..if you're slave to the grind.

Alright, I'm devoting this here thread to all work-related tidbits. New job opps, just quit, boss made ya scrub the toilet, wanna do the horizontal bop with another employee, etc, etc. Anything good, bad, or ugly about your work.

Tell us how bad work sucks, or you just got a raise. Anything goes.

C'mon over here, and tell By-tor all about it. ;)

Well I'm currently at work. I hate working weekends. Weekends should be for sleeping in, watching movies and generally bumming around. On a bright side, I'm technically not employed in my normal position when I work weekends which means I don't have to do my normal work, I can sit here and play on the internet or watch a dvd on the laptop. As long as the phones and radios are answered it's all cool.

I applied for a position after my co-worker told me about it. He is applying for it as well, but I've always wanted to be a reporter since I can remember and I have more experience than him and I am SO tired of writing obits. I know it is my job, but how much more can I take? I want to do something else and I want to be move involved in the community that I live in. And this guy annoys me, so, I feel a little guilty, but not that guilty.

And I am watching Buffy Season 7 and everyone is making with the sex. Lucky.

Where do I start? I accepted a job offer from a new employer on Monday. I resigned my current job on Tuesday, in a face-to-face meeting with my boss, which I followed with a .pdf copy of my formal resignation letter. It all went very well, with my co-workers generally agreeing that the new job sounds tailor made for me, and jealous that I had finally reached "escape velocity." I expected to get shown the door within the hour, as I work in an industry where secrecy is important.

But HR is in Michigan, and my office is in California. Just TODAY, at 4:30pm Michigan time, someone in HR finally pulled their head out and returned one of my many calls. It seems the HR "manager" never opened the e-mail forwarded by my boss containing my resignation letter. Can you believe that? As soon as I repeated the story, and the HR manager found the unread e-mail in his inbox as we talked, he told me he wanted me to pack up immediately. I go in Monday and turn in my badge, laptop, :-( and car keys, give them an exit interview, and get shown the door. But I still get paid through the 14th of February.

I have until the 21st before my new, most excellent job starts!

Teach one person you know, then tell them to teach one person they know, and so forth. I'm sure it will get over to me eventually and at least ONE person that comes to my window will have a preprinted deposit slip completely filled out.

Working as Tech support for the Horticulture and Crop Science Department at The Ohio State University is sweet. I get to make my own hours, make 9 bucks an hour (hey, I'm in college, not bad if you ask me), and get to fuck with computers all day long, though not literally, because that'd be strange.

I can bitch about my last job right? Okay... Well i use to work in the fast food industry (thats all i'll say). Now as most of you probably know when you start a job, your new boss may have you sign a little slip of paper that says you will pretty much allow them to take money off of your paycheque if something goes wrong with the money on your shift, in the till, a drop, etc. Well when i started said job, by boss didn't have me sign any slip of paper indicating that. Well i worked there for a year or so, the whole time my boss is a complete idiot and the manager isn't that far behind (i got along really well with the rest of the staff if you wondering why i put up with their BS for so long), anyways... i was the shift supervisor and one of my coworkers at the time did a 200$ drop, well that went missing. NOW... my boss had me come in between 6-7am for two weeks... and i work over 9 hours shifts probably 6 days a week. Well when i got my paycheque for that particular schedual... he had written in pen "Minus 200$." You can use your imagination for my mood and the words said when i read that. I was so mad, i cried and walked out of the store. Well it ended up being a huge fight, i called the labour board and they didn't do shit except tell me it was illegal and if it happens again to file a complaint. Well i called and told him i wasn't working until i got my money, so he said 'fine' and for me to come in for my next shift, which was the next morning and things would be settled. Well, i arrive to open the store... and the prick refuses to give me the 200$ back. NOW IM PISSED. I storm out of the store and call my mother (she talks me through this shit), i vented on my cell phone from my car in the parking lot. She proceeds to call my boss to see if maybe he will listen to her. They talk on the phone for a while and they yell... my boss hangs up the phone on her, goes into the office... gets 200$ in cash, comes out and throws all these 20's at me and yells "AND TELL YOUR MOTHER TO STOP YELLING AT ME ON THE PHONE" and actually stomps his foot (no joke, lmfao). So that was solved. Then a couple months go by... and the boss decides he is going to take 20$ off another one of my paycheques, im not pleased once again. He was pretty much accusing me of stealing from him, when i was the most loyal fucking person working in that stupid store, thats what really got me the most. Well this time, my mother happened to be dropping something off for me and i mention the money he took off to her, and he all of sudden walks in the store. Well we start bickering, my mom said, and i quote "You listen to me you fuckin' idiot..." it was awesome. I got to put my two cents in, and ended it like this "Open the till and give me the 20$ that you stole off of my paycheque, i no longer work in this store or for you," got my 20$ and left. Done and Done.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I only have eleven days left working overnights before moving on to a new job in a new department. Nor can I confirm or deny that I will be promoted, not as a part of any move I may or may not make, but possibly or possibly not as a result of my hard work and dedication to the department I may or may not be leaving.

I keep working shitty late shifts ,where its super slow and I have to basically clean up or take care of problems/messes people made at the start of the day. Since I work on commisson and its slow that means I work later and am getting less than the people around me.
Also my boss who is "supposed" work atleast 1 closing shift and 1 sunday decieded that closing Sunday counts for both, which it doesnt because on Sunday we close at 7 and everyone else ends there shift at 6. I want to see her standing around on a Tuesday at 9pm after only have made 20 dollars in sales over the last 10 hours like I did the last two tuesdays.
Also I work with dogs, I dont even like dogs.

ANd I work today and I just cant find the energy to give a shit

I'm gonna go take a nap before the game.If there is one thing I understand it's how much of a game all business is, big and small. Big business just has a different set of rules. More people should take the time to figure out which game is more preferable to them. Instead they spend years frustrated and unhappy.

I have often wondered why some people believe they can play a game, and win, when they don't learn the rules. That being said, being an asshole boss is not part of the rules. That type of behavior will only get short-term results, and it catches up with them. I just saw this happen last week.

I have a good relationship with my employees. Many I have a great relationship with. I will admit that I can be difficult to work for however. I exepct a lot of autonomy and personal accountability. My theory is hire good people and then get the hell out of their way. I am not much of a hand holder...and this can be especially difficult for people who confuse the line between business and personal life.

The higher you go the more the pleasantries fall away, but without this sucess would be harder to obtain. I sat in a meeting last week where the president told one of the chief officers sitting next to me that he "failed, failed, failed". Had he? Yes. Was it uncomfortable to be told that bluntly? Heck yeah. The perception that "the man" is always against you is erroneous though. It takes a very special individual to handle the pressure of running a multi-billion dollar company. If the man wasn't tough, aggressive, talented, intelligent, and directed then the company falls apart.

If the man wasn't tough, aggressive, talented, intelligent, and directed then the company falls apart.Again agree. To a certain point. I didn't mean to say that all bosses a.k.a. "the man" are "against" you. I'm just the kind of manager that feels you can get more out of your people if you don't berate, or belittle their work. I do believe guidance is always a part of the owner/management position. But, yet again, as you said the rules of the "game" are completely different depending on the size of the company.

We are thinking along the same lines. Bad bosses are bad no matter how big or small the company is. I also have had to learn the difference between someone speaking the unvarnished truth about a situation, and just being belittling.

We all want to believe that our decisions are the best and we know the one right way to do something. When people correct that assumption it's easy to blame them instead of admitting we may not be right 100% of the time. My skin is a lot thicker than it used to be. At the same point, I am much more honest about my own limitations and what I am good at. The ramifications of bad decisions at a certain level require instant correction. One mistake in the wording of a contract can cause 150 people in Barcelona to lose their job. I hope there is a person in front of me that would call out my mistake fast.

I think it's safe now for me to confirm what I may or may not have mentioned- Besides, I figure some good news is needed around here anyway, albeit inconsequential to the State of the Poop-

I was chosen to be a part of a very small team to launch and maintain Turner Entertainment's shiney new video on demand service. I don't suppose if I offered to pay out of my pocket for Ryall to get any or all of the Family Guy episodes he could ever possibly want, he'd consider sticking around...;)

As for By-tor's post: I got a phone call last night that may have me one step closer to the job that I've been trying to get since July. This is the training area that was eventually built out to house the NBA network. Since these were taken, an additional set of screen were mounted above the ones in the picture. It will literally give you a migraine to watch all 20 individual monitors for more than four hours at a time. TBS, TNT, CTN, and TCM all have fewer screen to watch, but it can be hard on the eyes after a while.

I'm suprised at how hard it is to find a picture of the BOC pods- they used to be all over the place in trade magazines and what not.
