The guy who pulled this (http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/) off is a genius.

That was the coolest prank ever. Score one for the good guys.
I wonder what happened to Jeff though.

I sure wish I had heard of this prank when I was scammed like 4 times in a row with my eBay auctions for my laptop. It was so aggrivating, I would have loved to fuck those bastards over.

That is just awesome. I must admit, I have often been leery of ebay for this reason. I got my first iPod off of ebay, and the battery was crap.
Then my boss got me my second one, so I just gave the old one to a friend.
Note, my boss got this ipod back when they were dinosaurs...not to be confused with Kathy's rockin' boss who got her a Video Pod. Sigh. :)
You're lucky, at least your boss knows what an ipod is.

I wonder what happened to the Jeff guy? It says he was never heard from again even after personal e-mails. That's kind of freaky.

Yeah, that last bit put a wee bit of a dampner on the whole story for me. The whole time I was giggling away, and then BAM! Now I can't shake the feeling that he is tied to a bed in some dingey room in the middle of nowhere, the perfect spot for Gianluca to administer his vengeance of choice: The Chinese Death of 1,000 Cuts...:(

Wow. Don't know how I missed this the first time around. This kind of reverse scamming became quite a hobby for some folks as evidenced by a story on This American Life and the stories on http://www.419eater.com/index.php (http://www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm). I spent a few afternoons reading through those

Two friends of mine had a anti-419 website, looks like it has been closed... "Must Destroy 419" is (was?) ace.
I'm sure they have archives of it somewhere...

It may be here. (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php)The have a blog on MySpace, Dario Twits about it... but they have "had to take it down" (never explained me why).
Can't find it on archive.org, but I love you for having reminded me of it.

See, I disagree. It might be because I'm getting old, but ED is just too damn tastless for me. I'm a fan of anything off-color and offensive, but they take it too far most of the time. And that's really saying something, coming from me.

I meant in that that is where your answer lay. Not that it was literally your friend. Jeez, what a little bitch. :p ;)

I just read through the one where the guy from Nigeria gets a tattoo on his leg to become part of the made up church to get 20,000 dollars donation to help him get to 'the holy ground'. You've gotta love when someone puts effort into making a tit out of a scammer. :D
