As you all or at least most of you have already went out and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... what the fuck was Tim Burton thinking! Did he even read the book. It seem like he just skimmed through the pages and looked at the pictures and got the brilliant idea to make a remake. Since when does Willy Wonka have daddy issues? In almost every one of Tim Burton movies there is something wrong with the father figure. God Damn Tim get the fuck over it and grow up and stop fucking up good movies and maybe read and reserch something before you decide to do a remake. Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Is it just me, or are the bad guys so awesome sometimes that you want to see *them* win? The good guys in Tron were such tools.

New Tron comic coming from Slave Labor Graphics.

SLG's full color Tron comic series, which is based on the Tron feature film from 1982, is also due out in the spring of 2006 and will follow the further adventures of a game designer who is sucked into a giant mainframe computer and has to navigate through the strange digital world.

I hate to say it but I think I agree with dark_vixxin.

I like pretty much all of Tim Burton’s movies (well at least all of the ones I’ve seen); but I really hated his re-make of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I have seen the original version at least 15 times in the last 6 months alone, its obviously one of my favorite movies, and I thought that Tim fucked it up royally! The only part I liked about the movie was the way that Johnny Depp said some of his lines, I hated they way the Wonkas character was portrayed in this movie. The Ummpaloompas were terrible (common now did we really need a back story on them, that was part of their creepiness in the first place, the fact that we didn’t really know what they were!) Willy Wonka’s character in the first movie wasn’t flat out mean like he was in this one; Wonka was mean but in a very sly way, so sly you almost didn’t catch it the first time around. I know that Tim was trying to make this movie his own but god Willy didn’t even sing!

Tim fucked up. :(

I don't recall Willy Wonka singing in the book...

That’s because he didn’t sing in the book I was trying to compare the new movie to the old movie. I know he was trying to make it from the book but I don’t recall anything about Willy’s dad being a dentist and Willy having giant scary braces with head gear .

I haven't seen this one yet, as my transportation is still in the shop. However, Wonka did explain in the original movie where the Oompa Loompas came from.

Tim Burton's a freak. All of his movies have this undertow of demonic darkness. It doesn't surprise me that he screwed up 'Willie Wonka'.

Burton's ideas for the movie were presented very greatly, but the script was horrible. And I felt the film was a little rushed. I usually do enjoy the things that Burton does, but I just hope he doesn't let me down for 'Corpse Bride' like he did for this film.

I always liked the dissonant, surrealistic visuals, like some unrealized and now obselete self-image of 1950's middle America with the pastel tract houses and their obtuse angles. I appreciate Burton for his scene composition , but his characters are usually thin, flat and one-dimensional.

That’s because he didn’t sing in the book

Actually, he does. The entire "there's no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going" song (more of a rhyming talk-sing, granted) that Gene Wilder just nails in the original is taken right from the book, word for word.

Sorry, it's only been... 15 years... since I've sat down and watched the movie and... 20 years since I read the book.

Why is everyone in such a pissy mood about this movie? If everyone hates Tim Burton so much, why the hell did they go see the movie?

I think he's great. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I think I'll like it.

I thought the teacher sang the candyman song?
O'well, I guess the candyman singing it would make more sense.

I've got no big complaints about Tim Burton nor about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The candyman does indeed sing "The Candyman Can" in the original. And, speaking of the teacher, I think he had a cameo in the new one...not according to IMDB...

My main point still stands, I don't recall everyone bursting into song throughout the book every chance they got. I could be mistaken- like I said, it's been twenty years since I read the book. But I do remember I never cared for the movie because of all the singing. The oompa loompa singing was fine- it had the creepy vibe going, but everyone else singing as well detracted from it.

As Chris pointed out...I think in the Mail Shoot, everyone hates the "Cheer Up, Charlie" song. "The Candyman Can" has always been a-ok in my book, other than that I think there are just Oompa-loompa songs, Willy's "there's no earthly way of knowing" song, and Violet's "I want it now" song...so I guess there are quite a bit of songs. Never seemed to bother me I guess.

Veruca sings 'I Want It Now.' ;) Btw, the musical adaptation of the book is still better, darn it!

Wonka sings the song pure imagination in the original movie; you know the theme song to the entire movie...

I like the original WW, in the context of it being a musical. But I like the new one too, precisely because it's NOT exactly the same as WW, and because it's NOT a musical.

It has music in it, but the musical numbers are restricted to the oompa-loompas, and therefore work really well, especially due to Elfman's brilliance. It felt fresh, with new characters, flashbacks, and WW's "origin story", if you will.

Sorry to disagree, but I think Burton did it justice. His trademark Goth style works well with the story and with Elfman's music. And I fail to see the WW / Michael Jackson connection. For one, Jackson likes kids. Really, really likes kids. Depp's WW, like Wilder's, clearly does not.

He is pretending not to like little boys. Like Michael Jackson, he will take advantage of them in the back of a candy shop...or in the dark corner of the factory.

To clairify something , I love Tim Burtons work i think he's a brilliant director. I was just very dissapointed in the movie because i hate when remakes are made of movies when they dont need to be. (Plus i've been waiting for this movie to come out since December!) The orignal I used to watch all the time when i was a kid. I just hate the modern twist directors put in remakes. The movie was ok, pritty acurate to the book minus the dialog. The ending is what messed it up. I hated it plus i hated the flashbacks. For the record Johnny Depp didnt base his character after Jackson. He based it after MArilyn Manson and someone elce because Manson didnt get the part. Thats all for my opinions on the flick think what u want, have a nice day.;)

I think Marylin Manson would scare the kids just a little too much. that's why johny depp was put in for this slot.

I'm not in a pissy mood about it. I haven't seen it yet. and I'll probably like it. then again I'm weird and I like odd movies.
