So far I haven't seen anyone even reference this story aside from Slashdot.org. Thought it was worth sharing and keeping an eye on this story.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was true. A very close friend of mine has AIDS and cannot afford the cocktail of drugs. Even with insurance it costs around $1200/month. Therefore he, like many others I know, have resigned themselves to a slow death because the cost is just too much for a drug that makes you sick and has horrid complications of its own.

It would be nice to be able to tell him to take me off as his beneficiary, because he might just live longer and find someone special that deserves that more than I. Lately it seems like we all sit around and help him plan his last years. :(

His partner of 10 years cheated on him, unknowingly infected him, and when he found out my friend was sick...dumped him, took his car, his house, and about every shred of happiness with him. If I ever think my breakup was bad I remind myself that at least he didn't give me a death sentence.

I can only assume that Magic Johnson's blood is somehow involved in this cure.

But Pat Robertson is a raving fuckin' lunatic. Good gawd, gays treat their partners as bad as straights. I'm very sorry about this, Zens. And please, Matthew don't even. We've got a pair of same-sex fellas on my wife's side. They are the nicest guys you could ever meet. My daughter's awareness of the gay marriage problems has been magnified. I don't know where I stand on getting government "benefits", where this is concerned. But I'll be damned if I piss on other people's lifestyle.

One of our really good friends has a gay step-brother. His parents don't know...in spite of the fact that he's been living with a "friend" for probably a decade. Kind of sad that they have to pretend...

Even if this is a cure for AIDS, Americans will not be able to legally buy it for about a decade.

Hey, don't forget. My ex-husbands uncle was Pat Robertsons attorney for most of his career. Think of those dinner table conversations.

You are absolutely right. Just the approval process with the FDA takes 5-6 years, and that's after they are SURE the drug works.

Not to go on my usual tirade on this subject, but....FUCK MAGIC JOHNSON! That sanctimonious windbag tells the public that he has not yet died, because GOD wants him to live, he is GOD's chosen. So he wants us to believe that he is more important in GOD's eyes than
these people (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famous_AIDS_cases). I had a half brother who died of HIV related pneumonia. He was just someone who did not know about AIDS at a time that no one knew about AIDS. God knows that Reagan wasn't gonna mention some Gay Plague at least not till TEN years after the disease was identified and the method of transmission was known.

Magic Johnson is just a lucky rich man who was diagnosed after AZT and the cocktail was invented. He didn't get the disease a la Ryan White who got tainted blood, no, he slept around on his wife. Jerk.

Daff, I hate to, but I disagree with your assertion that Johnson is anything more than a windbag, or a god's chosen, or any of that shit. Any chance that he saved a life? What he has done, has raised some awareness of the situation. I think the media might have made it more than what he wanted. Maybe not......

Again, this subject is volatile, but how much good can be done by a "wrong"?

Is it wrong of me to think he never had it? That he got a false positive and once he announced it and saw all the publicity when he was told he didn't he just decided to run with it. Is that too cynical of me?

Is that too cynical of me?In this day and age, nothing "celebs" do is beyond reproach. But, when you're in that much of the public eye, I tend to think you better get the story straight, from the get go. Crying wolf can get your ass in a sling quick.

That would be like pretending to have cancer to get a free toupe.

(Sorry, but that Seinfeld episode was on last night.)

They COULD Fast Track it but even then it would be a couple of years.

In high school my Biology teacher would invite guest speakers during Homecoming week. The topics were always STD related. One speaker talked to us about AIDS and at the end of the presentation, he told us how he contracted HIV (intravenous drug use if you are wondering). During the Q&A, someone asked why Magic Johnson seemed so healthy. He told us his personal opinion was that Johnson was not HIV positive.

I've seen Johnson in person numerous of times and he looks sooo healthy that it doesn't look like he is suffering from anything, so I agree with Fanny.

In case you are wondering how I've met him, he two Starbucks and a Washington Mutal in Rialto. He makes bank...

Not to beat a dead horse, but that was not my assertion, that was his quote. Not that the media can't twist words, however, it is hard to twist the words I have been chosen by God to continue my works.
I'm just sayin.....other good people who got HIV died. To attest that God chose you to open movie theaters is an insult to all who died before they got to do the great work they were capable of.

Yes, you were right that anything that causes awareness is a good thing. I will agree with you on that. Good things can be done by a wrong. But Bullshit is still Bullslhit!

By the way Actualsize-Thanks for the answer to the question "Why does it hurt when I Pee?" Love the Zappa.

I think that some celebs feel they are the "chosen" just by all the smoke that's been blown up their asses. Especially, the athlete variety. They've been told they were "special" all their lives(in ways they are), but they get blinded by that adoration. Worldwide "limelight' skews the shit out of most's self-worth. Sorry, if I got your daffy, uhh.., dander up.
