View Full Version : Favorite Movies?
So this is a kind of obvious topic, but what's your favorite movie and why?
Mine is Kurosawa's Ikiru. It's about an old bureaucrat who knows he's only got six months to live, and he tries to make the best of them - live the life that he's been neglecting for the past thirty years of governmental service. At first he tries excessive drinking, then a strange relationship with a young woman, but he finally finds something to make his life complete (don't want to ruin it fo rthose of you who haven't seen it).
The film not only shows the different ways a man's life can be interpreted by the people who know him (or think they do), it also questions man's own interpretation of his life, what is important, and what makes a life worthwhile. The final scene with the old man singing on a swing is probably the most beautiful shot in the history of film.
Then again, I am pretty young and have a lot of movies to watch in the next few decades. How 'bout you guys/girls?

alright, but why would I want to post on threads that are 8 months old . . . There's no harm in having another conversation. I'm sure I'm not the only person to join in the last year . . . and I'm sure more than one person's opinion has changed . . . besides, even that thread admits that it's the 100000th time the question has been asked. Here's 100001.

All those threads are still active.
Like I was saying before buddy, if you search the topic you want to post out. You WILL almost always find it. Then all you do is post in THAT thread.
You can read all about out stuff, then post yours in the same thread.
Yeah, it is all fine because you were not HERE for the first 1,000 favorite movie threads. If you stick around you will see why we ask people to just do a search, first.
That is what that feature is for.

Anyway I'll play again.
A few of many:
Star Wars...any and all
LOTR trilogy
Harry Potter 1-4
Personal Fav's
10 things I hate about you ( sad I know)
When Harry met Sally
Good Morning Vietnam
Saving Private Ryan
Forrest Gump
Platoon
Cadence
Its ok, I like 10 Things I Hate About You too. Don't know if it's on my personal favorites, but that and Clueless have always been guilty pleasures of mine.
Thanks for playing. Sorry I look like an idiot.

Fuck it, I'll play. But, I got a few.
Monty Python and The Holy Grail
This Is Spinal Tap
Brian's Song
Stand By Me
North Dallas Forty
Camelot
Tell me I ain't fucked up.
Freakin' Vanessa Redgrave was hot back in the day. Could have been some really nice "happy everaftering" there in Camelot. Richard Harris, awesome. I mention this one 'cause I know very few of you have seen it. The others are "standards".
I'm not like some of you that "dissect" a movie, for this reason, or that. I don't have any problem suspending reality at a drop of a dime. All I need is for the movie to give my heart, or funny bone a tug, and I'm in. Plots holes? I ain't looking for 'em. But, I do respect those of you that are trying to get into the business. You have to take a closer look at films. And I do like hearing some of what ya'll have to say about the in-depth part of movies.
But, mostly for me, I wonder about the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.
Does anybody smell elderberries?

My holy trinity of comedy is: The Big Lebowski, This Is Spinal Tap, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Then of course there's the Star Wars saga (Sith went a long way towards softening my opinion of the first two).
Honourable mentions go to:
Swingers, Adaptation, The Third Man, any of John Carpenter's work before he went to the bad place, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Goonies, Back To The Future trilogy, Batman Begins, Lord of The Rings trilogy, Tadpole, Jaws......
I could go on forever, but that's a small selection
.....Oh, oh, I forgot to mention The Coen Brothers, they can do no wrong (although I haven't seen The Ladykillers. I'm afraid to tarnish my love for them.)

I like that movie with that guy in and all those other guys and it's over the top action like watching a cartoon. But Kung Fu Hustle isn't my favourite.
Probably Battle Royale, The SW saga. Trainspotting, Pulp Fiction, Godfather II, León and just too many to list being truthful.
Last years suprise for me came in the form of sky high which I though was going to be complete crap.
