I went to the Carmike 5 theaters tonight in Kingsport and I saw the advertisment as I was leaving the movies (for Monster in Law, not Star Wars Episode III [my girlfriend wanted to see it together since we are planning on getting married later this year]) and they had the poster up on the outside of the womens bathroom:
WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
OMG.... I loved Willy Wonka as a child, and with Tim Burton directing and with my favorite actor of all-time, Johnny Depp, playing the lead role, this movie promises to please....
Opens July 2005.

If you're expecting this version to be anything like the original, you'll be sadly disappointed. This version is more true to the book. The book is very dark... nothing like the feel-good Gene Wilder version y'all are used to (the kids actually die in the book, they aren't just taken away, for example). Having said that, I can also admit that book is one of my favorites as well as a favorite of my sons, especially my oldest. I do, however, have a problem with a version in which I constantly want to rip Willy Wonka's clothes off and have my way with him. That's just wrong.

That's just wrong. Is it? I mean, I remember having a thing for Mary Poppins.

I really liked the book more than the original movie too. Of course, I still liked the original movie. Also, in the book, Grandpa Joe wasn't quite the scumbag waste of space he was in the original movie.

To each his own. I was talking about Johnny Depp and not Gene Wilder, btw. Just wanted to clear that up.

I'm not dissing Wilder at all. I just adore him. But I see him more as a dad figure. And however severe my Electra complex may be... it's not THAT severe.

Mine were always hidden because I kept my hair cut real short. Now that I am retired from the military and can let my hair grow out, I am sure they will start becoming more noticable.

Top 3 topics with the most threads devoted to them:

1. Jay and Silent Bob. ( or some misspelled variation thereof.)
2. Star Wars.
3. Willy Wonka.

Been here, done this.

Surprisingly this place is actually more classy than that. Which is strange, because i just called Movie Poop shoot classy. I came to this site, at first because of the phrase "Jay and Silent Bob are clownshoes." I wondered if that kinda shit was really said here. I found out it was more civilized and stayed anyway. Then I left for a bit, and now I'm back. Goddammit! I'm going off topic.

Did you not learn from the bannings that name calling is not tolerated here?

Dwight L. MacPherson

Well, getting back on topic... I am very excited about this remake.
I actually read the book as a child, then saw the original film as a youngster.
So just for the sheer nostalgia factor, I'm going to have to see this movie!

You can't be serious. I see all kinds of name calling being tolerated.

examples: fucktard, asshole, shithead, retarded pervert and thats just a few of them. Name calling is more than tolerated here, I see all kinds of non banned members doing it. So how come it's acceptable for them to do it, Do the rules not apply to everyone? I would like a answer please.

Exactly. No one here was calling you names untill you started calling us names. IF we decide to use name calling amongst ourselves, it is generally just in jest.

Also, I HATE YOU!!! (poopy, not Bamss04)
