I want to rent some movies from the library for this weekend and you ahve to requisition them on line and it takes several days.

Can any of you think or a sweet movie that passed under the radar that might be interesting? I have to rent a bunch of foreign films for a film class too, so something good would be nice to finish up the weekend with.

Sweet? I can't think of any sweet movies that passed under the radar . . . sweet movies always seem to do well, and I usually don't see them (though I do love the occasional sweet movie). How 'bout Jersey Girl . . . haha.

If you want something sweet AND foreign, there's a pretty well-done French flick called Jeaux d'Enfants, called Love Me If You Dare in America, that came out last year. I don't know if it passed under the radar or not, but it's certainly sweet and entertaining.

If you just want foreign, here are my favorite foreign films: (just a warning, they're all old . . .)

Kurosawa's Ikiru
Clouzot's Wages of Fear
Dassin's Rififi
Melville's Le Samourai
Fellini's Nights of Cabiria
Renoir's Rules of the Game
and Lang's M

I've seen all of those save Rififi, but I'm looking for something American to cap off a weekend full of foreign films from the thirties.

hmmmm . . . . . . . . . . . that is a tough question. I can't remember the last time I saw a good American movie that was also sweet. There are lots of bad American movies that were also sweet.

Actually the last American movie I saw that was really good and sweet was the 40 Year Old Virgin, but I assume you've seen that.

No, and I don't plan on it.

How, exaclty have there been sweet bad movies?

I don't mean sweet in terms of, "Oh, how sweet, a puppy wearing bunny ears" I mean "That movie is friggen sweet."

Try to get Straw Dogs if they have it. That would be a perfect ender to a foreign film marathon.

1. It's a classic movie with a lot of subtext, and stars Dustin Hoffman. It has enough depth that it will hold up against the foreign greats.

2. It's about how far an American can be pushed before he starts blowing up people with funny accents.

See where I'm going?

I second the Straw Dogs idea, and you should also check out Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia. It's about how far a man can be pushed before he starts blowing the heads off . . . everyone.

And then he should re-watch Taxi Driver because there is pushing and heads being blown off, and all that.

The other two aren't available, and I've never seen Taxi Driver, so I reserved that.

Warning, this movie may cause you to attempt to kill President Reagan in an effort to win the affection of Jody Foster.

They really need to put that warning on the box.

And watching Cave Dwellers starring Lisa Foster may make you want to kill Donald Reagan . . .

MST3K, anyone?

If you are into the Vampire Movies/B Movies/French Movies, then Redemption's "The Vampire Collection" is a trio of movies you need to check out. They are by Frenchman Jean Rollin and include the movies...."The Rape of the Vampire", "The Shiver of the Vampires", and "Requiem for a Vampire". "Requiem for a Vampire" has also been known as "Caged Virgins" and "Virgins and Vampires". They do include subtitles for the non-French speaking folk.
