WATCH HOCKEY TONIGHT!!!!
The sport of sports returns tonight after a long ass break. I can't wait. I also scored Blackhawks/Kings tickets 8 rows off the ice for $45 a seat because someone screwed up. I'm seeing them Thanksgiving weekend. WOO HOO!
GO HAWKS! and any player currently on my fantasy team.

I had to splurge yesterday and upgrade from Dish Network's America's Top 60 to America's Top 60 plus, just so that I could get hockey games. I had neither OLN nor Altitude (the channel that the Avs play on). For an extra five dollars a month, I got OLN, FoxSports Rocky Mountain, Altitude, and two horse racing channels. A truely wise investment.
I don't get to go to a game until January. Avs v. Canucks. I can't imagine what happened two years ago not still spilling over to this season...although having Brad May on our team will be kind of confusing.

Psst...Wingman. Go check your fantasy team. I believe you have a trade or two waiting.
I should check and see if I get OLN.

After watching the pre-season, I am not sure I want to watch the regular season. The game has changed.... like Anakin turning into Vader changed.

More like Serenity's box office, crappy and not getting any better.

Edit: Just got back from running some errands. Let my son borrow my truck at lunch. When i got in Primal Concrete Sledge was blaring. Gawt damn, those guys could bring it. Vinnie's machine-gun double bass drums can't be touched by any other drummers out there. IMhumbleO. I'm on a Phsycho Holiday. Yeah.

Woo hoo! Hockey is on! Points are being scored. Penalty minutes are being racked up. And all is right with the world....

After watching the pre-season, I am not sure I want to watch the regular season. The game has changed.... like Anakin turning into Vader changed. The one change that really stood out was the trapezoid that the goalie has to stay in. I can't remember which game it was, but I saw the goalie actually reaching with his stick while staying in the trap. Looked funny.
I got chills when the Avs game first started.
The best part of the "new" hockey:
1 - 10 goal game
2 - 9 goal games
2 - 8 goal games
Best way to bring in non-hockey fans is to increase scoring.

I HATE changing the rules to allow for more scoring. I know that's the only way to draw in the casual fan, but as a former netminder, I find it personally offensive.
The best hockey games are those five-overtime marathons in the playoffs, where the goalies are gods, with everyone in the crowd watching on the edge of their seats, waiting to erupt in unison if that puck ever does cross the line.
There is nothing wrong with a tie in the regular season. That's what the point system is for:two points for a win, one for a tie, zero for a loss. It's simple, and a better gague of how the teams in the league stack up against each other. A shoot out is only the most exciting play in hockey when it is awarded after a holding or hooking penalty during a breakaway.
But, since the North Stars are in Dallas, and Patrick Roy has retired, I've decided to be a Predators fan. Go Preds!

I certainly love the super-duper overtime games, the Avs won their first cup in, I think, a three OT game. It was awesome.
I think the reason that they had to go to shootouts was partially that they will draw in the casual fan and partially because the Win/Loss/Overtime Win/Overtime Loss standings were so obviously ridiculous and going back to Win/Loss/Tie would have shown everybody that they were indeed idiots by going the way that they did.

I remember watching that game too. Patrick Roy is my favorie goalie all time, and it was great watching that. The finals against the Devils was a much better series though.
The overtime Loss thing was rediculous, however my point still stands about Win/Loss/Tie being a better gague against the league.

Hell fucking yeah. Marek Svatos played in his 6th game ever last night...and put up a hat trick in the Av's 7-3 win over the Flames.
