You bet your happy little ass I am pleased too!
GO STROS!
If they had not have won I would have my two most hated teams playing each other in the series...and I would have been forced to cheer for the cardinals.
My dear departed father would have rolled over in his grave, got up, crawled out, smacked me upside the head, and took my baseball card collection and willed to the humane society.

I'm cheering for the not White-Sox. Them, their fans, and their commentators have been the biggest set of cry-babies for the past four years, and they've been trying to buy their way into the playoffs just as long.
Unfortunately, I think the Whine-Sox will take it in five games.

FanGirl told me something amusing last night.
Her mom, who still lives in Chicago, says that the Cubs fans are actually being nice and encouraging toward the Sox. However, a few years ago, when the Cubs were coming close the Sox fans were horrible! Hee Hee. I think there is some sort of secret plot by Cub cans that if they are super nice they can pass the curse on.
I did tell her to let her mom know there is one Texan Cub fan who will behave exactly as she expects and be really rotten. :D

As much as I don't like the ChiSox, I would rather have them win over any division rival of the Cubs. I think that is the mentality of a lot of Cubs fans. So go White Sox!

The way I see it is that if the ChiSox win then Chicago gets a much deserved baseball championship. If Houston wins then George Steinfucker gets a big "SCREW YOU!" from the baseball Gods, for having let his best lefty go for no fuckin' reason whatsoever (and in turn, had The Rocket go to Houston to finish his career with his buddy).

Don't start with the Yankees. They deserve to never win the World Series again with their payroll and lineup that seems like they're all cleanup hitters. Besides, they already get a big "SCREW YOU" every time they don't win the World Series with that roster. I guess I'm just jealous, lol.

Well, it's hard to say from my perspective how many real fans they have countrywide because Houston is only 2.5 hours from here so we are kinda surrounded by fans and relocated Houstonites. If I am correct, the guy who posted the thread lives in Houston, or somewhere near it.
I had a little kid love of the Astros because I was a HUGE Nolan Ryan fan. I still have my first ball glove, which was his model. It always seems wierd to me when I drive on Nolan Ryan Way in Arlington, because in my mind he was always an Astro and never a Ranger. But that obviously isn't correct.

Don't start with the Yankees. They deserve to never win the World Series again with their payroll and lineup that seems like they're all cleanup hitters.
Their payroll is as high as it is due a couple of factors, including the luxury tax. Their payroll will drop substantially next year because they will be losing a couple of people who were getting large sums due to their previous contracts (like Brown and Williams, who had large sums in their end-of-contract year) which ate into the payroll and increased the luxury tax (I believe the Yankees paid nearly $20 million to the tax this year).
The team that won the 1996, 1998-2000 championships was made mostly up of farm talent and guys traded for farm talent. Since 2001, the Boss has started to stick his hand into everything (he used to do this prior to the mid-90s, but his team never won, which it hasn't since he started doing it again... the guy clearly can't see the obvious pattern).
I guess I'm just jealous, lol.
Like most people who shit on the Yankees, you are. You wish that your team had an owner willing to spend money. Now, some fans will say "but the reason he can spend money is because the Yankees are in a large media market and the fan base supports it by buying up the merchandising." Well, yeah.... when fans support something it does well. The more fans support something the more they get. However, there are owners who make money and DO NOT put it back into the team. Or, teams like the Expos (now a dead organization, moved to DC), who were given the largest sum of the overall luxury tax and yet did nothing to better their organization.

If you never experience the lowest lows that "your" teams go through, then you really have no idea of the euphoria involved in the championships, or big wins for that matter. I would think that would be a somewhat empty feeling. I'm guessing most people that jump the wagon don't see that image in the mirror. Hey, the Cubs are no slouches in the payroll department with about $100 million this year. And they made the same excuse of being handcuffed to Sammy's deal with the Orioles since they paid him $12.5 million to go play for them this year. But the Cubs are no Yankees.
BTW, Yankees fans are evil. The past 2 seasons, a Yankees fan/Topps baseball card employee gave card # 666 to the player that knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs the previous year. Keith Foulke was 666 this year and Josh Beckett was last year. So, looks like Francisco Rodriguez is going to be next year.

I'm pretty sure that's how I voted on ESPN.com prior to the series starting. It is absolutely amazing how good the Sox have been at coming up with hits when they need them. I can't say that I've ever seen a team manufacture runs the way that they do. The wife and I were bathing the kids last night during the game, I kept poking my head out every few minutes to check on the game. I saw everybody get on to load the bases for Konerko, but missed his grand slam...but just knew that it was coming.

For the first time in 28 years I am taking a break from the World Series. Not watching it at all. The only time I would watch the Sox was during the Windy City Classic on the years they played at Wrigley...but that was only becuase I was at the games.

The Yankees are screwed because of Karma. As long as Bonds Jr is on the roster, they will be blessed with a guy who puts up gaudy numbers but who does not deserve a TEAM Championship.
Until "My Name Is Arod" crosses off #1 on his Karma list by returning to the Mariners and publicly apologizing to all of the Seattle fans for putting individual goals ahead of team goals, then no team he plays on will ever have a shot at a championship - no matter how high their payroll is.

Nope. You are just an A-Rod-not-with-the-Mariners hating nutbag who thinks his version of baseball reality is true.
A-Rod had a great season. The Yankees didn't go to the World Series because they really didn't play well enough this year, what with EVERY starter injured for one or more month this season. Hopefully, next season, they will have better pitching and less injuries.
The only bad karma is with the Mariners. They let people walk away because they were unwilling to pay to keep them.

As long as Bonds Jr is on the roster,I wasn't at first sure whether you were talking about Giambi, because of the steroids, or A-Rod because of the lack of "team-iness".
A-Rod had a great season. As I said, I don't really follow baseball during the regular season, and I didn't watch any of the Yankees/Angels series, but from what I've read, A-Rod was great this season when the Yankees didn't need him to be, and bad when they did need him.
This seems to be similar to most of what I'm reading:
I am just steaming right now and I have to get this off my chest. I'm a die hard Yankee fan, and I have to say one thing ... give Papi the MVP. While watching the bottom of the ninth as the Yanks trailed 5-3 tonight, the first 2 at bats completely summed up the values of Jeter and A-Rod to the Yankees as an organization, it was almost eerie. Maybe Jeter will never put up the numbers that A-Rod can put up over 162 games. But when the Yanks need a baserunner, he gets on base. A-Rod blew it. A-Rod vs Ortiz? Forget about it. This postseason I watched A-Rod's teammates play their guts out and A-Rod let them down. I also watched David Ortiz play his guts out, and his teammates let him down. There's a huge difference. Big Papi gets my vote.

Yes, you will hear that from the usual negative ninnies and people who have no clue what they are talking about. A-Rod won games for us, sometimes by himself. That is a ridiculous statement being perpetuated by people like you, who don't have any facts to back it up.

That is a nice opinion. I can also say "Ortiz did NOTHING in the playoffs, Even less than A-Rod! OMFG!! --Bill from Boston"
Will you then quote me as a legitimate source?
The MVP is given to the best regular season player, not the guy in the playoffs. They have different awards for that. A-Rod didn't do well in the playoffs.

Arod deserves to win the MVP almost every year. He is the best player in baseball hands down. After all, that is what he cares about.. individual awards and $$.
He made a decision to leave a team that he went to the ALCS with and that ended up winning 116 games after he left in favor of a last-place team with no pitching and no hope of winning. All because he needed 25 million a year instead of 18 million. Who knows how important that extra 7 million a year would have been to me. I wasn''t offered it, so I can't say what he should have done. All I know is that he could have stayed on a great team and had a legit shot a winning a team award and he chose to leave for $$'s and individual awards. He gets what he deserves and like Bonds, will never win a team championship.
I can't blame the Yankees for trading for him. On paper it seems like a decent trade and they can absorb his salary. Still.. You don't want to fuck with Karma.

Actually, they bettered the team with the trade. Sori was even worse in the playoffs and his stats provide even less help to the team then A-Rod's.
Still.. You don't want to fuck with Karma.
I agree. No karma was fucked with on A-Rod's end. No team that he has left has won the World Series without him.

I am sure I probably do. Arod is the hot sexy girl who promised me that she was going to stay with me forever and in the end just turned out to be a stripper who left me for a guy that makes more money. Turns out the guy she left me for has crabs though so its all good.
I guess you feel the same way about Junior, Unit, and everyone who ever played on your precious team?
Nah. Randy wanted to stay. Management didn't think he was worth the dough. Not his fault. I was a bit disappointed with Junior, but he wanted to be the MAN and when it was obvious that they were going to focus on Arod he wanted to be the MAN somewhere else. Besides, Junior did enough for the team that I can forgive him being a bit of a baby. In the end, Karma wins out in both occassions. Randy wins a World Series and Junior is The MAN on the DL.
Actually, they bettered the team with the trade. Sori was even worse in the playoffs and his stats provide even less help to the team then A-Rod's.
I think they are both studs. I don't think the uplift they get from Arod to Soriano is worth the extra money, but what the heck.. They are the Yankees. They can afford it.
I bet he cares more about winning the World Series than winning the MVP. He has a MVP award already.
Sure he does.. After going to Texas and finding out what consistent losing is like. If Arod ever wins a WS though on any team, I will be very surprised. The baseball gods are fair and just.

This hits the nail on the head. I have been a Seattle Sports fan since 1979 and have come to live with the fact that just about any Seattle team will get the good prospects, train them, bring them close to stardom, then trade them because they don't want to spend the money to keep them. Who do they get in trade? Some used up has been or a couple more new guys they have to start all over with.
I think the Seahawks' Manaement will shy away from this illogical type of decision making now though, as they are selling out every game and raking in the dough. This being said, them fuckers better sign Shaun Alexander or they will be getting a call from and numerous hate e-mails from me. Kind of like when they threw the AFC Championship game to the Raiders back in the early 80s (Yeah, no resentment there.).
However, I don't feel it was Management's fault that A-Rod and Jr left. They were just greedy bastards. On the other hand, I never lost respect for 'The Big Unit". He was one badass pitcher and carried that team for years. He wanted to stay there, but he also wanted to go because he was getting tired of continually taking a game into the 8th or 9th inning only to have a reliever blow it. He had no back-up. And then came the salary. Those fuckwads in Management didn't want to pay what it would take to keep him. He had earned the right to get any amount he wanted from them, because without him, they wouldn't have had the good years.

When I was a kid, my dad sent a letter to Tom Landry after a big loss telling him that he didn't think they were fired up enough and offered his services to help get the team pepped up before big games. Tom (or more likely an intern) sent him a letter back thanking him for his offer, but politely declining.
After another big loss, my dad sent him another letter telling him that he thought he wasn't emotional enough and threatening to come down there and kick his ass or something like that. That eventually ended in the Dallas police department calling my dad and telling him to stop sending letters to Tom Landry.
You may also be old enough to recall a time when Landry wore a bullet proof vest while coaching. While the timing didn't really coincide with my dad's corespondence, I always get a chuckle when I think that Bill Berquist may have had a hand in it by sending a letter that he didn't tell the family about.

A whole bunch of us hopped in a van and drove to Los Angeles for the AFC Championship game back in 1983. It was the Seahawks -vs- the Raiders. We had beaten the Raiders both times we played them that year, and spanked the Broncos and the Dolphins in the playoffs. We were on our way to the Super Bowl...Hell yeah! Then we choke bigger than shit in the AFC Championship game to the Raiders. Of course I wrote them and asked how much they accepted in exchange for throwing the game. Never got a reply.
