I have just started getting into this game over the past few months, and have yet to find a good solid strategy... and that bites me in the ass everytime, damnit. Anybody else getting really into this game?!

When I lived in Texas, "Hold 'em" had nothing to do with cards...;)

I play in a weekly game with friends. My strategy came from watching Celebrity Poker on Bravo. Phil Gordon does a good job of telling you basic tells, odds and betting strategies.

As much as I hate getting into something that is obviously a fad and probably addictive and destructive for some people it's pretty damn fun.

On a side note I would totally advise anyone against playing for money online. The prevalence of bots that people use to basically cheat is widespread so that you won't even be playing against a person but a computer program that will beat you the majority of the time. Online poker is for suckers and scammers.

I play on PokerStars.com. No real money involved. I got an O/C problem. Have played 12 hours straight on that site a few times. At work 3,4, or 5 of us play at 10, lunch and 3. Again, no money involved, but I love to play the game. Lot of bluffing goin' on. But, I very seldom bluff(dumb), and if I bet big most of the guys fold. On the internet site it's different. Nobody knows your tendencies, and you can get away with dumb play sometimes. If you haven't played, please try it. It's got some good strategery ;) involved. The shit on the TV kinda turns some people off of the game, just because it's getting so commercial. All in!!

We usually have a hold 'em get together once a month. I like to think that we started before it became a fad, but probably not.

I just started playing online in the last week or so...I really want to play for money, but it seems best not to. Maybe some day.

And it is for this reason we ladies love our Texan men. ;)

You can play for really small stakes, if inclined. I just don't trust myself to not over-do it. That's what I'm worried about. When we have our gatherings, the wife is sitting across the table from me making sure that I stop at $20. If I'm playing online, she's probably asleep. No one there to make me not try to be a hero.
