Which has the better drummer? Me and a friend didn't have an argument, but more of a comparison of the 2, and we came to no answer. It's a tough call, that is for sure.

Neil Peart blows John Bonham away. Bonham was good for his time, really good, but Peart does things that just shouldn't be possible.

And both are far, far better than Peter Criss, if that comes up in this discussion.

I don't know their names, but Rush's drummer doesn't impress me that much. Some of their songs rely heavily on a strong beat, and while the drummer pulls it off, he doesn't do anything special or have a recognizable timbre. As for Zepplin, their music is much more complicated and oftentimes the drummer provides soft, ambiance-like sounds before taking the main beat. He seems to be much more versatile. But most Zepplin songs underuse percussion, and Rush's energetic sound comes directly from beat.

Basically, I am not overly impressed by either. This is due to the CD's I listen to for Jazz Band. Jazz musicians are always the elite compared to rock or pop.

How can you compare Jazz to Rock and Roll. That is apples and oranges, man. How can you not be impressed by either?? Next you will say Slash from Guns N' Roses is unimpressive, too.

I think that Bonham certainly revolutionized rock drumming, but Neil is a way better a drummer.

well, considering that Jazz was the pre-cursor to rock, I'd say it's a pretty safe comparrison. That, and I was never a big Rush fan.

And I'm surprised, PF. With all your strait-edge ideals, I figured you'd be all anti corporate rock. Punk sure has changed since my day, I tell you what.

Rush just has great drumming, who would let the fact that it is a little different affect the fact it sounds good. I was introduced to them by a wicked punk kid.
