Why do rappers and so-called gangster's brag about their life in the ghetto? From my experience in a poor community it is nothing to brag about. It just confuses me and what makes it better they praise the Lord but they also defy every commandment! I was just wondeing why they do this, can anyone tell me?

It's called street cred. If they ain't got it, they ain't got no record sales, either.

Hell, just pick up the soundtrack to Dave Chappelle's Block Party. It's a great representation of the genre without all the shoot 'em up, bitches and hoes crap.

As far as street cred goes, the only people that use it are posers. I've had enough of Young Bucks old teachers come in my store and say, "He was always such a nice boy," enough to know posing when I see it.

Yeah, yeah, I'm lickin' your balls, best balls I ever had. Uh-huh, you've got King-Kong balls. Your balls are so large, just big balls, I don't care. You just got big balls.

Just because there might be one or two exceptions doen't mean the rule doesn't apply in a general since.

De La Soul
Tribe Called Quest
Common
Kanye West
the Roots
Jurrasic 5
Dead Prez
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Guru
Pete Rock
Wyclef Jean

I can name more. These are all valid hip-hop artists that don't have to pretend they're from the streets to sell records. In many cases, that's what makes them better.

I was just being a smart-ass. I wouldn't know if where any of the "rap" stars are from. I HATE rape.

I made the mistake of going to see Dave Chappelle's Block Party, thinking I was gonna have a laugh. Man, was that a mistake. I mean I was able to tolerate some of the shit but after a while it just got old. I mean how many times to you have to hear the white man is the devil before you want to get up and leave. Wycleff was the only person I heard say otherwise. If its not about killing other gangstas its about Kill the White man.

So, it is really only a matter of opinon. Mine is as invalid as it comes with Rap. I HATE it. It make me feel sick to my stomach.

And you don't have to like rap. It isn't made with you in mind. Most white people didn't like rock and roll before it became the accepted mainstream genre. You may not like it, but get used to it.

I don't really see Kanye as a gangsta... I'm thinking of N.W.A., Snoop, Eazy-E, etc... Kanye just a poser wanne-be manufactured hip-hop shooting star. And just like a shooting star, he'll just be a flash in the night and then *poof* nothing.

I went to see the film, too.

First, It was not a film. It was a concert, with a few comedy bites in the middle. If had had known that I would not have seen it it theatres. I would have waited until video.

Anyway, I can tolerate rap. I just don't enjoy it. I used to. I was crazy into Three Six back in the day. I was a huge fan of Bone. Loved all the old Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Tupac, NWA, all that stuff.....Just not anymore.

One day I just started hating it. It just became repedative and annoying. So, I stoped listening to it. ...and here I am.
