As most of you know I LOVE me some Jake Gyllenhaal. However, I can't say I am guying into Brokeback Mountain yet.

Gay cowboys? I know they exist...heck, the gay rodeo is a rootin tootin good time. (Maybe that was a bad choice of phrasing) There is just something that isn't grabbing me in the trailer. Of course, I have yet to really love an Ang Lee film either.

Thoughts?

If you haven't watched the trailer yet, check out: http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/brokeback_mountain.html

C'mon, the hat and the buckle didn't tip you off ?
Most guys who dress that way are closet cases.

Key being "dress that way."

These two are actually supposed to be real working cowboys. If we judged only by the way that gay people dress then all cops, fireman, indians, construction workers, cowboys, and people who wear leather are gay too.

I was at the last Ranger game on Sunday, so I missed most of the debacle. They had the beginning of the game playing on the TV in our box, but I didn't catch much of it.

We can't keep expecting to pull off close ones, or take the ones that aren't close and fuck them up at the end.

I have. In fact, I had to retype it once. It's not as much the sexual innuendo as the fact that "Bareback" is a commonly used combination and "brokeback" isn't. But it's so darn funny when I fuck it up!

See, I'm not sure that has ever been a fantasy of mine...but these things happen sometimes. A guys gotta do what a guys gotta do.

[See Cberquist's movie "Swamper" to validate what I am saying above.]

Maybe it will be my own private "My Own Private Idaho" that I will love and cherish and rewatch over and over. Or maybe they will suddenly start flying through the air and unite in a massive blow job orgy-o-rama and I can never have the same kinky sex dreams about Jake without that damn Heath barging in.

Not interested. Pass. I don't like chick flicks, so why would I want to see this dick flick? There, I said it. I'm not hollywood chic/trendy/whatever.Oh, come on. Every hollywood buddy-picture is rampant with homosexual undertones that aren't very far fetched to reach, and you can't make the tiniest of leaps to a conclusion that has been alluded to throughout cinematic history?

Hell, if you had any worthwhile relationship with your best friend growing up, the first time one of you got a girlfriend, how jealous was the other one? Exactly!

And hollywood chic is an explosion filled, bullet riddled, catch phrasing, Happy-Meal schilling machine.

The thing is, the movie didn't give off a chick-flicky vibe to me. It was very truthful and didn't hide anything of what it was presenting. It does get a lil' graphic in one scene, but hey, I wasn't surprised by it at all. The actors were very loving and caring to the role and it shows that the two have incredible chemistry together. It was a brilliant piece of work and even if you don't agree with same sex relationships, I think you should give it a try because the over all message of the film was despite being in a same sex relationship, it all comes down to love. It is great. I highly recommend it and I plan on seeing it again before it exits the theatre.

Say, personal views are what make us unique. I do not agree with homosexuality and choose not to see a movie because of it's homosexual content. I bet there are things I go to and see that you would refuse to, based on your views..

So what's the problem here Smurfy? This is not a personal slam against you..... you liked the movie, great! I am not going to see it.

Also, I think Gays should have the right to marry. Why shouldn't they have equal opportunity to be just as miserable as the rest of us.

Look at it this way, they would be equally vocal and annoyed if you had married and gotten pregnant to some idiot at 18. As for learning to cook, the way to do it is start throwing drunken dinner parties. It's the only way to make it fun, and also make bad food in the beginning that your guests won't remember eating.

And then my grandparents were so excited when I finally got a boyfriend. Like they thought I was some lesbian or something. When my mom told me that, I laughed so hard and said, mom, I like boys WAYYYY too much. They got married around my age and they think I should be married already have have two children. Here's how Larry David weighs in on Brokeback Mountain from the NYTimes (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/01/opinion/01david.html?oref=login):

Cowboys Are My Weakness
By LARRY DAVID
Published: January 1, 2006
SOMEBODY had to write this, and it might as well be me. I haven't seen "Brokeback Mountain," nor do I have any intention of seeing it. In fact, cowboys would have to lasso me, drag me into the theater and tie me to the seat, and even then I would make every effort to close my eyes and cover my ears.

And I love gay people. Hey, I've got gay acquaintances. Good acquaintances, who know they can call me anytime if they had my phone number. I'm for gay marriage, gay divorce, gay this and gay that. I just don't want to watch two straight men, alone on the prairie, fall in love and kiss and hug and hold hands and whatnot. That's all.

Is that so terrible? Does that mean I'm homophobic? And if I am, well, then that's too bad. Because you can call me any name you want, but I'm still not going to that movie.

To my surprise, I have some straight friends who've not only seen the movie but liked it. "One of the best love stories ever," one gushed. Another went on, "Oh, my God, you completely forget that it's two men. You in particular will love it."

"Why me?"

"You just will, trust me."

But I don't trust him. If two cowboys, male icons who are 100 percent all-man, can succumb, what chance to do I have, half- to a quarter of a man, depending on whom I'm with at the time? I'm a very susceptible person, easily influenced, a natural-born follower with no sales-resistance. When I walk into a store, clerks wrestle one another trying to get to me first. My wife won't let me watch infomercials because of all the junk I've ordered that's now piled up in the garage. My medicine cabinet is filled with vitamins and bald cures.

So who's to say I won't become enamored with the whole gay business? Let's face it, there is some appeal there. I know I've always gotten along great with men. I never once paced in my room rehearsing what to say before asking a guy if he wanted to go to the movies. And I generally don't pay for men, which of course is their most appealing attribute.

And gay guys always seem like they're having a great time. At the Christmas party I went to, they were the only ones who sang. Boy that looked like fun. I would love to sing, but this weighty, self-conscious heterosexuality I'm saddled with won't permit it.

I just know if I saw that movie, the voice inside my head that delights in torturing me would have a field day. "You like those cowboys, don't you? They're kind of cute. Go ahead, admit it, they're cute. You can't fool me, gay man. Go ahead, stop fighting it. You're gay! You're gay!"

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Larry David appears in the HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

That is hysterical! I love Larry David.

He does have a point I agree with though. I have no desire to see cowboys holding hands and falling in love. Writers? Fine. Ballet Dancers? Fine. Hairdressers? Show me a movie about hetero ones and I would be wierded out. ;)

That is hysterical! I love Larry David.

He does have a point I agree with though. I have no desire to see cowboys holding hands and falling in love. Writers? Fine. Ballet Dancers? Fine. Hairdressers? Show me a movie about hetero ones and I would be wierded out. ;)

Ahhh... but the performances. You go to see the brilliant performances by the actors.

Zens, I laughed my ass off at your joke. But, I told it to a couple other people and they just looked at me and walked away. Like parents, they just don't understand.

We use it so much now we have dropped the first part and whenever somebody changes the subject randomly we say "Want to go ride bikes?"

It is probably a good thing that you don't go. You wouldn't want to catch the gay.

My cousin caught it and it THERE IS NO CURE!

Seriously, there is no way I would ever see this movie.

Ever.

I thought of you only because of the dehydrated Mexican incident.
It is best never to mention it. Even here, in Cairo's notorious "Robot Slum", we only speak of "el incidente Mexicano deshidratado" in hushed tones.
