other festivals. This is the biggest Musical A List Festival in the country. As far as 'The best', that kind of depends on your experience as well. Rolling Stone (maybe you've herd of it) has called it the best fest. in the US, several years in a row.

Rolling Stone (maybe you've herd of it) has called it the best fest. in the US, several years in a row.Nope, never heard of it. But if I had I would say that Rolling Stone would proclaim any fest the best if it has advertising money involved. Even the "Fest in Celebration of my Chest" [held fortnightly at the local Bennigans]
In fact, if you had enough money to toss their way they would proclaim you "the most intelligent, forward-thinking genius ever to populate a web board. Monster of Rock defines a generation." We obviously know that this is not the case.

Not yet.......soon
you'll all see
Strange that I haven't actually listened to Oyster Head yet. As much as I love Les Claypool, I can't stand the Police. It's basically the singing. That stupid Roxanne song gets stuck in my head forever. I hate it. And that is why I've been afraid to listen to Oyster Head. I'm not even sure if the guy from the police is the one singing in the band, if he isn't I might check it out.
Bonnaroo sounds like fun. I know a couple hippies who'd probably go with me, though only if it's in Vermont. They only like to travel to Vermont. Seriously, I can't get them to go anywhere else. Damn hippies...

Damn hippies...Sorry about your friends unwillingness to go anywhere but Vermont, but Bonnaroo is held in Manchester, Tennessee; roughly two hours from Nashville via I-24. I made the mistake of going to a Braves game on the last day of Bonnaroo last year, and on the way back, tons of traffic and tons of Police.
And, with this guy not knowing that Bonnaroo started out as a tiny hippy festival (which is why everyone around here is really surprised about Radiohead headlining the event), as well as quoting Rolling Stone as a viable source for musical opinions (because anyone who thinks for themselves knows Rolling Stone has as much credibilty as a politician) I'm calling "Troll," and it's not just based on the first post. The only thing this person does is advertise, whether it's something they claim to have done, or something his organization is trying to push.
They're still on the list, but Monsters of Rock is now going to be referred to by one of two names;
1) Troll
2) China_Town
Because just like both of them, you piss me off.

I have no affliation to Rolling Stone. I would not recommend anyone buying it due to all the info being on line for free. I also feel Magazines are too expensive these days. When I was a kid it was a cool magazine. I havent read it much recently except for a blurb about Bonaroo last year. I dont know much about the direction the magazine has taken in the last 15 years, but I'm willing to read about it.Ignorance is my only excuse.
