View Full Version : Unrated vs. Theatrical release
I picked up a copy of The Devil's Rejects Unrated DVD. I've watched it a couple of times already, with and without the commentary, all the extras and so on and so forth. It wasn't that long ago that I saw it in the theater so it was fairly fresh in my mind. I couldn't tell where anything had been added that would warrant it being an "unrated" version of the movie. I haven't really researched it on the 'net or anything yet- right now this is a casual observation. My point though, are there any other discs out there that were an unrated dissappointment compared to the theatrical release? In reference to the Rejects, I very much enjoyed the film, but they tacked that unrated label on the DVD and I was expecting a little more than maybe a second or two added in here and there.
I think that the "unrated" label is mostly a promotional tool. It's like a MORE XTREEM soda or something. really all it means is what you've stated above.

I've only seen the "unrated" version of 40 Year Old Virgin, and there just seemed to be alot of superfluous stuff in it.
Unrated only means that it is not the edit that was approved by the MPAA. Doesn't mean it's gorier, or nakedier, just that it wasn't the theater-approved cut.
Slate had an article about the unrated phenomenon last month: http://www.slate.com/id/2134503/

Yeah, the unrated deal is to make people think there's more boobies, but as I figured, it's just stuff that wasn't approved by the MPAA, but only because it wasn't in the version they saw. Whether that's 30 seconds, or 30 minutes, it's technically 'unrated.'

yeah like how team america's unrated added the 12 seconds of scat-sex. I didn't really lose sleep over that, your best comparison for those kind of things is to compare the runtimes on the back of the box.
