I start back to school in roughly two weeks, and I wanted to take a road trip to Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash summer. This gives me enough time to accomplish this goal, but I don't know if I should. Since I am seventeen, on a limited budget, do not have permission (I'm not asking because I know it will not be granted), and will be traveling alone, I am hesitant about doing this. However, I like driving and think this would be one hell of a way to end my summer. What say you?
EDIT: I was going to tell everyone, but not until I was at least in Indiana.

I had to vote no. From Peoria to Redbank is 929 miles. That's a helluva a long way to drive for anyone, especially alone. I love to drive, myself. I drive to Texas about every three months- 727 miles and it wipes me out. I've been on the roads for 17 years, several of those doing jobs that were nothing but driving and I get nervous going those long distances, out in the middle of nowhere. And you being 17- I wouldn't advise it. Especially if you're just going to go without telling anyone what you're doing. If you had a couple of friends to go with you, it would be a nice trip but I'd still say no- wait until after you graduate.

Like Miles says in Risky Buisness " Sometimes you just gotta say 'What the Fuck?' "

Or, Like Obi Wan says in ANH " You must do what you feel is right to the force."

I say , You're only young once , just check your fluid levels and make sure you have a good spare.

Or as I say, "When in doubt, turn left".

As long as your ride is not a P.O.S., and you don't try to do the whole 929 miles in one day, it could be quite fun. I LOVE road trips. And you've got two weeks, right? Spread it out over a week, if you think you can be away that long. Use campgrounds if you can. However, there is one consideration: $2.50 per gallon.

By the way, does anyone nkow if KS is at the storea cuz It would be cool if he was there and I go. This came from the I'm drunk thread, but since I'm not, and you'll probably only be hung over when you read this....

Now that KS lives in Hollywood, and there is a new west coast Secret Stash, your chances of catching KS at a Secret Stash are much greater in LA. But that's 2008 miles.

The route does follow much of old "Route 66", so if you had the time, and at least one person to go with you, it could be great. And there are many west coast shooters that you could hang with too. But I think maybe the longer West Coast Stash trip is best saved for next year, when you are 18 and don't need permission.

PS: New comic book day is Wednesday. Wherever you go, time it to arrive on Wednesday.

I have travelled all over the country alone, mostly for business. It takes common sense above all else to stay safe. Also I have never travelled on a strapped budget. If you have a car that is even remotely unreliable you should hold off. Getting stuck in Pennsylvania with no money and car trouble is BAD. Especially if your family is not going to provide you with support.

JKuhulon is right, driving long distances really wipes you out, so you have to space it out more than one day. Having driven back and forth from Rockford, IL to Dallas, TX about 10 times I can attest to this. That is a 17 hour drive and is 1100 miles. Almost the same distance as you are going. I have done it in a one day trip and you are sore and tired for a week afterward.

Road trips are awesome, but it does help to do them with company if you can. Split the costs of gas, overnight stays, even the driving. Consider this...you are only 17 and will have all of college to do the same trip...and maybe with a bit more financial stability to prevent trouble.

Right...I definitely had more money as a poor college student than I did as a living-with-my-parents high school student. Cookoo. Cookoo.

I say go. If something happens to you then we will have a story to tell all the other people who ask whether they should go or not. You will be a cautionary tale.

By the way, I was almost shot in West Virginia about 10 years ago because I walked up to a car with my hands in my pockets. Just something for you to think about.

No way jose. Too expensive. All that that will be gleaned from such a trip is misery.

God, I've become a miserable old fart.

He is not getting any support from his parents now and when you are in college you can spilt up the expenses of a trip. Therefore it's cheaper.

Of course, I was a spoiled pain in the ass in college, but the theory is sound.

:( As great of an idea as it was, I'm gonna have to take actual's advice. I might end up doing this next summer (the Cali trip sounds promising), but I now realize that there are too many things to lose from an excursion such as this, i.e. get fired from job, get car taken away, possible shit that could go wrong on the road (I don't know shit about cars). However if I don't chicken shit myself out of it, I am definitely coming next year. I might just stop by and see some of you over-educated and often under-dressed (fashionably not literally except hopefully in the case of the hotties:D ) individuals who have climbed to the elite class known only as the Shooters.
P.S. Please don't rip into for being a pussy and not going; I am pissed enough at myself as is.

Hey, if anyone's a pussy then it's me! Being just under 4 hours away you'd think I'd have gone already, though if I'm ever to get some decent comics I might have to plan a trip soon. Hmm, I think I have a vacation coming up this September...

Spontaneity is fine, as long as you plan a little. With a bit more time to plan and to find someone to go with you (and split the gas money), you'll have a great time. Hell someone has to hold the camera when they take your picture at the Cadillac Ranch, or else it'll end up like this!!

As for lack of car knowledge, as long as your car is not a big POS and is usually reliable day in and day out, has good airred-up tires, and working AC (especially if you go west), you'll be fine! And yes, come and see us!

We're actually planning a field trip to the West Coast Stash this weekend (along with Diagon Alley, the HP store). Anybody need anything?

Ahh, West Texas is so beautiful in the um...summertime? It's so hard to say West Texas is ever beautiful.
