Just wanted to start a thread about "The Office". I know it's been mentioned on the Earl thread, but I think it deserves it's own space. Freakin' hilarious. The dead-pans at the camera are classic. I just watched a few episodes that I had Tivoed. I missed the first half of the season, for which I should be flogged. If you haven't caught a show, try it once. Carell has it goin' on this last year. If he doesn't get typecast in all his roles, he could be the "next big thing". Crap, I gotta pop in the 40 Year Old Virgin DVD I haven't gotten around to watching. Anywho, what thinks you about "The Office"?

i prefer the original.Fair enough. Apparently, there are quite a few in your camp. How many episodes of the US version have you watched? Have you given it a chance? I didn't catch on 'til just lately. I'll definitely try to check out the UK version on BBC, when it pops up. Until then Dwight rules. :)

I'm definitely in the "original version" camp, mostly because I'm a huge fan of Ricky Gervais (his new show "Extras" is amazing).
I saw the american pilot and it just made me cringe.
It was pretty much word-for-word identical to the original one, and the cast were just not as good. I really do think that if anyone watched the original, start to finish, they wouldn't bother with the new one.

yes, i gave a chance. a lot of the british to american shows i hated. the humor just isn't the same. like coupling, they ruined that one. touching evil was the only one i could tolerate. and that got canceled.

THE AMERICAN OFFICE RULES!!! (no i havent seen the uk version) steve carrell is awesome. i just bought the season 1 dvd and its great and havent missed an episode of the second season. the show is awesome.
by the way has anybody heard anything about steve carrell's new movie "little miss sunshine" i read the review from the sundance film festival. but wondering if any of you movie insiders know when exactly its coming to theatre.
Well, we had another winner last night. I missed the very end of it, but Michaels 'presentation' was great. A Michael Scott Joint, HA!! Poor Pam, all she really wanted was a valentine card from Jim, but didn't get it. Dwight continues to have the weirdest relationship ever (i missed what he got that blonde, if anything, what was it?) Other bits i loved (Naked Drunk lady passed out at her desk. blackheaded intern guy trying to avoid the talkative Indian chick. and the Bobblehead.

Hey, I asked Ming to move this thread over to the "Television" forum. I posted it with the same heading. But, damn Dave, that might have been the best episode I've seen. Pam watching all the Valentines gifts coming in was pricless. I still think some of the best parts of the show are when the actors look at the camera when something crazy goes down.
Yeah, i figured by bumping it up to the front here, i'd be easier for him to find. I too love the looks the cast give the camera. so how 'bout answering my question up there. Did Dwight ever get Blondie a V'day Gift?
Oh, and i forgot about Michael getting a "NY Slice", classic.

To our British poopers, I understand why y'all like yours the best, but there are little American things in ours that make it funny to us. Michael Scott is my old boss in a nutshell.
Pam dropping Phyllis' candy on her desk was priceless.
Dwight gave her a key to his crib.
What was Angela's reaction to that?!?!

A WTF? look when she saw a key, that turned into a sly grin.
Oh yeah...Dwight and Angela are on like Donkey Kong.
Well she is in the "most healthy relationship of her life". I can only imagine what kind of fucked up shit relationships she's been a part of.
Also i think Jim is going to regret inviting Chatty Cathy over for his poker party...

I know. It's really kind of creepy watching their courtship ritual.
I know Jim is going to regret it. Hell, he regretted the moment the invite flew out of his cake hole.

That's understandable, but still...if you haven't watched the original I strongly urge that you do. The "looks to camera" and akward scenarios etc., are just to die for. And I'm sorry, but Steve Carell is not even in the same league as Ricky Gervais. I mean, Ricky wrote it as well as starred in it, and he is infinitely funnier and more subtle than Steve.
Please, please, PLEEEEEASE people, watch the original if you love the other one so much. You won't regret it!

Btw, I know you weren't specifically referring to me, but I gotta state that I ain't brittish. My celtic heritage just won't let me associate with Limeys.;)

Reading the entire thread would be a hassle, so I'm just gonna start here.
You should really make an effort to see all the British shows. And for God's sake, watch it in order, man. Unlike an American season, which has 22 episodes, the Brits get like 6-9 episodes a season (with Coupling and Office, anyway), so the order in which you watch it matters. And believe me, the British office has the bets ending to any sitcom ever. And yes, I'm including the end of Arrested Development.
So while I prefer the British version, the American one has surprised me. I still prefer Tim to Jim, David to Michael, Gareth to Dwight, Keith to Kevin, and Dawn to Pam, but the American one makes me laugh on a regular basis, which is all I ask.

To anyone who is a fan of the original as well as the NBC version, this (http://www.rickygervais.com/nbcoffice.php) may be of interest.
I sort of think it would be cool to have a sort of bizarro cross-over between the two shows, where ricky and Steve meet up at some convention or something.

I've managed to never see an episode of the Office - either of them. So the other night I turn it on and I see the guy playing Dwight. I about leaped off my couch. He directed the New Bozena. I met and talked to him about 6 years ago.
New Bozena was a play that featured 3 insanely funny clowns. He and the three clowns studied with Gates McFadden at a clown school of sorts. Yes, Gates McFadden from Star Trek. She's a classically trained clown and dancer. The pic I have from that night has just the clowns. The director didn't want to be in the pic. Dammit. If I had only known then.
I've was happy he was in Galaxy Quest and Almost Famous. I never knew he was in this series.
Baah, i missed it again!!!!! dammit.

I heart the Office. Jim and Pam, Yea!!!!!!
Jim is going to get his ass beat down by the finacee, i have a feeling.
I think Jim is too witty to get his ass kicked. He'll figure a way to distract the fiance.
I love the episode (was it last week?) where they went through the complaint box and Micheal read off a bunch of complaints from Dwight about Jim. Just picturing the stuff made me crack up. I was laughing so hard I think I may have missed some of them.
It doesn't matter how witty Jim is, Roy is going to be one steaming ball of rage. (even though, i'm pretty sure he's cheating on Pam - hence the early leave). Jim's going to have his teeth knocked out.
Also great in this episode:
the Dwight/Angela kiss-slap-smile.
The drink order for what's-his-names "girlfriend" (why i can't remember all these characters names, i don't know) the 7 and 7 with 8 cherries, blended. And her love of Kobe Bryant.

What? Go Cards!!!! Whoooo.
Let me say that i don't like this seperation between Jim and Pam at all. I want them to be together, and right now, i feel like the show is about to fall into the "Friends Ross/Rachael Trap" where they both know they want each other, but can't both get single at the same time.
I don't like the ex-finance skulking around, trying to win her back. I have less of a problem with Rashada Jones, mostly because i'm a pig and am Okay with double standards, but fear that that relationship will end up putting Jim and Pam back to the status quo they were at when the show started, and that's no good.
Poor Michael, he just can't seem to keep from screwing up a good thing, can he?

It's a Xerox of the english show, with an inferior cast (with the exception of Carell).
Any time I have watched it I have failed to see any merit in it.
I feel it dilutes the original's tone in favour of a far broader one, which I just don't find funny.

When I watched the first few eps of the US version I agreed with you. They did the same scenes verbatim with a different cast and it just blew big fat chunks. But I think it came into it's own after that and I really enjoyed the episodes that were intermittently shown on tv here (I think we got to about half way through Season 2). Steve Carell took his character in a whole different direction and Jim and Pam are even more awesome in the US version in my opinion!

Pam is coming off a 10+ Year Relationship. She has been dating Roy since she was in High School, she has never had to even think about dating or loving anyone else. Then Jim comes around, she didnt know that she loved him, or she wouldnt let herself
Then Jim goes, hey I love you, your getting married in a few weeks, she says no, pretty much because she doesnt know what to say. Then Jim comes in and kisses her. She is still freaking out. Jim should have given her some time.
Jim goes off to Stamford, she breaks off the Wedding. She goes months without Jim. She and Jim start talking on the phone after months of not talking. Then she finds out Jim is coming back. He comes back, acts coldly towards her, doesnt tell her he might be seeing Karen untill after the fact.
Now Pam is in a situation where she has to do something she isnt used to, she has to take some risks shake some things up.
She isnt the kind of person to break up Jim and Karens relationship just so she can have Jim. But that doesnt mean she cant be friends with Jim and Karen. I think she is just scared. Its a character flaw, but hey shes human.
I cant wait for the new episodes

No, in America we have 20-22 epsiodes a Season.
It they did go Winter Break or Christmas break as some call it.
But they are showing new eps now.
SPOILERS
The last epsiode dealt with Michael coming back, Jim and Karen had a fight, Pam helped Jim with his Karen problems and then had a break down. And a Photo of Michael and Jan in Jamica is sent around the office.
Next weeks episode should be pretty good and progress the plot of the season
Also great office websites
officetally.com
givememyremote.com
Also most of the cast of the office has a myspace, the main myspacer is Pam/Jenna Fischer (Her husband James Gunn or Slither fame also has one)

When has the amount of money a show has made ever been an accurate representation of it's quality? According to that logic American Idol is better than almost every show currently airing.
And as for better actors, all I can do is laugh! Apart from Carel, they are as average a cast as I've seen in a while, and that Dwight guy...don't get me started.
The fact is, the american version is merely a facsimile, and if it is so much better and has such talented writers who have brought it so much further, then why didn't they put all that effort and talent into making something original?

As for the Office - I liked both versions. I will admit that in the beginning it was a bit annoying to watch an exact replica for the UK version. Now it bothers me much less. I have that issue sitting in my bathroom. I have yet to read it, but I love Rashida. She was engaged to an actor.... and I can't remember his name, but they were a cute couple who recently broke up.

Ok, back to what I was going to say, last night's episode was fantastic. I think I laughed the hardest (and had to put the show on pause for about five minutes after) when..... *spoiler*
Kelly was yelling at Creed (I believe) to not kill the bat because it was a living thing and can feel pain and stuff and when it was released from the open door, it comes flying at her while she screams, "Kill it! Kill it!" The reason why I felt it was the best thing out of last night's episode because I'm so guilty of that.

SPOILERS
I totally thought she was going to be the new Jan but the ex-temp is even better. I can just imagine how much everyone is going to hate having him as a boss. That episode didn't disappoint me one bit.
I can't believe Temp is getting that job. Surely he's up for some other position, right?
His breaking up with Kelly was brutal and excellent, though.
Oh, and Jim and Pam, Jim and Pam, Jim and Pam.

I think the Actress who plays karen would make an excellent Lois in another superman movies/series.
Ryan working for corporate, well I guess that might mean slightly less screentime, I guess B.J might be wanting to more behind the camera work, or other projects entirely.

That all happened in the finale. Michael asked Jan to move in with him in the car ride back from NY. Ryan got the job and dumped Kelly in the very last scene. Jim left Karen in NY and came back and took Pam to dinner. Did you not watch the finale?

I love both the UK and the US versions. I've caught everything up to now on Netflix, however I have not seen any of the past season. The last thing I saw was Jim kissing Pam in the office after the casino night party. I cant wait till they release the next part on DVD.
I've got to say I would love to see Kevin Smith do a cameo on Extras as a director!

Yes but 3 months has passed since the season 3 ended.
1stSo we didnt know for sure if Jan did indeed move in with Mike (She mentioned it)
2nd We dont know WHAT Ryan got (Rumor had it he was talking to Karen on the other line and that someone NEW was going to take Jan's place (but that had been debunked) Also we didnt know for sure that Kelly and Ryan were "over" he just said "we're over"
3rd. Jim asked Pam out, we dont know what happened with him and Karen.
I did watch the Season Finale. Thats why I am telling you should have put *Spoiler* on your of the season 4 premire because it did confirm things that hadnt been proven yet.
Its like after season 2 ended and they put a preview that said that Pam and Roys wedding was called off and Jim and Pam werent together, wouldnt that have needed a spoiler alert?

No, Ryan for sure got the position Jim, Karen and Michael were going for. Exciting news! I just finished watching the last episode of Season 3 today. Watched the whole season this weekend.
Still my favorite episode of the series is "Casino Night." I'm pretty sure a couple people can figure out why.

with all respect I still have to disagree.
Any talk of the new Season or Clips from the New Season should be tagged as Spoilers.
I point to Officetally.com for office fans, almost all of whom have seen the season finale, Tanster (site mod) still posts the video with Spoiler Alert Tag.
I think we need ground rules for spoiler alert. That will be my next thread.

I didnt say it was less than obvious.
I assumed that at the start of season 3 Jim and Pam would atleast be talking, i assumed wrong
Or how about in BSG
SPOILERS
Starbuck isnt dead? Is she? I just saw her flying, but it could be Applo having a freak out. I assume she IS alive though, but I wont post about it without a spoiler hence forth.
Also whats obvious to YOU isnt to everyone. I just thought posting images/videos from an upcoming season would give away plot points for EXAMPLE
SPOILER
They released photos of Season 4's first episode "Fun Run" and one of the shirts a character is wearing gives away a Plot point for that episode/season.

Assumptions are made on any board in any post from movies to television programing. We don't know what's going to happen in the next episode(s), we can only assume. How is that a spoiler?

News that is not spoiler related. Jenna Fisher (Pam) and her hubby, James Gunn, have separated. They made a joint statement on both their blogs and released the same statement to the press. It sucks. They were a great couple. On the otherhand, I call dibbs on James. My work computer wallpaper is a pic of Nathan and James at the Saturn awards.
You guys can fight over Jenna.

For anyone not familiar with James Gunn, I urge you to put a movie called The Specials in your Netflix queue. It's funny enough and features a nice Jenna Fischer cameo as well.
And for those who like obscure trivia, James' brother Sean Gunn (Kirk from Gilmore Girls) plays fantasy baseball with Rush lead singer Geddy Lee according to IMDB.

I cant help but wonder what happened? Was it the Jennifer Garner thing, where she was more famous than him, and his career was "slow"?
Did they just not work together?
Was she cheating on him? Him on her?

Having PB&J (Pam Beasley and Jim) together is worse than when they just wished they were together. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the awful office gossip to start causing friction and the misunderstandings and all the other conflict. Having them as a couple having problems will be twice as heartrending as having them as a potential couple with problems.
Love the show though. Anyone know if A) the Sikh IT dude is coming back? and B) If Phyllis was even in that last episode?

I really love how the minor characters are stepping it up as the show progresses - Creed has got to be one of the best characters.
I forget which episode .. but it was the one in season 3 where the workers place bets on how well they know the other co-workers or something .. I loved how they switched his apple for a potato and he keep eating it without notice :D And the Beach Games fish incident was classic, lol.
Speaking of Beach Games .. Stanley's face expression when they were sumo wrestling was hilarious! Hahahahah .. they need to play up his character more
