As I sit here, alone, at 5:45am, ripping all my CD's onto a hard drive, I reflect upon each album- when I bought it, which songs I actually listened to- I must say- I own a lot of crap. Some of these discs I can't remember at all why I bought them. Like this band called Cathedral... I listened to a couple of the cuts and not one of them sounds familiar. Garth Brooks No Fences... What the hell was I thinking?! Oh yeah... my class song was Friends in Low Places... I'm so ashamed at times... Carcass? Doesn't ring any bells. And then there are some forgotten gems... firehose: mr. machinery operator, damn cool riffs. Faith No More: Angel Dust, a personal favorite that somehow wound up in a box in the top of a closet.

So far, I've ripped 72 discs... I only have... 673 to go.

Guess I'll finish later.

Cathedral's "Midnight Mountain" from Ethereal Mirror is one of my favorite. It is a disco/funk/death metal song. You HAVE to love it. :)

Also, Carcass' Heartwork CD has some amazing guitar work. I listen to it whenever I want to relax.

That reminds me of a story that happened a few years ago....

My friend had a friend named Elizabeth. She left his place one night to go meet other friends and never showed up. After a couple of days they started calling hospitals and found her in a coma. She had been in a car accident and hit her head hard on the steering column.

So she comes out of her coma after about a week with her memory mostly intact of everything like walking, talking, and all that kind of stuff. It seems the only part that was damaged was that she had no memory of her favorite things. If you asked her what she liked, favorite color, food, music - she hadn't the faintest idea.

So she went home and sat there and listened to all her CDs to see what she liked and ended up getting rid of most of them because they didn't mean anything to her anymore. She started listening to all kinds of different music to see what she liked. She hasn't been the same since and a lot of her tastes have changed not to mention she has become a lot more flighty and less dependable.

Anyway could you imagine coming home and seeing your CD collection and not even knowing what your favorite songs or bands were? I'm glad I have an IPod and playlists so if that ever did happen I'd know where to start.

I once came home and wondered "what the hell was I doing with that girl?"

Does that count?

I've always been veeeerrrrryyyy discriminating when buying CD's. In my life, I've probably bought 10 CD's that I have regretted.

In the last six years, I've bought maybe a dozen CD's. All this other stuff is from back in the day, when I was in the service and had a lot of money to burn. Most of these CD's are going to wind up as coasters.

We were playing "Secret Shame" CD's at work and I found I had a really hard time thinking of music that I own of which I am ashamed. Sure I have owned alot of stuff that is cheezy and not exactly changing the face of music, but hell, I am cheezy! It is one of my charms. I think I lied and said "Feel the Shake" by Jetboy. However, that was a gift from a friend that signified the worst concert we ever saw, so to say I am ashamed of having it on my shelf is a disservice. Still haven't thougt of one to be truthful.
