Okay, please don't come at me with the Howizters. I noticed Bams' thread about "Wedding Crashers", and thought to myself, would I go to the theater or wait for small screen. Then thought a little more, and couldn't remember the last time I went to the theater without expecting a visual onslaught of some sort. Plane, train or automobile chases, dragons, Martian recall, dinosaurs, zombies(fast or slow), X-fighters, candy menagerie, Shelly Long and Barbara Bach half nekkid, some sort of candy for the eyes. Most love stories and comedies are created more for the heart and mind, and less for the eyes(Halle Berry's work excluded). What about you guys? Do you care for the big screen, if there is nothing "big" to see?(Please no Ron Jeremy jokes.:p )

I like a good story. If the visuals fit with the story, great. But I don't go to the theater just for the special effects. I like to be wowed. If I go too often to see the big budget effects laden blockbusters, the visuals lose their impact for me and I get bored. I may go see Wedding Crashers just because it's been so long since I've seen a good R-rated adult film that wasn't some sappy love story or a whiz-bang light show...

I previewed that and I realized I need some coffee or something...

Eye candy, for me, is the old Technicolor. I remember the first time I saw the Searchers, and how I rewound the VHS tape again and again. I was hypnotized by the whole thing. The story was decent. The cast was great. The director was at the top of his game. Good Stuff. I have heard others describe it as, "lameness on the plains." ehhh...

i just want something entertianing. If a movie is all effects and no story, i feel ripped off. There has to be a good script first.

I don't care much for any one thing. I go to a movie and enjoy the story. If I like the story then I will probably find a way to enjoy the movie.

I like a good drama more than an action flick but I try to judge each movie based on my level of enjoyment/entertainment/connection while watching it.

I seem to only get out to the theatres during the summer, so I almost always end up seeing just the summer blockbusters and end up renting all the dramas and such. The last movie I saw in spring was probably Kill Bill Vol. 2. Still haven't seen Sin City, which pisses me off (it was out of theatres in just 4 weeks. WTF!). I saw Cinderella Man in theatres this summer, which was nice, but frankly, I'd enjoy it just as much on a smaller screen.

Do you care for the big screen, if there is nothing "big" to see?(Please no Ron Jeremy jokes.:p )Sure, I'll go watch a movie on the big screen that doesn't have Bruce Willis in it.

I guess I base my decision on three things:
1. If I am interested
2. If I have the money
3. If I have the time

My interest varies everyday. Depends on what I feel like watching at the time. As good as a steak may be, I wouldn't want to eat it cooked the same way everytime.

Yeah, that was what I was getting at.

Audience is the only other factor that will bring me to the movies, but only if its a good comedy. If you look up the War of the Worlds post, you'll see why I don't watch other kinds of movies for the 'community spirit'. But, like when I saw Jackass in theatres, I had an excellent time. Had I seen the movie at home by myself, I might have thought "this is an immature waste of time". But with contageous laughing, many comedies get better than they deserve. Austin Powers, for instance, is damned unfunny unless you're with a bunch of friends.

Team America was ten times funnier with a crowd.

Good input.

Reminds me of seeing A Clockwork Orange at a midnight showing on campus. Everyone was wound, and they showed the most violent cartoons possible. Someone yelled "THRASH HIM!". It would never have been the same without the mob.

The phrase eye candy always makes my mind go straight to thoughts of one person...

Much like a Star Wars premiere. When the entire audience is anticipating a movie so much, its impossible not to love it. If I had to review Episode II five minutes after I left the theatre, I would have declared it the best movie ever, better than Citizen Kane. Its rare that these kinds of movie events come along, but when they do, its worth it. Even the Harry Potter flicks, which I'm not crazy about, are a blast at midnight showings.
