This weekend is the premiere of two films which I've been wanting to watch all summer. The Devil's Rejects is the sequel to the amazing House of 1000 Corpses (which I thought was a masterpiece). But then there are the Bears, the Bad News Bears, which is the re-make of my favorite sports movie ever. Which one should I go see on Friday!?

I never heard of the first one you mentioned, nor have I ever seen the House of 1000 Corpses, so I'd watch Bad News Bears. I laughed my ass of in Bad Santa. The way Billy Bob and that little kid acted around each other was hilarious, so I'm hoping this one will be just as funny.

If you want to see both of the movies, why don't you go to both of the movies? Then you can come back here and give us a double dose of reviews.

I'd probably go for the Devil's Rejects. I'd rather see an original movie than a remake any day. Plus, if the reviews are anywhere near accurate, Rob Zombie has supposedly duplicated that campy-yet-gritty 70's style he was shooting so hard for in House of 1000. Frankly, I loved the overacting in House of 1000, even if it did get tedious after awhile.

I've got an even bigger decision on the horizon- I'm filing for my certificate of eligibility for a VA home loan and I'm looking for a house. First house. I've got six months left on the current lease- plenty of time to look and decide. So, I'll be going to a few less movies to save some scratch. Luckily though, I've got four free passes to see whatever I want, so I'll be seeing both the Rejects and the Bears...

Dude, Billy Bob Thornton is pretty funny as the crass character he plays, but have you really been keeping your eye on this for a long time? I am the exact opposite with all these remakes. I think he's funny, and the movie'll be funny, but does Hollywood have an original idea left? Sometimes I wonder. It would be easier to get worked up about a good remake, if they weren't a dime a dozen.

Maybe that is because Atlanta is my least favorite city in this country.

Dallas... Dallas, Georgia. (I wish it were Dallas, Texas) I can get a helluva lot of house in Dallas (Georgia) for not so much money.

Last time I checked on real Estate in the the big D, it was going for about $65.00-80.00 per sq.ft.

So far, I've found a 3/2 1/2 on an acre with 2 car garage, finished basement, cathedral ceilings, deck, wrap-around porch, etc etc etc, for $140K. Listings in Georgia aren't required to give square footage, so I have no idea what that works out to. Compared to other areas of the metro Atlanta area, that's a damn good price for a new home. Try to get something like that within the perimeter and you'll easily spend over $250K.

The fiancee complained that everything I've sent her so far has huge yards and it'd have to be mowed all the time. My reply was "Exactly!" I love mowing grass...

That was a lame joke. I'm not much for mystery beef. I had 2 "Monster" energy drinks for lunch, probably worse for me than 3 hot dogs.

Saw Devil's Rejects... FUCKING AMAZING. Well shot, good plot and thoroughly disturbed. All the things that were promised when House of 1000 corpses came out that didn't happen were present in this film. It's destined to be a cult classic. The ending kind of sucked though. I was cheering for the Devil's Rejects the whole time, because they were crazy and murderous but they were charismatic. Captain Spaulding was a more 3 dimensional character than in the first film, he was also much crazier.

I was cheering for the Rejects as well, but I was cheering for Sheriff Wyndell as well. Mixed emotions at the end. Good flick. Next up- Bad News Bears. (Another perk from work= free movie tickets...)

Bad News Bears, too, was amazing. Billy Bob Thornton was excellent as Buttermaker. The only problem i had with it was it was a little too mean to the kid in the wheel chair.

Throw in a fiancee, and I'll take it. :)

Okay though, for serious dude, I think that place is haunted. When I first looked at the picture I swear saw someone standing on the front steps, and then a second later they weren't there.

The worst part is I think they know , that I saw them, and now they will be looking for me .

It's the tallest house on the tallest hill in the cul de sac. When I first saw it, I thought of Norman Bates, then I thought to myself "I could walk around in there without any pants and no one would know."

Once the girl gets out here and gets settled, we can go ahead with a bid and all that. Of course, she'll make sure I am wearing pants.

I was taking stock of my situation the other day and I came to the realization that I know two things about buying a house-

Jack and Shit. And wouldn't you know it, Jack left town...

Any advice?

Definitely get the house inspected before you buy it. Get your own inspector and not one from the realator or seller. This isn't as important if the house is brand new, as they get inspected upon completion. Well, they do here.

I know people who have purchased houses without the inspection being done, and they ran up big expenses getting everything fixed.

Also, if the house is on a hillside or sloped ground, have the foundation inspected to make sure it was built properly and that is isn't slipping. Nothing worse than having your house slip on it's foundation. It creates cracks in your walls and causes doors and windows to go out of plumb. If you do look under the house and it has foundation jacks installed; that is a big sign the foundation was built properly and the house slipped. They use the jacks to level the house back out. Just installing the jacks and leveling it that initial time will sometimes correct the problem, but on other occasions, they will need to continue to make minor adjustments. It just depends on how bad the situation was at the start.

As long as your realtor is from a respectable company, you should be just fine. They take care of most everything for you. As Ratm said, inspections are crucial. The furnace needs to be the most thoroughly inspected. In moist climates, like yours, cracked heat exchangers are quite common. Not only can this lead to a CO leak(read: death), it almost always means that a new furnace is needed. In theory your inspector should be trained to do this. Sadly, most here are rather inept at it as it only requires one day of training. When we sold our condo, the buyer's inspector said that we had a cracked heat exchanger. Obviously a $6000 furnace in a condo that we were selling for $95000 would have been a deal breaker. We had a guy come out from a plumbing company to certify that the furnace was fine. Very well spent $200. Probably would be worth it no matter what the home inspector says. The new thing these days is to have the seller throw in a warranty on the house(although, you can buy one yourself if they won't do the throwing). For 300 or so dollars you can warranty all the expensive stuff in the house...furnace, roof, water heater, plumbing...Be prepared to feel pretty sick on the closing day. Prior to buying the condo, the most expensive thing that I had ever bought was a $600 car. The jump up to an $88000 house really stressed out my stomach. Be also prepared for lots of signing. If possible, have them leave your middle initial off of the contract in order to save yourself a few hundred strokes. That's all I can think of right now.
