View Full Version : So is V for Vendetta going to suck?

I'm a huge fan of the book and I think a movie adaptation could be great. It just seems too bad that people are prejudging the movie based on the directors.

So, are you going to give the movie a chance?

Is it going to be too matrixy (too much emphasis on effects and action)?

Will the story suffer?

Do you care?

I'm just curious since I have been very excited about it but most of the comics and movie fans I know seem to think it's going to blow.

I think it will ROCK because they actually have loved this book for so long they won't do anything to muck it up. It was a HUGE influence on the first Matrix.

I vote it will RULE.

Suck its what caused the Moore DC split.

just because alan moore thinks it sucks doesnt mean it does . . . it's his baby, and artists tend to be pretty sensitive about what they create. Based on the trailer, I think I'll dig it. I'm usuallt forgiving about book-to-movie translations, and even comic-to-movie translations, which people tend to make a big deal about.

Hell, I wasn't even THAT pissed about organic web shooters, so if they change a couple things around with V, I'll be able to live with it.

Just think about how much they could have changed it, especially considering that the main character is a TERRORIST and people aren't exactly big on guerilla/terrorist tactics at this moment in time. Based on the trailer(s), I would say more of the story is intact than I had originally expected.

I think we can all agree that the upcoming Watchmen movie will suck though.

The general word out there is that the V For Vendetta movie is great. I have to say as a first note that the Wachowski brothers aren't the directors. They are the writers and producers. Flick was directed by James McTeigue. That said, they apparently still had a ton of influence on the direction.

From what I've read, the movie succeeds on many different levels.....as a Sci-Fi flick, as a comic translation......as an artsy political commentary. It's been getting good reviews from the sophisticate crowd and the comic-con crowd. I don't want to go into all kinds of specifics because I don't want to over-hype it. As a fan of the book, I'm glad enough to know it's accepted by the comic fans and the art crowd. I can relax knowing that.

As for Watchmen, I think that movie's going to rock. Especially if Paul Greengrass stays with the project. Everybody's so scared about this property. I LOVE The Watchmen, and I'm one of the people who thinks this can succeed as a 3-hour theater piece rather than an HBO series. I have faith.

What the hell is 'micmic'? Are you a Beastie Boy? "Get on the mic/Just get on the mic/get on the micmic"? I don't think so. Learn how to express a coherent thought, for Christ's sake. Until then, go to your room...

Brilliant comeback. Absolutely brilliant. I applaud you, sir. You are the reigning king of internet put downs...

Wait a minute, let me turn off the sarcasm switch...
There we go...

What's this?
So now I see that your trying to embaress me in front of other posters? Your going out of private messages? well that was not good. I may be young, but you would not believe the things that I can do on a computer. I grew up with computers and there is nothing stopping me from doing what ever the fuck I want to give you a bad name if you dont stop.

You see, we could have been friends, Im not really a mean guy, but since your such a little fucker you had to go and make fun of me because I spelled a word wrong because I was in a hurry.

Now, we can either drop this and be friends or never talk to eachother. OR, I will embaress you through these boards, the [adult swim] boards, which I am a part of, I can figure out if you have a myspace, or whatever.

So I say we drop it. You?

You've done a pretty good job of embarassing yourself there, Slappy. You got upset because I pointed out a syntax error and you resort to calling me faggot and cock sucker and cunt and a host of other names? Then you say want to be friends and then threaten me? And you have the balls to threaten me beyond this environment, beyond this message board? You have no clue who your dealing with. If you attempt to make good on that threat, you will find yourself at the business end of prosecution. I may not be the Cindy Brady of this crowd, but I gaurantee you will be off this site before the sun rises on your sorry little ass tomorrow morning. Seeing as how I work for the company that owns and runs the adult swim boards, don't be suprised if you find yourself removed from there as well. I'm more than twice your age- I have not the pride of a (barely) 14 year-old. So I really don't give a fuck what you think you can do to embarass me. You need to get over yourself, newbie. You're not the big man you think you are. To me, you're just another peice of newbie trash that can't take a little ribbing. You failed the test and now it's time for you to go away.

See you in the funny papers.

As far as this movie... I'm on the fence as to whether or not I want to go see it. The last movie I went to see in the theater was... shit, I can't remember. Lately, there just hasn't been anything that jumps out and screams "Pay $10 to sit in a theater with a bunch of assholes with cellphones and whiny kids and watch me!"

Saw it last night.
Before I begin
The Trailers were cool, Superman, Xmen3, some Bruce Willis Movie. Always love a good set of trailers.

The movie, Portman was great. Just great.
Weaving took some getting used to. Kept hearing "Agent Smith" in his voice.
The Mask really grows on you, it really does.
Supporting characters were top notch.

Effects were, great. Looked real. Got nothing more to say other than "Neato"

Funny at times, subtle twists, and SPOILER Highlight to be spoiled A Benny Hill Sketch in the middle of it...I'm not kidding

Worth a watch. Not "Best Movie of the Year" but "Hey that was a pretty good movie, might rent it when it comes out"

Just got back from seeing it.

I liked it. I love the graphic and understand why Alan Moore wanted his name pulled from it. The changed some stuff to be more politically correct which I find interesting as to what they changed.

They did cut one thing that I think they should have left in. This ruins nothing I promise. It just clarifies something they did leave in. The government is divided into divisions called the mouth, the ears, the hands, the eyes, etc. The call the policemen working straight for the government "Finger men" but never explained why. I thought that might be useful for those who haven't read the book.

Everything about it is top-notch, except for Portman's english accent, but she still great in it. I had never read the graphic novel, so I knew nothing at all about it (I hadn't even seen the trailer). I don't see anything being better than it this year.

I agree with you...it would have been better if they had stuck to the books way of explaining what the divisons were. I also thought it strange that they tried to make Portman's character squeaky clean good girl...it took away from why these citizens would feel the desperation and fear caused by the overlords. In the book it was clear that she was desperate to do anything because her government had made living normally impossible.

However, I really enjoyed the film aside from that part. I wondered if they were going to make the mask into a moveable object, which would have been typically stupid Hollywood stuff. Also, they didn't change his character to be 100% good guy, which I also expected.

If you really do watch that many movies at home I might recommend the unlimited 4 at a time option at netflix. For about $26 a month you can max yourself out. I did it before I got too busy at work again to have a real life. Now I am back to the two at a time option.

eh. not all are crap. and that's the problem i buy them but i don't even think i've watched half of them. every time i go to watch a movie i say 'ehh i don't want to watch any of these' and then end up watching one of my tv shows on dvd. or the discovery channel

and i'm not too keen on netflix like i stated. they're actually being sued right now for discrimination b/c if you rent a lot from them they have a program that will delay availability of new movies to you b/c you rent a lot
