Ever since my botching of a plan to visit Red Bank last summer I have been plotting er... I mean hoping to make one this summer. However I have changed my mind and come up with a new plan. I'm coming to the one in SoCal and I'm stopping to see you along the way. I don't know where everyone lives, but I might be willing to travel all the way from Detroit to Flordia to SoCal. The only places I definitely will not be able to go are the North East and other countries (special apologies to Ozzy and I promise I'll work on getting MSN to work for me). It's a very fuzzy plan right now, but I will most likely be traveling alone and would appreciate places to bunk while I'm making my rounds across the country. Also, since the original catalyst for this trip was to go to the Secret Stash and Kev does now live in LA, maybe by your powers combined (and a little whining to Chris) I could actually meet one of my four idols if only for a handshake and a photo op. So this is my ingenious plan to spend part of my summer vacation before the big move to Southern Illinois University @ Edwardsville this fall. I figure if you won't move the MPS meetup to Peoria, then peoria will bring the MPS meetup to you. Feel free to PM me with any questions, concerns, or advice.

There's a great flattened out, smushed, dirty futon waiting for you in Columbus. If it's after June 15th, I'll have a house and you can crash on the couch.
That, and I'll let everyone know you have house beer, so you get first dibs on the keg. (After me, of course)

Well, my couch pulls out so you have you're place to stay in LA. I'm sure we can arrange a bbq with the LA poopshooters include former ones as well if timed properly.

Bytor and I both say Come to the Lonestar State! What roadtrip would be complete without it!
Yes, you really can stand in the street, say "The Stars at Night Are Big and Bright" and 9 out of 10 times people will stop and sing the finish back to you...just like Pee Wee's Big Adventure. We tested this, just the other night, out of the window of my loft.
And congrats on choosing SIU! You went the bizarro Zen version, since I am a NIU alum.

We have something very similar in Columbus. Shout out "O-H!" and at least ten people will respond "I-O!". Later in the evening, when you shout out "O-H!", people scream back "FUCK MICHIGAN!"

We have a similar effect if you shout "Hook Em' Horns" in a crowd of Aggies. "Fuckin' Teasips" will be your standard reply.

Seriously, if you don't get down this way, you be missing out on some good time. I will personally fix you up with one of those damn groupies my son seems to be bringing home every other night. The boy makes me just a tad jealous. Fuckin' musicians.

Don't ever, ever EVER throw the 'hook 'em Horns' \m/ \m/ up while driving in Italy... means something ENTIRELY different... You'll get a more... reactive... response than "Fuckin' Teasips"... much, much more reactive...

You should borrow a video camera and document your whole excursion. How fiction inspires reality that you go and track down everyone from the moviepoopshoot boards except wanting to meet us instead of kicking our asses.

Dude, you should bring a camera crew and make a documentary. Pitch the idea. It would be awesome.

Besides for not having the moolah to go transcontinental I now have another reason. Please keep the weenie pics away. I will definitely try to bring a camera and a crew, but I'm kinda short on money (as mentioned above) and friends who are willing to give up a good portion of their summer to drive around the country with me meeting people they don't know. I personally would do it in a heartbeat, but then again I'm weird. Has anyone heard from Asteban lately? I know she only lives like an hour or so away and I don't know if acid is still in Kansas City or not.
This goes out mainly to actualsize but it can apply to anyone who knows stuff about cars: what should I have done to my car before taking on such a trip? It is a '98 Honda Accord and will probably have around 145,000 miles on it by then.
Also, anyone got any ideas as far as meeting Kev? I know he's real busy on Clerks 2 right now, but there's gotta be some way to arrange something if I have a month or so of a window of oppurtunity that I'm gonna be there.

Change the oil, check the tire pressure, and tune it up. Best piece of advice I can give you. Make sure to have a AAA card handy.

I know, I know, I wasn't trying to offend anyone by it.:o
I didn't think it would be a big deal as it's hardly shown in a sexual context, and it just made me laugh when I saw it (and believe me, I've seen people in worse states on a Saturday night in Dublin;)).

It's not whether or not we are offended by it, it's whether or not our bosses would fire us over it. A lot of companies have zero tolerance policies when it comes to what their employees can look at on the computer.

Yes, it was quite funny!
I remember early on in my poopshoot career, I posted a pic of Molly Ringwald topless from "Malice". A couple people said something about it, so I reposted the pic with the nips blocked out. Then some got after me for covering up the nip, so what's a guy to do...
Link to the picture with a description of what's at the link?

Ok, so post another picture up and I'll call my boss over so he can see it and fire me. Then I can send you my monthly bill and have you pay them off for me. I don't think you would like that, now would you?
I am not being a bitch about it, I am just saying that was not appropriate to look at... especially when I have only been here for three months.

C'mon, Smurfy. He has apoligized. And said it won't happen again.
Of said pic, though, I just noticed how nicely trimmed the sac is. The guy may be a sod, but he's got some good hygiene, and obviously has the ladies best interest in mind. :D
But, Dave's right. I don't know if I'll ever order a chili dog again.

I know he said he was sorry, but it was before he told me to lighten up. Trust me, as funny as the picture is, it is not funny how much trouble I could have been in if my boss had been around. Just saying.
There have been numerous of people who have been in trouble for posting naked pictures-granted they were noobs, but still it is not nice to post due to other circumstances.

Change your oil, make sure you have good tires, if not then get some new ones. Also make sure you have a spare. Change your air filter, make sure your brake fluid is clean and topped off, same w/ power steering fluid. If you havn't had a brake job in a while, I suggest you get at least new pads before you set out.
Make sure your radio works as well. It will suck without it.

Well, it will be expensive from the gas perspective, but if you are crashing at friends places along the way it will be cheaper. Plus, bring a cooler and a loaf of bread and chips...stop at grocery stores and buy your food. It's WAY cheaper than even fast food.
Figure that this is the one of the few times in your life you can do a trip like this. When you are in college that whole summer job/internship thing will goof up the works.

New Tires would be a wise investment. Be sure you take a good flash light and keep an extra car key in your wallet or attached to underside of your bumper. You could probably benefit from a nice 500 minute or so long distance calling card too.(cost? about $20-$25.oo)
If you actually get to meet the man, he would probably get a kick out signing an autograph to one of his interviews from 2004. (I'll have to get back to you on the title of the cheap-girly magazine it was in.)

I bet even if you just had a camera and yourself you could get enough half decent footage to edit into something fun. Maybe for a JSBSB 10th anniversary dvd edition or something. I'm also guessing that if you had the footage and you got the word out there'd be a better chance of meeting Kev or someone close.
Oh yeah, you're welcome in the SLC if you end up here.

This goes out mainly to actualsize but it can apply to anyone who knows stuff about cars: what should I have done to my car before taking on such a trip? It is a '98 Honda Accord and will probably have around 145,000 miles on it by then.In no particular order...
Set tire pressures for sure, and keep a $1.98 pencil-type gage on hand. Check and air up the spare too (and make sure the jack and tools are there.) Go by the pressure indicated on the sticker on the door jamb, glove-box lid, or in the manual - NOT the pressure molded on the tire. That's a max, not the regular set-pressure.
New tires are not really necessary unless the ones you have are near the wear bars (those raised bumps that connect the main tread blocks near the bottom of the main grooves), or unless they are cupped so the whole car shakes when you drive it. Measure the depth of the tread at a main groove and get back to me. But you might want to rotate them (you can do this yourself) if the rear ones have more tread than the front.
Same goes for brake pads - if they have a reasonable amount of meat left on them, then you are fine. You might have to use the jack in the trunk to pull off one front wheel and have a look. If you can change a tire, you can inspect the pads. If you have never changed a tire, do it for practice. PM me if you need more detail on looking at pads. You won't be using them much on a cross country freeway cruise. If they look thin when you get here, I can help you change them. Replacing front pads on a Honda takes only one or two minutes longer than changing a tire - it's just one more bolt (but don't try it yourself).
Oil change is a must before you start. It's an easy DIY for $20 (5 qts oil + filter) if you have any friends who have done it before and have the tools. But even if you go to a dealer, it should only be $30~35, and they take care of the waste oil. If they try to sell you anything more, just act like you know a lot about cars and politely decline - they can smell inexperience.
Put on new wiper blades if they look brittle or rotted.
The power steering fluid is easy to check and is cheap. You probably don't need any, but it takes 10 seconds to check. Read the owner's manual - usually ATF (auto trans fluid) is what is specied.
"Tune-up" is almost an obsolete phrase these days, as there are no points or condensor to change, or timing to set. Computers do it all. Oil and filters are about it. Spark plugs MAYBE, but not likely. If it starts easily, runs smooth, and has the same power it's always had, you're probably OK.
On a modern car, especially a Honda, 145k is not that bad. You shouldn't have much to worry about. The only questions I would have are these: "Who owned the car before you, did they take care of it, and did they ever change the timing belt?"
As long as your tires are OK, then you shouldn't have to spend more than $50 to do the basics. And you only have to make it out here, 'cause I can help you sort out any nagging problems to help get you back. Most of this is stuff you should be doing ANYWAY. Checking tire tread, tire pressure, and fresh oil are critical before a longish trip.
Your biggest enemy on a long trip such as this is falling asleep. Bring plenty of tunes ('cause radio sucks in West Texas) and a case of Red Bull!
DO IT!
