I saw on the local news last night the only Texan in the final 25. He reminded me of Donnie Osmond. I can't say Donnie Osmond does much for me.

anyone else in this boat?As usual, Tivo has watched this week's worth of episodes, but I haven't yet. Been a busy, busy week. Yesterday I had to go do all the "husband work" at my sister-in-laws since her husband works in California 25 days a month. I had to keep dogs from having sex, un-stop a nasty toilet, un-stop a sink, and put a new power source in her computer. Like I don't have shit to do at my house...

Was he the one that sang the Stray Cats song. I can't say that he was in group of favorites, but he was handsome enought that a certain segment of the population will dig him, i'm sure.

Your Tivo gets to have all the fun doesnt it. I won't even tell you what it's watching once you go to bed. How did you stop the dogs from having sex, and couldn't your sister-in-law have just applied the peanut butter herself? and what is it with ladies and their stopped up commodes. Am i right fellows?

I am always amazed that women seem to be unable to do the simplest household tasks when they KNOW there is a man nearby that will do it for them. [insert poor pathetic eye-batting look here]
Of course, I know a guy who got all on my case a while back because i didn't want help with something in my own house that I knew how to do. I flatly told him that the reason why is because I was doing it the way that would satisfy me and then I didn't have to hear the requisite grumbing that came along with it. It's win win in my mind. He obviously didn't get it.
I went out and bought a couple manuals. It's amazing what I learned.

Cinderblocks.
Come on JJ, surely there was an easier way to keep the dogs from doing it, then tieing a Cinderblock to their necks and throwing them in the creek... that's just cruel.

She was mainly concerned about puppies, so I did what any smart person would do, I crushed the boy dog's testicles between two cinderblocks...I'm cruel, I'm not a dog killer.
To come to her defense, she did try to unplug the toilet. I had to use a snake to do it, a plunger wouldn't have worked.

Paris has the best chance(my wife's and mine favorite). IMO. But, that high note Sway hit the other nite gave me the Mariah Carey cringe(falsetto creeps me out, sometimes). Ace seems to be this year's Bo. But he did a George Michael tune, and nailed it. And swooned the women with "the look". My daughter and her boyfriend are Taylor Hicks fans. Me, too. But none of these kids know he's doing Joe Cocker. Yeah, I'm hooked again. Of course I'm gonna put in my 2 cents for Chris Daughtry and Bucky Covington. Both "rockers" from the South.
Oh yeah. And, I'd love to tickle Pickler.

This crap is actually still on TV?And kicking the shit out of Olympic coverage. Go figure.
My theory on that is that with only 2 years between the summer and winter games, there is no time to miss the games. they should move them back to being in the same year. and show them live, with a "Highlights" show during prime time.

The coverage this year was piss-poor, wasn't it? I honestly hate these stupid humanitarian pieces about how said athlete got to where they are. That's why we have the color comentator, to fill in those gaps in between the play-by-play. Those pieces are aweful, and I'm sick of sitting through them to watch two bob sled runs and three minutes of commercials.
These human intrest pieces are almost as bad as the same damned story I hear on the news every single day: the one with the nineteen-year-old girl who has been married for two months, pregnant for six, and her husband was just sent to Iraq. The Olympic coverage was almost as bad as the coverage of the Iraq war.

So I finally got around to watching this past week's Idol. Like Dave, I do enjoy Taylor, but he seems like a terrible fit for American Idol. I'd like to see him get booted next week and then given a recording contract.
Paris' Gladys Knight was awesome. She should have saved that for the finals. Tough to top.
Taylor rocked the house down again last night. I liked Paris too. but thought Chris' "higher ground" was kind of weak. The judges said he made the song his own, but i just didn't think it was that good. Still, i'll probably be voting for him once Taylor gets kicked off.
Also that little kid who looks like Chicken Little, cracks me up with his back talk to Simon.
Dear Lord, i am so lame to be watching this show...

"made the song his own" as in, made the song sound like a copy of the Chili Peppers instead of a copy of Stevie Wonder.
No surprise that Melissa went home. I liked her but I could tell she wasn't going to go far. I think Taylor is my favorite so far. The only guy in the competition I could see myself going to a club to see.

The wife loves Chris, but he has this sort of wavering in his voice when he carries notes that makes me think that he would fit in quite well in the hair-metal 80's. It bothers me. If I wanted to hear that, I'd listen to Shinedown. I can't believe that Melissa blew the lyrics on Lately. That's probably my favorite Stevie song.
Don't worry Dave, you're only as lame as the rest of us.

I was hoping Rickey Minor would play Flea's bass line. The bass playing on "Idol" is half the reason I watch\listen to the show. The guy is great, and adds some awesome riffs to songs that otherwise would just be so-so. Every song there is a bass line that stands out. Freakin' love it.

Alright, so as this week's Idol ends, I must say, this has been the best night in all of five seasons of the show. One word - Manilow.
Hahaha, he is just fab, but I think my favorite one of the night has to be Mandesa, followed by Katherine McPheever. Liked both of them. They were fab.
Not sure who is going to get kicked off today, but my vote would probably go towards Lisa Tucker... or Kellie Pickler. My god, she is a moron. Oh my god! OH MY GOD! How could she have been that facinated with a pickle!? Well, at least she can sing...just as long as she doesn't speak, we will be ok.
Oh, and one more thing, was Paula either drunk tonight, or was it just me?
Paula was definately on something.
I don't get the love for Pickler either, and yet i have a pickle i'm sure she would be fascinated by.....
I thought Chris had an outstanding performance last night, even if he did rip off Live's version (http://www.soulpatrolshirts.com/media/walktheline.mp3) of Walk the Line. When i heard he was doing Johnny Cash, i told my wife, watch him come out with Social Distortions version of Ring of Fire and claim it as his "own". I was close.
Buddy Holley must be a hard act to do, because while i was less bored with Taylor's performance than Bucky's. It was too repetative, i think. Did like the bit where he went into the audience though, and you could see Paula swaying drunkenly. I thought he looked like Pee Wee Herman in that suit thought.
Mandessa brought it strong last night to open the show too.
Look what our old friend D.J. Coffman has come up with!

Thank god I wasn't the only one who noticed Paula's "problem." She totally looked either high off valium (sp?) or drunk. It just amazes me she is still on the show. She probably has the worst judging abilities of anyone I've seen... even Danny Bonaduce can hide he is drunk.
And, as I was watching the news this morning, no one was talking about Mandisa. No one! The only person I heard talking about her was this guy named Sam Rubin that said she just did ok! OK!? Was I the only one that was opening my ears up last night. She brought it hard!

If you can imagine, I haven't watched it yet. But, the wife and I have been commenting all season on the highness of Paula.

I told my wife that Paula was snorting crunched up Valium. I need to see her doctor.
Mandisa kicked ass. Cankles, and all.
Kevin should never have made the finals. Pre-teen, old lady factor.
Told my wife last nite, Chris sings every song as if written by Fuel or Live.(never knew Live did that version 'til now).
Pickler is dumber than my doormat. Or, she's over-playing the "cute" card. Freakin' mink.
Paris still hard to beat. How in the hell has Manilow never heard Patsy Clines' "Walkin' After Midnight". Un-fuckin'-believable.
And who gives a flying shit about Ryan Cabrera and Constantine?
I know i don't. I'm not even sure i know who Ryan Cabrera is except he dated a Simpson (Lisa i think)
Welp, last night sure was "21st Century" night. Instead the theme should have been called "Suck Night '06" It started out poorly with Lisa singing a Kelly Clarkson song, and never really got better, while i fully admit that i'm in the Soul Patrol, i'm giving Taylor Hicks the winner of the night, for singing some song i had never heard before and singing it well. Next comes Mandessa, i guess, then Paris? maybe Elliott. i really don't know. Everyone was pretty Meh. Bottom Three should be Pickler, Bucky, and Lisa. Chris dropped super-way down my list. I had him pegged as singing some Fuel song, instead he screams a crappy Creed cover. Oh, how i loath you Creed. It's weird how someone you enjoyed at the beginning of the show, pisses you off after a few weeks.

After watching last night, I'm convinced that no good music has come out this century!
I think you nailed the bottom three and Chris' suckiness. When he said that Creed was one of his favorite bands...
I think that I would pay to see Creed perform over hearing his crappy version for free.
I loved that Paula said that Taylor was teaching the younger generation about the "legends." I'm guessing that she probably doesn't know that Ray LaMontagne has only one album.

I was surprised the judges loved McPhee so much. She's a good singer usually but that Aguilera performance almost made my ears bleed. The winners were definitely Hicks and Elliot for me. I would say Ace edged Bucky out of the bottom three and I hate country. I'd rather listen to Chris sing Creed than another Pickler bumpkin' song.

The song Chris did, "What If", we covered. That song was some kinda fun bass playing. In fact all the Creed tunes we covered were fun to play. And I don't give a crapola about how most of you feel about Creed. I got tired of Stapp long before most of the rest of the country. But that doesn't change the fact that in podunk Waco, in every crappy little dive, the songs were crowd-pleasers.
OK, about last nite. It sucked. Worst performances this season. Enuf said.
Well, one more thing. I think we've got a good chance of seeing Abdul overdose on live television this year. What the fuck is that chick on?

Adbul amazes me. She is crazed out of her mind and she is on drugs - That Dr. Phil is why she can't get a date!
As far as last night goes, I felt it was very rushed and very boring. Like everyone was nervous because of the time frame, and Simon was just bitchier than ever - I love it!

Was it just my imagination, or did Seacrest say that next week's theme is country? If so, count me out.
God, i thought i heard that somewhere too, i was hoping it was just a bad dream. It's bad enought that we have Pickler and Bucky trying out for Nashville Star every week, now the whole cast has to do that too. Still i have to wonder what 'country' song Chris Daugherty is going to pick, perhaps Johnny Cash's "Rusty Cage" and he'll rearrange it like Audioslave or something.

Ok, so I just finished watching 'American Idol' from last night, and I must say, it was horrid.
My brother loves Queen, so we hear it a lot here in the Smurf household. And, so, he and I were excited to see they were finally going to do something exciting...that was not the case.
Basically, my brother and I agreed that we liked Katherine McPhee the best out of the whole group, followed by Elliot. And, even the George Clooney-haired guy was pretty good, but Kelly Pickler singing Rhapsody?! Who the heck in Hadeus allowed her to sing that?
Eh, lackluster night. This was on par with the season that did a Gloria Estefan night - great songs, just not great singers who can kick ass and take names.
And next week is Rod Stewart night or something (promoting his new American Classics Album) Is A.I. becoming the place where washed up singers go to plug there wears? it sure seems like it.
I was suprised by Elliot being in the bottom 3, as i thought he was one of the best that night. Admittedly, i just listened to him, while i read the paper, so maybe visually it wasn't good, but audably it was great, i thought. Missed microphone kick and all, i felt Taylor ruled the night, but that Paris was close on his heels. My love of McPhees boobies kept her in the top for me.
Pickler is an embarassment. I could accept her, if only she would keep her mouth shut, but she doesn't. She looked like Olivia Newton John at the end of Grease, and that my friends is not a complement. Ace sucked and should have been sent home, it was his time, not Bucky's.

Bye-bye, Bucky. This competition is getting tighter by the minute. Ace is gone next, IMO. He's been in the bottom three for the last 3 or 4 weeks. Chris is such a Ed Kawolczyk freak. Looks familar. Huh?
http://www.friendsoflive.com/images/band/kowalczyk.jpg
Every song he sings is like a Live cover. I was big on his bandwagon at the beginning of the show, but after he claimed Live's version of Walk the Line as his own, then gave a lame explanation for it the next week, he's dead to me. Elliot has now taken his place.
I look forward to the return of "theme weeks" where the contestants can choose from a wider range of material. I'm hoping for an 80's Hair Band week where we can be graced with covers of E'nuff Z'nuff and Tesla and Extreme and Firehouse. And for the ladies, Vixen, Lita Ford and Poison.

Bucky did so much better than Ace last night, and Elliot was really good, I am just sad that Ace and his "eye fuckery" - as you call it - aren't gone from the show. I hate that bastard.
And, you liked Paris!? My gosh, the arrangement of her song was only "The Show Must Go on!" If I wanted to hear that for 1:30, I could have put on my Moulin Rouge album and listened to a better arrangement... blah, she was horrid. But, I like her. I think she has a great singing voice, and as long as she doesn't talk, we're cool!

I quite agree with most everybody's assesments. The wife and I decided that we would pick who would be voted off prior to hearing them sing - based soley on knowing that it was Queen night - and then again after hearing them sing.
Prior, I picked Bucky, she picked Taylor.
After, we both picked Ace. Simon put if perfectly, "We will rock you, gently." I feel like I should support him since he's from Colorado, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
"On paper?" My God, she has to be at least mildly retarded. Did anybody else expect her brother to say, "I'm Forrest, Forrest Gump"? He sounded just like the young Forrest.

Let me ask you this. Is it really considered 'cool' to prance around with sleeveless shirts like our boy ACE is doing, in Colorado. Because i think you'd get your ass kicked for doing something like that around here.
Not really, there are plenty of Mullet'ed, cut-off jeans wearing 'necks who like to show their guns, but really Ace, your on national TV, find some sleeves friend, then kindly remove yourself from American Idol

Tough call, but I think Vlassic will go.
words and lyrics are the same thing, Kellie....
I thought it was funny how Taylor got is words all mixed up trying to say "imitiation is the sincerest form of flattery." by saying something like, "Flattery is the sincerest form of comedy", or something like that.
And why can they not let the people sing the whole song now. maybe next week when we are down to six.

Yeah I caught that over there. Good stuff.
I think that Taylor's southernness makes him likely to win. I seem to recall that most of the other winners were southerners. Nothing else to do down there other than calling Idol a whole bunch of times.
While that maybe true ;) (especially on a tuesday night), the lower population surely evens out the score as far as voting is concerned...
In the past 5 Idols, Birmingham has had contestants go deep 3 times (Ruben, Bo Bice and Taylor) There is something weird about that. I feel like Taylor is the best of them all. As cheesy as he is, he seems like he's genuinely pretty nice, and wont get the big head when it's all over.

I'm not jealous! Why does everyone keep saying that? I think she is talented, but she is a flipping bitch! It shows.
And, are you saying that Kelly and Carrie aren't good looking?
Anybody else think that Kat won the competition last night by singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow? As good as Taylor's Joe Cocker was, Kat's was 12.5x better.
My hate for that song knows no bounds... But i'll take the judges word for it, and say it was good. The accupella at the beginning bothered me a bit, as i felt it was shades of Bo Bice...
I feel like Elliott's days on Idol are over, and it's too bad, because he's my favorite. Simon telling him he did his Mum proud, was nice.
Speaking of Simon, did he goose Paula's snatch last night?

And, are you saying that Kelly and Carrie aren't good looking?Come on, Kelly was a porker before they shaped her up a little bit after she won. Tamyra Gray was HOT and better than Kelly Clarkson. And there was a much more attractive girl in last years competition who was hands down the only talented person in the bunch...or maybe it was the year before, I don't watch it. Basically, Kelly and Carrie were either non-threatening, or the least threatening to Jane Q. Idol Watcher. The most attractive girl in the competition never wins, and in my independant studies, I've found that the reason most women vote against the hot girl is because "so-and-so is a bitch," or, "she thinks she's more talented than everybody else." This is every girl, not just you, Smurfy.
Coincidentally, have you ever seen a woman flip through the pages of one of those weekly star-stalking magazines. Every page is, "I hate this person. Oh, she's a bitch. She is too." These are girls that have never, nor will ever meet these stars, but declare how awful the person is anyway.
It is the same mentality that is behind American Idol voting. For some reason, women are threatened by these images in print or on screen for no other reason than they might be more attractive to some man somewhere, and she may one day steal him away.
The opposite of this is when a woman, or girl buys an album like NSync or the Backstreet Boys. The mentality there is a girl thinks this somehow this connects her to the band in some way; the band members are monitoring a computer and notice a blip in the girl's area and they'll come and find her. We'll all agree that the music is terrible, so it stands to reason that women cannot decipher a difference between asthetics and quality.
For the most part, guys don't fall prey to the asthetics when it comes to their music. Look at Britney Spears; her fanbase is mostly adolescent girls. Sure Britney is hot; so is my ex-girlfriend, but that doesn't mean I want to listen to her.

I could have gone on to explain what I meant, but at the time I was angry at your post.
The reason why I said the same thing is because, like it or not, men can be caddy, too. For example, recently while looking through a GQ magazine I was asked by someone if I thought Matthew Fox was cute, I said, yeah, sure. He has a rugged look. They looked at me and said he was a "pussy."
And as far as the BSB comment goes, I've never picked up a cd and wished and hoped they would one day find me so I could marry them. Sadly, I actually liked their music.

I stand by my pick. That being said, Kat's first single is going to suuuuuck.
They were both horrrrrrrid songs.... Ugggg. Did they make them sing 2 songs that had already been sung, or is that something that the kids chose to do? It made for a bit of a boring night, i think. I would have liked to have seen something new from both of them before the suckfest that is those 2 cookie cutter songs. It was like someone turned on a generic songwriting program and out popped those two jems...
Still Taylor did the best last night, i think, especially on the "coronation" song....
jjcourtright
05-24-2006, 03:58 PM

I thought she sounded flat on "My Destiny" which was a song that made even my ballad loving heart want to vomit.
In fact, the few pieces of Idol I have seen the girl (Kat?) has sang well 50% of the song and been flat the second half. She BUTCHERED Against All Odds, which isn't a song that is too hard to sing. She also has a lot of trouble in the lower register, so she should only pick stuff that relies on being above middle C.
Taylor seems fun, he obviously likes what he is doing. There is a certain wedding singer charm to him, good voice, better stage presence. It all depends on what he decides to do after this. Like I said, I have only seen bits and pieces.
Robbo_the_Hood
05-25-2006, 12:35 PM
It all depends on what he decides to do after this. He won't decide anything. The people that own him now will decide what he does from now on. The American Idle winner receives the worst contract that nobody would want.

i want you people to know that last night, i witnessed the most bizarre thing i've seen in a while. Taylor Hicks playing harmonica with Snoop Dogg during a performance of Gin and Juice. I'm sure there is video floating around somewhere, when i find it, i'll post it. It was surprisingly good.
Here's video (http://www.myfoxal.com/myfox/pages/Entertainment/Detail?p16Params=115114@@1@@EN-US@@VSTY@@70001@@/Entertainment/Detail@@/Entertainment/Index&pageId=7.1&p21Params=c@@4@@70001@@Top%20Entertainment%20News@ @/Entertainment/Detail@@/Entertainment/Index) from the local Fox affiliate. It's censored, of course, but give a fairly good impression of what went down. i'll see if i can find some better footage later.
Here's shakey video of the Snoop / Hicks performance (http://youtube.com/watch?v=NlrVQN6TdFg&search=taylor%20hicks%20snoop) the harmonica just adds another layer to the background i guess. It wasn't that bad.

Just what this week's...
What. The. Fuck?
Luckily, I still haven't caught the spoiler. I haven't checked the DVR, but the wife, and a buddy from work, tell me it's some kinda fucked up. It's gotta be one of the top 4 that we thought would get to the "finals". I heard the judges went ballistic. Fuckin' people don't call in for their favorites because they think they're safe. Nobody's safe.

I wasn't crazy about her because I thought she was a singing robot (and looked like a Kardashian) but no way did she deserve to go.
This week is going to be interesting!

I think Jacob is going home tonite. Durbin is killing it every feckin' song. Everybody had a pretty good nite except for Haley with that un-released Gaga tune. Dumb. But she knocked it out of the park with "House of the Rising Sun", I thought.
Damn, I hope James wins it all. :)
Oh, and I guess even one of the best actors in history, and a knight, to boot, enjoy "absorbing any old shit". He was in the audience last nite. And, before anyone says it was for promoting "Thor", I'll call bullshit. He ain't gonna sign no contract in the fuckin' world that has him doing something he doesn feel like doing. ;)

I was pissed that Casey left last week but I think he got too cocky and didn't concentrate on his performances.
I think james will win but I'm not particularly interested in him. All the guys who I thought were cool are gone now.
Although I wouldn't throw Haley out of bed ;)
