Im a movie junkie, I buy quite a few DVDs and rent even more.
I have been using blockbuster as a source for rentals (not buying, as if im going to pay 14$ for a used DVD) for awhile.
No more
Im fed up with Blockbusters lousy selection and poopy customer service.
Please, fast, somebody, anybody recommend a good source for dvd rentals before I go into movie withdrawal and resort to using blockbusters services again!
Please excuse any bad grammar, Im a bit wiped out after spending 2 hrs trying to get hold of a customer service representative from this piece of poo company.
Ooo, and if you could recommend companies that have good foreign film selections that would be super fabulous :)

If you are looking for an actual store...try Movie Gallery or Hastings Books if you have either in your area. They are normally pretty good.
I don't use it, but I hear NetFlix is really good. A lot of people I know use them for rentals and they have different pay plans.

I am still a fan of NetFlix. The selection on unusual older movies is great. Even though it will occasionally tell me there is a wait on newer titles I haven't ever actually had to wait. I like having the queue that is constantly reworkable. I also like being able to add movies that haven't even been released in theaters yet, so when they get near to the release time I can get them on day one.
I am not a Blockbuster fan in any way, so I try to avoid them at all costs. When I lived in Illinois I went to a wonderful place called Family Video, but I think it was just a local chain.

i resent the implication that all blockbuster service is bad. i was downright cool to my customers when i worked there =[
i was thinking about doing netflix until i read an article about how they have a program that if you do a high amount of renting they delay the availability of some movies to you b/c you have such a high rate of renting.

I didn't have a prob with Blockbuster service, but I did have a prob with their shitty range of movies. I even asked the guy once if they keep all the good movies in a secret room out the back, and how I could gain access to them. Yeah, I don't go there anymore.

yea, i worked at a very small franchise blockbuster so our selection was even shittier then most. but i enjoyed the whole experience. except the pay. 5.75/hr and they got to the point where they were only working me 1 day a week.

Ahhh, the franchise Blockbuster. I remember those days as well, and how we never did the nationally advertized promotions, and that it was all my fault. Fortunately the "No Late Fees" thing started after I had left, and after seeing the commercials, I said to my then-girlfriend, "There are going to be a lot of unhappy people in Nashville. All the stores around here are franchises and not a part of the corporate chain. They aren't going to run that same promotion." Sure enough, within two weeks the local news runs a story on why the evil local Blockbusters aren't honoring the "No More Late Fees" deal. I am happy as hell I didn't have to go through that.

I have never had a problem with Netflix holding anything on me and I have a REALLY high rate of renting. I think that is a myth. Often my queue will say that the movie has a short or long wait but it always seems to arrive exactly on time regardless.

Aren't the National Blockbusters not even honoring that anymore?

If there are any Canadians out there, Zip.ca isn't too bad. Although I hate all this bull*&@#^$ they have now with a limit to how many movies you can have out each month.

Aren't the National Blockbusters not even honoring that anymore? They are here...and I'm loving it. We stopped renting movies because we could never get them back in time...mainly out of laziness. If you make a circle of radius 1.5 miles centered at our house, 3 Blockbusters would fall inside that circle. And yet we can never get movies back on time. Thank God for no late fees. I think that it will ultimately bring about the demise of Blockbuster, though.

Really? That's even the excuse that I used to use when attempting to get them to drop some of my charges.
has that ever worked?
I think if you don't rent for a while, they drop you out of the system, clearing your slate.

Blockbuster has your credit card, so they can put a charge off on your credit report...bad news. Hollywood doesn't have your credit card, so they just keep your fee...eternally as near as I can tell.
But yes, I got a $35 fee from Hollywood halved.
I quess that my Blockbuster card is so old, that they don't have my credit card information. I've been holding the same card for easily a decade, and went several years without ever using it. But about a month ago when i finally went to a Blockbuster again, it worked like a charm.
