What a freakin' great band. Covered a few tunes from them. Saw them many times. The "butch" bass player chick did the band alright. Good-ass tunes.
Oh yeah, did I mention they are from Texas? :D

God, everytime I hear Possum Kingdom I get excited...it reminds me of college. I saw The Toadies at Summerfest in Milwaukee years back and they KICK ASS.

Keep talking like that and I will suggest "a walk with me, around the lake tonight...I'll show you my dark secret..."

Well, considering the theme of the song I would be scared.

I'm afraid I'm completely out of the loop on this one. I'd never even heard of them before this thread.:o

As the song goes on you realize how fucking creepy (but great) it really is. You should download.

Make up your mind
Decide to walk with me
Around the lake tonight
Around the lake tonight
By my side
By my side
I'm not gonna lie
I'll not be a gentleman
Behind the boathouse
I'll show you my dark secret
I'm not gonna lie
I want you for mine
My blushing bride
My lover, be my lover, yeah...
Don't be afraid
I didn't mean to scare you
So help me, Jesus
I can promise you
You'll stay as beautiful
With dark hair
And soft skin...forever
Forever
Make up your mind
Make up your mind
And I'll promise you
I will treat you well
My sweet angel
So help me, Jesus
Give it up to me
Give it up to me
Do you wanna be
My angel?
So help me!
Be my angel
Be my angel
Do you wanna die?
I promise you
I will treat you well
My sweet angel
So help me, Jesus

Covered that tune for years. Always a crowd pleaser. Girls love to dance to it.

What year? I saw them as well, I think... I might have been high... (what else is there to do in Wisconsin except eat cheese and smoke pot?)
Edit: I saw Stabbing Westward, Face to Face, Weezer, No Doubt, WAR, Veruca Salt, and that band that did that song "Guilty" all at Summerfest, as well as the Toadies... good times, good times...
Oh yeah, and Goldfinger.

Oh yeah, and Goldfinger.God, I think we must have been there the same year. It was either 2000 or 2001, because I was dating my ex-husband at the time. I also saw Stabbing Westward that year.
In 1998 I went to Horde festival at Summerfest, got split apart from my friends and ended up alone for 5 hours. God, the days before common cell phone usage. I spent that time hanging out with a very interesting group of people at the "Lenie's Lodge". It was actually kind of fun and scary all at the same time.

$5.00??? Fucking Texans.
I saw them open for the Chili Peppers...quite good, way better than the first band - Weapon of Choice (http://www.weaponofchoice.net/).

I am disappointed I can't go since it's so close and SO cheap...however, since I will be leaving Mr. JJ's sometime Mar. 11th morning on the way to Denver I am sure the subsequent hangovers will be equivilant.

I was there for the '96 and '97 shows... My God, that was almost a decade ago...
The first time I went we all got split up. So after an hour and a half of wandering around bored and alone, I took off and went home. For some reason that just chapped everyone's asses- I don't know why- I had to drive myself there to begin with. It wasn't like I left with the only car...
I think my buddy's girlfriend hated me to begin with. We all got tickets to see the Cure at the Horizon (I think that's what it was called then) later on that year and she bailed 'cause I was going to be there. It was a really good show, too. And not just because she stayed at home!

Yeah, it has been near on a decade since I saw the Toadies, too. Stupid fast moving time.
Me too. I think i've mentioned before how awesome they were (the coked up butch bass player, really grinded) as good as Possum Kingdom was, i think i like Tyler better. How come all their songs are about stalking some chick?

It was called the Rosemont Horizon, where I saw Guns n Roses on the Use Your Illusion Tour. It's now corporate owned like everything else, and called the Allstate Arena.
Were you stationed at Great Lakes back then?

No, it was after I got out of the service. My best friend in the Navy was from Twin Lakes WI. I was hating my job as a prison guard- he talked me into moving up there. Sometimes I'm glad I did it, other times (like when I think about how much time I spent in an altered state-of-mind) I wish I never went. I haven't spoken to Rob in seven years.
I saw Ministry at the Aragon Ballroom and my band played a show at the Excalibur/Dome Room- two very cool experiences.

I am pretty sure that Excalibur is still there. We used to frequent it a lot in college. I saw Pantera at the Aragon, with Rage Against the Machine opening for them. It was bad ass.

The show I saw there (Ministry) was the Loudest Fucking Show I have ever been to in my entire life. (I had to drop the f-bomb- it was Ministry, after all) My buddy lost one of his earplugs and had the eardrum blown in his left ear. Good times, good times...
