Well, folks, South Park returns to our screens tomorrow, and it looks like they're gonna go straight for Shaft's jugular:
(taken from www.southparkx.net)

"The launch of “South Park’s” 10th season is marked by the triumphant homecoming of school chef, Jerome McElroy. “The Return of Chef!,” premieres Wednesday, March 22 at 10:00 p.m., only COMEDY CENTRAL.

The town is jolted out of a case of the doldrums when Chef suddenly reappears. While Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman are thrilled to have their old friend back, they notice that something about chef seems different. When Chef’s strange behavior starts getting him in trouble, the boys pull out all the stops to save him."

I'm not sure if he recorded his lines before he quit the show, but I doubt it, as episodes are made four days before the show airs. I hope they get someone completely inappropriate to do his voice...just to twist the knife a little.

I saw this on Dark Horizons earlier today and wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning, but I will just in case:

Isaac Hayes Still On "South Park"
Posted: Tuesday March 21st, 2006 11:06pm
Source: TV Guide
Author: Garth Franklin

Isaac Hayes did not quit his gig voicing South Park's Chef over some Scientology flap reports TV Guide.

FoxNews.com has deemed it "ridiculous" that the singer, who has been recovering from a stroke suffered in mid-January, would all of a sudden turn against the show for poking fun at his religion. Those close to Hayes are said to be "mystified" by the statement released March 13 and attributed to him.

Meanwhile he Scientology-skewering "Trapped in a Closet" episode, pulled last week amidst allegations that Tom Cruise had intervened, will air this Wednesday.

I read that this episode is in response to Hayes quitting the show. And, they only had six days to pull this off.

And for those who haven't seen the Scientology episode, you can view it (for free) at www.thesuperficial.com

I laughed like every once in a while, but for the most part I just sat there looking as though I were hit by a truck. South Park still has those lines that make me laugh.

Like:

"I thought the Super Adventure Club, just went on adventures"

" No, thats the adventure club. The SUPER adventure club has sex with young boys."

"Oh? OHH, thats right. Ok."

and

" Now boys pay attention! " Oh, oh yeah!"

They crack me up.

Looks like it will be a good season!

Yeah, the episode was shocking as hell. I felt dirty watching it, but I understand why they did it.

I liked the burning bridge bit, before Chef falls. They said a lot in that episode, especially the "I don't blame him; I blame the fruity little club that scrambled his brains."

TLS
03-23-2006, 10:24 AM
I saw the episode. Wow, it really makes you wonder how a cult/ I mean club can have that much influence over someone's mind. It seems logical to think that they're drugging people or brainwashing them with a thing that goes "Wir wir". It's not normal for friends to get mad at friends over religion. Friends are supposed to laugh together about this kind of stuff.
You can't love life if you spend it hating the people who laugh at it. And if you don't love life, then well, you're in a shitty place.

I like how the kids stuck together and tried everything to bring back the Chef they knew. It made me think that Matt and Trey were going to try to stick by Isaac and try to pull him back into the friend zone. Then the bloody death made me think otherwise. O'well.

Dave
03-23-2006, 12:01 PM
What i thought about last night as i watched it, what if the rumors that Hayes had nothing to do with the press release are true. I have to think that Matt and Trey at least tried to talk to him before this episode went to air. And i suppose that Chef can always come back from the "dark side" if he has to, and help "destroy" the emperor.

"Cartman and Kyle are at war over the popular cartoon, "Family Guy." Kyle loves "Family Guy" and hates Cartman. The two boys embark upon a mad chase across the country and the fate of "Family Guy" lies with the first boy to reach Hollywood."

Sounds like another classic.
I hope they rightfully put Family Guy in it's place, cos it just keeps getting worse and worse.
Not that it was all that hot to begin with though...

I know on this site it's pretty much a given that most don't care for "Family Guy". But dammit, there's some pretty good laughs to be had. Most of the humor borders on "shock" value, cause I find myself asking my son if I just heard what I thought I heard. But really there are some funny lines in there. It ain't all crap. And I guess my crappy sense of humor appreciates a less refined comedy, sometimes. Okay, most the time.

At least the San Fransiscans smelling their own pretentious farts was central to the plot of South Park.

That's my big problem with it, the lack of plot. Somebody tried to convince me that it's like a stand-up comedian - it doesn't need a plot. I don't buy it. They all know that I'm right but don't want to admit it.

I've seen Family Guy a few times. For me, the characters don't seem as funny as they they are annoying. That's also the reason I can't watch Mad TV. If a character is going to have aggravating traits, then there needs to be a balance between the two (funny and annoying) or else the character or show will fail to keep me entertained.
I know lots of people who like the show, and well, they must be doing something right to have so many viewers. I'll be damned if I ever figure out what it is, I guess I'm just not part of their target audience.

I haven't. No chuckles, no titters, no snorts. Okay, Robbo, how many times have you watched a whole show. Once? Twice? Ever? I don't go out of my way to watch it, but if it's on and there isn't anything else on that sparks some interest, I'll watch it. The "flashbacks" are a part of the show that are quick and usually the funniest parts of each episode. Seriously, maybe it's like some albums that need a few listens before the appreciation sets in. Hell, I don't know. Sometimes I just like some silly inane crap. And I think Peter and family fit the bill. And Lois has a nice set of cartoon boobies. :D

I actually tried to like this show, I watched quite a few episodes, and the only time I chuckled (NOT laughed whole heartedly) is when that daughter got caught up with a group of lesbians who were singing "Elvira".

Most of the time I actually got pissed off while watching it, the writers learned nothing from Fibonacci, and to me the show is just tiring to view.

I just saw the episode where they rip on Family Guy, I thought it was pretty funny because they skewer FG with most of the comments that were made on this board. Parker and Stone seem to have more of an agenda and are kinda pissed this season, I just put my DVR to record it for a while.

As far as Family Guy goes, I didn't really like it when it first came out. I think that they put it after the Simpsons and that was a really bad idea. It needed it's own time space, even I can't take that much cartoons all in a row. I had the same complaint about Futurama (if I remember correctly it played on Tuesdays after Simpsons repeats).

I started watching FG when Cartoon network picked it up, then JJ ruined it for me when he described how the jokes worked. Now that is all I get hung up on, it is the same thing every episode, and now reminds me of Home Improvement as far as plot lines go. Oh well, FG is still kind of fun, Brian is funny, Stewie gets some good lines every couple episodes.

Robbo_the_Hood

Yeah, the South Park episode last night was great. When Cartman told Kyle, "Never compare me to Family Guy," you could tell that Parker and Stone get that whole, "You should like FG because your sense of humor are the same," all the time and that this was their response to it.

When Cartman told Kyle, "Never compare me to Family Guy," you could tell that Parker and Stone get that whole, "You should like FG because your sense of humor are the same," all the time and that this was their response to it.Agreed. It had the makings of being one of the best South Parks, but it kind of ran out of steam. The Big Wheel chase scene went on too long. While it was totally predictable that after the "free speech" speech everybody would be down with burying their heads in the sand, it still made me laugh.

I'm thinking that maybe Trey and Matt are tapping into my brain as the only thing that irks me more than people who are all too willing to give up their rights in order to be protected from the bogeyma...I mean terrorists are people that like Family Guy.

Phit, here's what I posted about it earlier this week:

Ah, I see. You're right, that's total crap.
So many people have jumped on the FG wagon of late round my way, some of them are even saying it's better than The Simpsons in it's heyday...which is just ridiculous.
The show has no heart, and the writers clearly don't care about their characters.

I laughed more at the Family Guy on South Park than i ever had during the real show. (it was the Knight Rider teeth thing). I tried explaining my disdain for the show to people at work, and you'd have thought i told them i thru a bag of puppies in the river! Some even went so far as to try to get me to admit that i just "don't get it" which is rediculas, since there is nothing to get.

I was watching Oberman (sp?) the other week (i think it was during the Chef/SP thing) and he had Ken Tucker from Entertainment Weekly on, and Keith was flabbergasted that Tucker gave Family Guy a bad review. It made me sad a little, and at the same time, restored my faith in humanity a little.

So it turns out Comedy Central did indeed puss out. and as much as i loath to agree with that Catholic Family guy, Matt and Trey are a little to blame. While the Jesus and Bush Crap thing will totally be taken out of context by Right Wing Talking Heads (already has been by Tucker Carlson). The episode does clearly illustrate how people will bow to Islam but you can have free reign to shit on any other religion. CC totally missed the point of the past two weeks episodes. Shame on them.

I hate to say it, but a think last night's ep was quite possibly the worst episode of South Park ever.
I laughed not once, and at times just felt embarrassed watching it.
Awful, awful, awful!

Cartman: "Towlie, you are the worst character ever."
Towlie: "I know."

I chuckled some at the end..

I don't need to get high to have good ideas, I get the idea first, then get high afterword to reward myself.

That episode was not one of my favorites, but it had some funny parts.

She used play with me all night long, now, not even so much as a pinkie goes in.

I want to see Paris.

Your just an asshole!!

This whole season seems to have gone down a peg in the humor department, but I wouldn't be suprised at all to see this being one of the highest rated seasons. With the Terry Schiavo episode winning an emmy, the show getting a Peabody Award, and all the water cooler talk I've heard about the Mohammad episode, South Park has really become appointment TV for those who want to stay "in the know".

At least that's my impression. Granted, where I work there is probably no one over 28, but every Thursday morning every one asks "did you watch last night?"

Oh, and what ever the show has lost in humor it has more than made up for in cleverness. Even the 'Mingy' episode has to be appreciated, if only for the fact that Matt and Trey had the balls to fill up 20 minutes with still shots of a crotch and two voices.

I swore I'd never watch the Million Little Fibers ep again, but I was forced to because my house mates hadn't seen it. I definitely enjoyed it more second time around. It's still bad, but I did like "Burn that which lies to Oprah".
Wednesday's episode was pure gold though, Cartman had me in convulsions.

Kyle: "Swim Cartman, kick with your legs."

Eric: "I can't swim, you just have to save me."

now it's a tossup between the Hybrid-owner-smells-his-own-farts episode or the al-gore-is-a-loser-manbearpig-cartman-crapping-treasure...

and it just so happens that both of those were PWNT by the new one with Cesar Millan...that dog whisperer guy.

I'm amazed how they didnt quite make fun of him...but they kind of made fun AT him...

TSST!
