Yes, he has finally been beamed up. I hope I'm able to accomplish half as much. The obit on NPR mentioned two things about him that I did not know:

He took part in the Normandie Beach landing during WW2.

He lost a finger during the war. Surprising, seeing as how I never noticed that during any of 1000's of times I watched the show and the movies.

RIP Scotty

How else would he keep his reputation as a miracle worker ?

that reminds me of the TNG episode where Scotty is brought on board the new Enterprise and chastises Jordie (sp?) for giving correct time estimates on fixes. It was a great scene. He'll be missed.

*picks up mouse and says "computer?" with just a hint of sadness.

I am not a Star Trek fan, so Scotty was a vague concept to me. However, I heard and saw multiple interviews about the man yesterday. What impressed me is how everyone said that he embraced the fandom. He recognized that he was going to be known for this one role that only lasted three years. Most stars would lament how they were a "serious actor" and then mock the very fans that gave them their stardom in the first place.

According to what I heard yesterday he behaved the opposite. He took part in the conventions whenever he could, and cheerfully accepted the fans who couldn't control saying "Beam Me Up Scotty" whenever he was around.

Good show! A majority of the younger actors in Hollywood could use an infusion of that type of class.

As silly as it is, I've always liked this song.

Its makes you sad to hear that a icon you grew up with is dead. Just think about it, most of us are going to outlive Clint Eastwood, or Shatner, or Bill Clinton. Its strange. Who are the kids of Today going to grow up with? That kid from "Holes" or "Thats So Raven"? Those poor bastards.

Scotty will be missed, he was one of the best.

I'm not sure why, really, but that scares me.

I read his autobiography a few years ago, and the reason you never noticed is the simple fact that Jimmy figured that with all that advanced technology that it made no sence that the engineer would me missing a finger. Pay a little closer attention and you will see that he always has his hand behind a piece of machinery or he is standing at millitary attention. The only episode you can see the missing finger is "The Trouble with Tribbles" as he is holding two armfulls of tribbles, however, I think it just looks like his finger is bent inward, into the mass of tribbles.

Thank you, Wingman. And thank you, Scotty, for giving us so many great quotes to make dirty jokes out of. We'll miss ya, guy.
