I have managed to ignore this show for a season and a half. I decided to watch the episode after the Superbowl just to see if I liked it. I got hooked.
Yesterday the first season came out on DVD and netflix delievered the first disc to me. I was up until 1a watching the first three episodes. It's a great show. It's twice as good as ER ever was at it's prime.
Is anyone else watching this? Because if you're not, I suggest picking up the DVDs.

I had planned on coming in today and starting a "Can you get me a new vagina?" thread.
Isn't the first season still going on? I thought that we'd been watching it from the start...
It is definitely a can't-miss show in the Courtright house. When I first watched it, I thought that it was way too frantic. I thought I couldn't handle the pressure. But I haven't missed an episode since.
I think its sense of humor is what makes it better than ER. It doesn't take itself too seriously.

I really liked the show from the first couple episodes. I'm at the point now where I don't want to see what's happening in the show and have the earlier episodes that I missed get ruined. I already know stuff that I don't want to know yet.

First season was 10 episodes. It was a mid-season replacement I think. It's into season 2 right now.
The writing is great. I heard some of the Buffy writers are on it so that makes sense. It seems like every episode has at least one good quotable line from almost every character.
There is a writer's blog. http://www.greyswriters.com/2005/11/index.html

You guys mean the show is so aweful it's good? I can't stand that show. I'm surprised any Scrubs fan can like that show. It's laughably bad.
I still watch it every week, but I absolutely hate it.

Yea, I didn't want to jump in and go backwards, but I did so I know I want to know how everything got from the first episode to where it is now.

Yea, I didn't want to jump in and go backwards, but I did so I know I want to know how everything got from the first episode to where it is now.I wrote it off in as soon as she woke up with Patrick Dempsey in episode one. I knew he was coming back and they were going to be all Moonlighting. Dempsey is too big a name to be a red shirt away team member. Then, when Isiah Washington says, "The only one around here who makes promises is God, and I don't see him with a scapel," I laughed out fuckin' loud. The show is just good enough for people to think it's brilliant, but it's not so.
I will say that they are great at choosing the music for that show. If there's one saving grace for the show, it's that the soundtrack, week in/week out is outstanding. And with as many Garden State fans that are around here, I'm not surprised that a good soundtrack fooled people into thinking the show is good.
Oh, yeah. Smiley face emoticon.

I've never watched it so I'm bringing nothing to this thread. And I know that this question has been asked before but I haven't gotten a response that sounds right. How in the hell did Patrick Dempsey go from a 80's geek ("Can't Buy Me Love") to the late 00s dreamboat? Did he make a deal with Satan? If so, where do I sign? :D

Patrick Dempsey is a hot... hot man! I loved 'Can't Buy Me Love' as a child, but as for 'Grey's Anatomy,' I can't get into it. It isn't that the show is great, but my ADD starts going crazy when I try to watch any hour-long drama.
Similar to soaps, which is why I only watch them for about a week straight and then come back to them when I have settled down.

Dempsey was dreamy back then and he's dreamy now. I was a huge fan, but didn't following him through those crappy 90s movies that he did.
However, George is my favorite of the guys. Of course, I've only got 5 episodes under my belt so far. I may stay up and watch the rest of the season tonight.

On Sunday night's episode, I completely expected him to go Milton, "I'll set the building on fire."

I was flipping through the channels a couple Sundays ago and stopped on it to check it out. Needless to say, I have now seen the last two episodes and really like the show. My DVD player is now programmed to remind me when the show is coming on.

Yep, I like this show too.. We're still waiting for season 2 here though... or maybe we got part of it and then they stopped it? who knows. Either way it's not showing at the moment.
And "McDreamy" is certainly an accurate nickname for Patrick Dempsey. I've got no answers on how it happened, Britt, but man am I glad it did. :)

I finished season one and have watched the last 3 episodes of the current season. I don't think they can hear me when I yell at the tv. This show keeps getting better and better.

I'd lose too many friends if I posted in this thread again, so I'm just going to pretend it doesn't exist.

Speaking of losing friends, I am going to side with Robbo on this one. Gray's Anatomy is my boyfriends favorite show, so I have been watching it every week for the last few months. I usually will find an excuse to do something else around the house because it gets on my nerves.
Although I LOVE Patrick Dempsey, I can barely tolerate it. It seems like one of those shows trying to force everybody to think how cool and edgy it is. All Dr. Gray does is whine about everything and walk around looking weepy and distraught and sounding perpetually congested. I have moments where I like Sandra Oh's character, because at least she doesn't feel sorry for herself 99% of the time.
Meh.

Well, I have only seen three episodes so far, but I do like it still. However, I did notice something the other night. The naration sounds like Sex in the City.

I have never watched Scrubs, ER, or any other hospital drama. I was lured into watching GA the episode after the superbowl. Even after they pulled the move that usually makes me spurn TV drama's, the week long 'cliffhanger' to make you watch the next week. I can say that I enjoyed the last 3 episodes, especially in HD. I will tune in again this week.
When they reach the point where someone in the usual cast has a brain tumor (a la the mad drama on daytime TV) I will write it off. Then I will happily be able to turn the station to my usual favorite TV pastime 'The History Channel'. Until then I am hooked, the music is great, I would agree that it is not genius but it is fun to watch.

Same here, Sheriff. The wife, son, his bass player and a "roadie", all watched the episode after ther Super Bowl. The next week we were all there for "part two". Great stuff. Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't state that Christina Ricci kept me very "entertained".

We all just had to know what a 'Code Black' was. Great way to hook people.
Last night's episode tried way to hard to be philosophical. I pretty much tuned out all mention of the word karma. Meredith's crying scene was hilarious...probably not the writers intention...

I knew what a code black was which is why I tuned in.
Last night wasn't great, but I'm glad that George will definately stop pining over Meredith now.
I laughed too.

Don't be fooled, Zens. It's a trap to get you to watch a bad show...oh what am I saying? When it comes to women comparing asthetics versus quality, asthetics wins every time. :D

They have hit me with the double whammy of Dempsey and ODonell. I am powerless against such kryptonite.

Good show on Sunday night. It did my heart good to hear somebody finally tell off that whiny Gray.
So Entertainment Weekly tells me that the show will probably be moving to a new night next season, in which case i may actually get to watch it...

If I hadn't been convinced by now that they had a formula for writing their shows, last week would have been the clincher. It was very by-the-numbers, even for them.

My friend (who normally only watches House) watched Gray's with me the last two weeks. It's funny how she was like "What's the conflict? Why don't they just do the procedure whether they want to or not?" - The sign of a true House fan. Cracked me up.
