Every year, some radio station here in the DC area (usually DC 101) calls the tenth month of the year "Rock-tober". And since I like to take an idea and run it into the ground, here's this month's Introduce Yourself:
1. Are you going to a rockin' Halloween party this year? If so, are you going in costume or not?
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?

1. Are you going to a rockin' Halloween party this year? If so, are you going in costume or not?
Well, I liked the idea from the Halloween thread and I may go as She-Ra this year. It's either that, or I will need to get creative.
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
Haven't seen it. Didn't go to the movies this weekend.
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
Not that it is better, but I am partial to "Like a Rock" because it reminds me of my now stolen car and high school.
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
I have box seats through work at Nokia Theater and the next show is David Gray. I just got his new disc and although his first two didn't do much for me this one I LOVE. Now I am excited, whereas before I was thinking of giving the tickets to clients.
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
Speaking of David Gray - his new one. Also the new Ryan Adams and the Lost Cardinals has been in heavy rotation.
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
I haven't watched either one of them. I won't have TV again until I officially move to the new loft on Oct. 15th.
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
Sure. I am already a classically trained pianist so that would be the default. However, I need to learn to rock something else. Maybe the Cello. I dig that low mournful sound.
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
Baby, One More Time. It spawned a nightmare of years where every girl who was cute, but couldn't sing a note, thought and did have a chance at rock-stardom. [Shivers]
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
Ramona Flowers is who I hope the boys would choose, because I can relate to having six or seven evil ex-boyfriends.
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
Come Pick Me Up - Ryan Adams
...come pick me up
take me out
fuck me up
steal my records
screw all my friends
with a smile on your facce
and then do it again
i wish you would

I plan on it and yes. As someone already pointed out, I've gotta little Captain in me, and I will be using it as a pick up line on Halloween. :D
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
If I have the time and money I will go see it.
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
Damn, you make me feel young.
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
The Nintendo Fusion Tour looks awesome and so does the SayAnything/Rise Against/The Early November/Saves the Day show.
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
In reality it is a Drive Thru records comp., but right before it was Motion City Soundtrack's new albulm "Commit This to Memory".
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
I haven't seen either and want to see both, but My Name is Earl looks more promising.
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
Alto Sax or air guitar.
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
I think Zens nailed it.
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
Huh?
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
Attractive Today off the Motion City Soundtrack albulm I mentioned.

Every year, some radio station here in the DC area (usually DC 101) calls the tenth month of the year "Rock-tober".
Actually I just heard a DJ on the radio here this morning refer to it as Rocktober too!
1. Are you going to a rockin' Halloween party this year? If so, are you going in costume or not?
Sadly Halloween isn't really celebrated here.
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
Hell yeah. It was hella cool.
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
Geez. I'm embarrassed to say I don't know either song.
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
I'm even more embarrassed to admit that there aren't any concerts in my near future. Although I would have gone to see The Bangles but $100 for a ticket to see a has been 80's band? I don't think so.
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
In the work car: Alanis Morrissette's Jagged Little Pill Acoustic version
In my car: Elton John's Love Songs
In the office: 13 Going on 30 soundtrack
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
We haven't got either of those shows here yet. Won't be holding my breath either.
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
Hell no. That dude is a egomaniacal dickwad.
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
My immediate thought was the Macarena but seeing as Smurfy already claimed that one, I'll go with that milkshake song.
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
I have no idea who these people are but I'm gonna co with "Knives"
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
Everybody was Kung-fu fighting

4) Indeed. Brendan Benson this week and hopefully The Frames next month
5) Theres two, Weezer's Green Album and A Tribe Called Quest's "Low End Theory"
8) Somewhere over the rainbow... dear god I hate that song
9) Who?
10) "Theme song to your life" ...I fucking hate that phrase, even worse is "Soundtrack to your life". It's just pretentious

1. Are you going to a rockin' Halloween party this year? If so, are you going in costume or not?
No, and, well...no
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
No. (haven't seen it...probably won't)
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
Rolling Stones > Bob Seger...period
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
No, not really. Is English a second language? This question sounded like a letter I get from Russian women looking for a husband. :p
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
Don't laugh...an Etta James disc from Starbucks. Fuck you, I said don't laugh
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
My Name is Earl...I've already seen Chris Rock's stand-up routine about growing up. I don't need it watered down and filtered through a sitcom.
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
Yes...tongue.
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
This will probably shock a lot of you, but I'd go with NWA's Straight Outta Compton. That CD, more than any other, launched the thug mentality...thereby burying the intelligent, thoughtful groups (De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, etc.) under an avalanche of stupidity...and paving the way for the utterly retarded, both mentally and socially, garbage that clogs up the airwaves today.
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
Ramona is definitely a girl's name, so I'll go with that one. I sure hope these aren't all drag queens from some seedy strip club/gay bar you frequent. :p
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
Yea, Alabama The University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band. What? We're 5-0 and ranked #7. :D
1. Are you going to a rockin' Halloween party this year? If so, are you going in costume or not?
Why not everyday
Are you so afraid
What will people say
After Halloween
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
Maybe is all that I can offer now
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
i stand by none of the above
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
The good bands don’t come around here no more.
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
Car-Garden State Soundtrack
Home-Jane’s Addiction
Office-Radio (song right now –NIN Only)
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
I haven’t seen them both yet, but Earl is pretty funny. I think it’d be tough to beat.
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
No, I’d probably do better at teaching myself the bass.
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
That stupid chicken dance song.
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
I googled them, if I were Scott I’d be gay.
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
I have lost my mind
I'm walking through time
Deluded as the next guy
Pretending and hoping to find
That distant peace of mind
I don't know

Hoobastank - The reason is you.
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
I had to do an image search to figure out these are comic-book characters, none of them seem very datable. I have this silly rule about my dates having a pulse.
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
I've got another confession my friend
I'm no fool.
I'm gettin' tired of startin' again
Somewhere new.

I swear I'll never give in

1. Are you going to a rockin' Halloween party this year? If so, are you going in costume or not?
No. I don’t think so, anyway. Hey, doesn’t Dick Clark have to be present for an event to be considered rockin’?
2. Serenity - Did it rock your world?
Why would serenity rock anyone’s world? I would think it would have more of a calming or stabilizing effect. Unless.....is Serenity that new fragrance from Cher? I don’t wear perfume.
3. Which is the better song: "Rock and a Hard Place" by the Rolling Stones or "Like A Rock" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band?
Rock and a Hard Place, although Rock Lobster has got ‘em both snookered.
4. Are there any fall concerts that you're looking for to attending?
No soup or live music for me.
5. What CD is spinning in your car/home/office right now?
Car/home/office? Are you suggesting that I live and work out of my automobile? That’s uncanny. Spot on. Good for you. I’m listening to the musical mastery of Charles Mingus’ Ah Um. Hot damn! That’s music.
6. Which is the funniest new TV show, "My Name is Earl" or "Everybody Hates Chris" (Rock - man, that's was a stretch)?
I don’t watch enough TV, I guess.
7. Would you join Gene Simmons' "School of Rock"? If so, what would be your instrument?
Hell no! He was a rude bastard to Terry Gross.
8. If you could erase one song or CD from Pop Culture's collective memory, which one would that be?
The Reflex by Duran, Duran. The “why-ai-ai-ai-ai” part triggers my gag reflex.
9. Who would you date - Knives Chau, Ramona Flowers or Envy Adams?
I haven't read those books. These questions are making me feel stupid. I mean more stupid than's normal for me to feel.
10. What is the theme song to your life right now?
Fuckin' Up by Neil Young. :)

This is Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
Stockholm 1963.
Two masters of freedom, playing before their art was corrupted by cocktail lounge performers who destroyed this American legacy.
Jazz.
I've put some Mingus on there, too.

Just got a Halloween party invite that specifies all vampire costumes. Fuckin' A. Think I'm gonna do a leather-clad "Lost Boys"-ish vamp, with a crucifix burn across the forehead ala "Fright Night". Anyone got any other suggestions?

brian jones is godThat dude was the real musician in that band. Too bad that bitch Pallenberg fucked his mind over. Up and Down With the Rolling Stones is a pretty good read on the subject. And the guy was a good-looker, too. Yeah, I said it. Married with two kids, I ain't got no problems with my sexuality. Latent homo tendencies aside.:D
