Being out on a truck now, the radio has become my best bud lately, and I have gotten caught up on the most rocking stuff out there, but out of curiosity, I wanna know what are you guys' favorite new songs. They don't have to be rock though. So, go!

The new tune from Crossfade..."Colors" is awesome. They are playing the hell out of it on rock radio, which means too much. But I haven't gotten burned out on it yet. I dig the new Seether(Remedy) too. Also "Wasteland" from Ten Years.

I haven't listened to anything but talk radio in so long...

I do like the new Foo Fighters.

I had to reply to myself. I have been trying to find out what one song was, and I finally did. Nickelback: Because of You. That song rocks, folks. Go ahead, hate on Nickelback, they only have one song, I know, but the guitar, holy crap. I'm a sucker for awesome guitar, what can I say?

Their music is good, but I won't listen to them anymore until the singer gets better. I think his voice takes away from the music.

I find myself liking Theory of a Deadman more than Nickleback. Chad produces them and they are also from Canada. I'll refrain from flaming Canada just for today.

This is the last I have heard!!

For months, drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor have been jamming together, and they've already got the framework for 10 to 12 new songs.

"They're very much in the infant stage, where we have all these different jams and we start piecing them together," Carey said. "There are no true arrangements yet. We like to develop ideas, but we don't want to solidify anything too much until Maynard gets involved."

Tool will continue to write as a trio until mid-June, when Keenan finishes touring with A Perfect Circle. Then they'll work through the songs with their singer for another two or three months before hitting the studio, Carey said. While it's too early to get an overall read on the new songs, Carey described the material as heavier and more intense than the group's last disc, 2001's Lateralus.

In addition to rehearsing new songs from noon to 4 p.m. every day, Tool-minus-Maynard have also been putting together a DVD of footage from the Lateralus tour, which they plan to release this summer.

"It's going to be something really cool," Carey said. "It won't be just another band-playing-live video."

Tool are also editing footage of a lengthy conversation between themselves and Alex Grey, the psychedelic painter who created the artwork for Lateralus, for future release. "Alex is in the process of releasing a book on his function in the Lateralus tour with his artwork, so we're thinking we might release them as a package together," Carey said.

When he wasn't working with Jones and Chancellor, Carey spent his free evenings in his home studio writing and recording with Pigmy Love Circus, a band he originally played with before joining Tool. Following a reunion gig at the House of Blues in West Hollywood last year, Pigmy wrote the new record The Power of Beef, which Carey drummed on and produced.

"It's a good-time, straight-on power band," Carey said. "Tool is a lot more intricate and more dynamic, but there's nothing like playing full-ahead, balls-out, raw power, too, and I don't get to do that as much in Tool."

August 23 is the release date for the Lateralus album on Vinyl. The new album is due sometime in September.

If you're a sucker for awesome guitar (as am I) you should check out Sleater-Kinney's The Woods. Hendrixian riffs abound on that album.

That's like the sixth time I've plugged that album around here. I just won't be satisfied until I have someone on this site to talk about it with.

Okay, I'm back. My knee-jerk reaction is they are more like Jefferson Airplane, but they rock in a psychedelic, yet more modernish-sounding kinda way. Not bad, man! I especially like "Night Light". Oh, and "What's Mine is Yours" too..and several more.. "Wilderness" is great as well..

I bought the new Weezer CD because I've always been a big fan. I was disappointed with most of the CD but Beverly Hills is amazing, and We Are All On Drugs is good too.

My favorite new song though, has got to be Lovercall by Danko Jones. I don't know if any of you have heard it, but I LOVE this song. It's weird. It's Canadian. And Danko Jones is the name of the lead singer. But my god... its fantastic.

I'm not big on myspace, but this is the best way to get their music for free. Pay special attention to "Bloodhounds on my trail" and "Doves". When I first saw these guys live, they reminded me of early REM.The Black Angels (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=1607546&Mytoken=20050704095855)

Scroll to the bottom of the page, select player and bandwith.M-83 (http://www.contactmusic.com/new/home.nsf/webpages/m83x01x02x05) The video is cheesy and lo-budget , but bonus points if you can guess where it was filmed by the scenery.

AS, I need to check out the new Beck. Thanks for the heads up.

New member dude, if I might be forward and assuming, welcome, and nice, thoughtful picks. I will have to check these out!

Anyone else? Any takers? Truly, I created this thread for ideas about how to expand my music library. Yep, I had an ulterior motive. It'd be cool if people participated, because, well, I think you guys listen to some awesome stuff, but I run across honorable mentions here and there, but I don't remember any threads that were specifically about the coolest most recent stuff..

Get the Offspring's greatest hits CD. That album does count as "new" by the way because they added one new song into the mix.

That's not a bad idea, although a lot of my favorite songs are ones that weren't exactly "hits". You that way? I like finding songs that are really cool that never get radio play. Is Offspring's Greatest like that, or just the top played out radio songs they made?

no, the radio played the hell out of each and every one.
if you don't like the Big radio hits, then Primus is the band for you.
they made the "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" and "My Name Is Mud" songs, both made it onto the radio, but other than that they never really had any major hits.

Haha, yeah, well I kinda want a balance. If the radio WON'T play their stuff, that usually means something. Then again, maybe it is a good thing. I never actually listened to much of Primus' stuff--are they pretty cool?

The Les Claypool's Frog Brigade is pretty cool.

One of my favorite Primus albums is Misc. Debris. They do some covers, one being of the Pink Floyd song 'Have a Cigar' which I think sounds great. My only complaint of that album is that it's too short, only like 5 songs, I think.

My favorite song is 'Hamburger Train' it's on their Pork Soda album.

I have to say, my favorite song on that album would have to be My Name Is Mud I think you can tell by looking at my new signature.

I can recommend Evan Dando's stuff and although I have never seen a single episode, "The L Word" soundtrack is pretty awesome.

Call me a cheesy sell-out to commercial bands pulled together in the studio but I can't help it, I like Maroon Five.

Other than that, Stevie Nicks, Clannad (celtic group), Indigo Girls and the Bay City Rollers.

I was just kidding about that last one.

Things that must be listened to only after cranking the volume to eleven:

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club:Take Them On, On Your Own
Heartless Bastards: Stairs and Elevators
Kent Duu & Jag Doden
Cooper Temple Clause: Kick Up the Fire & Let the Flames Loose
Muse: Absolution
AC/DC: Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap, and it's not even a guilty pleasure.

I was refering to the albums, rather than individual tracks, which is why the titles were in italics rather than quotation marks (or inverted commas or whatever the hell other people call them). But if we're discussing Muse songs, "Hysteria" is the glue on the Absolution album.

jjcourtright
07-20-2005, 03:44 PM
I've heard three songs of the album, "Hysteria," "Time is Running Out," and "Stockholm Syndrome." I think that "Stockholm Syndrome" is my favorite of those, but probably just because I've heard it the least.

Ah! just thought of something!

Weezer's Pinkerton.

to good song on there is "Why bother?"

"..why bother? it's gonna hurt me,
it's gonna kill when you desert me,
this happened to me twice before,
won't happen to meANYMORE...."

the album sounds very Garage-band-ey. it's a good 'un!
i already provided the link to their site earlier in this thread.
