Okay, probably a stupid question, but here goes: Why do the special ops clone leaders (arc troopers I think they're called) in Clone Wars wear skirts? Isn't that impractical? Looks kinda cool, though.
Because they want to feel pretty?
I don't know, were they wearing them in the movies, or just in the cartoon? Either way, just as a way to distinguish the troops and not have a bunch of identical looking guys on screen.
Darth Jaundi
05-25-2005, 07:36 PM
It was a nod to The Hidden Fortress. The skirts are meant to resemble those that ancient Samurais wore.

I used the ignore list like a Jedi would use the Force. But the temptation of the Dark Side is still there (the "View Post" button) One must let go of the need to respond. Let go of the hate. Let go of the fear or forever will the Dark Side dominate you path...

I think I was talking about Lightsaber tips earlier in the thread, and I've thought about it for a while. I always like the rounded tips, that's just what I grew up with, but these new pointed tips from ROTS are awesome, they make the lightsabers have a much more mideival look, they look like swords a lot more than they used to. Hopefully, when a final 6-disk boxed set is released, I hope they go into the OT and change the sabers to look like they did in Ep. III. (Also, Lukes saber when he's training on the Falcon is TERRIBLE!! In one scene its green, then it's blue, then white, not to mention the fact that the ignition of the blade was done terribly.)

I just got back from seeing Episode III for the 2nd time, and man, it is still SWEET! I really paid attention to the score this time, and I'll admit that I was wrong initially. It was amazing, I guess that I only noticed the old stuff the last time I saw it because that was the familiar stuff.
I think there was a continuity error, though. When Obi-wan and Vader are fighting on Mustafar, they dropped one of the lightsabers, and Vader is pushing the remaining one towards Obi-wan's neck. In one shot, they are wrestling with Obi-wan's saber, but the scene it cuts to next shows them wrestling with Vaders.
Also: New favorite battle: The last scene that is shown of the Wookie battle, where the Clone vehicle that has tons of wheels is bouncing around, shooting rockets. THAt part was NICE!

I am pretty sure it is the same saber. In a scene cut from the movie, Vader loses his saber but they never wrestle for it. They only wrestle for Kenobi's saber.

Thinking back on the Death Star, I think that the thing we see at the end of Ep. III is not the Death Star from the OT at all, but it is the prototype that is referenced in the EU. The emmitter disk seems too small to be the from same Death Star from Ep. IV.
Also, the bridge on the Star Destroyer at the end of III looked like the one from the Executor, which they are definately not on.
Did anyone else notice how the Emporer's style of saber fighting is a lot like Lukes from the end of Jedi? The way he strikes with the saber, then pushes against it over and over seemed just like the way Luke fought.

DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT!
Because the girl wasn't fully brushed up on her Star Wars epsisodes I and II, we didn't have a chance to see ROTS until last night. Thusly, I didn't read this thread at all because I had no place in the discussion. I did read the book, but again that's no basis for comparison.
So, I get up, it's going to be a great day, I want to discuss ROTS with someone that understands what they saw on the screen, and doesn't need the background information on every single character ("Where have I seen that guy?" "Jimmy Smits? NYPD Blue, West Wing." "Why's he in the movie?" *all this happening during the movie*)
Like a good regular, I don't want to rehash an old discussion, so I read thirteen pages of thread that had three pages of comprehensive discussion about Star Wars and events surrounding, and I have to weed through the banned fucker's stuff. The worst part is, I didn't even get to bash him. Oh, I had some good stuff stored up for that guy, but noooo, Robbo's a day late and a dollar short.
I still dug the appearance of Cindy Brady. "I'm telling Chrith."
So, where was I . . . Fuck, I forget. I hate everything.

Yeah, I had no problems with the movie at all. My only complaint is directed towards people in the audience. One couple sitting next to my girlfriend was talking so much that my girlfriend got up and moved to the seat on the other side of me. You think they would have gotten the hint, but they just kept on talking. Then, cell phones abound, and one dude is compelled to ANSWER it!
Unfortunately, it took a little away from the experience, so I'll probably end up seeing it again.
And granted, the complaining Carl is banned, but if this movie was only made to separate a fool and his money, it seems to have worked on him.

I thought the movie was cool. My only complaints are the same complaints I have with Lucas; too much style over substance, unmotivated actors, and occasional dialogue issues. Taking all that into context, loose ends and all, I enjoyed it very much and it only enhanced the entire Star Wars saga for me. I'll see it at least once more.

A strange thing has happened to me since seeing ROTS... I love ROTJ! I know, it is crazy but the two movies really work together. When Luke and Leia are talking about their family, I just... *sniffles*
Also, when Vader turns back... *sobbles*
Who knew? Plus, I am glad that Lucas didn't go with the twenty minute cut of the opening space battle in Revenge since it would have taken away from the coolness of the Jedi space battle. Though, I could have done with a more Wookiee action... we can always hope for the extended edition (though, I doubt it will happen... even though he added like ten minutes to Menace, or something).

Hey, it might end up in the deleted scenes, at least. I, for one, would have LOVED to see a good space battle-- that's really what the prequals were missing for me. Jedi is the only one that has a good space battle, IMO.
As for the Jedi ships. Are there parts of the ship that they can interact with by using the force? Or are they run just like any other ship.
Rb- I agree with you on the whole Wookie thing. I'd really like to see more wookie action, and meaner stuff, too. I was expecting to see a wookie rip an arm off of a battle droid and proceed bashing up other droids with the arm it ripped off. It would suit that after the Wookies revolted, there would be a lot of technology left over for them to use.

Wookiee's are not tall Ewoks. They are heavily technological. That is why Chewie is a mechanic.
Aim for less expectations and you won't find yourself so easily disappointed. ;)
And the space battle in Revenge was different from the ones in the OT and yet still great. Thankfully, Lucas only rehashed the same junk in one movie, Jedi. All of the big battles (except for in Jedi) in the movies are different.

Just in my opinion...
I went into Revenge with high expectations and left quite happy with what was presented.
When I watched The Phamtom Menace, I was thinking that he did rehash the end of Return of the Jedi and A New Hope.
The attack on the Federation Droid Controller Starship (I don't know the real name) reminded me of the attack on the Second Death Star and the original Death Star. Instead of Luke.(Lando the second time), it was Anakin that destroyed it. The battle on the surface reminded me of the battle of Endor. The Gundans(sp?) and the Ewoks armed with obsolete weapons (slings and catapults)were outnumbered against a Tech-heavy state of the art army.

When Episode I came out I was in Montgomery, AL. They hired extra ushers at the theatres just for this movie. If your pager went off, they escorted you out. If your cell phone went off, they escorted you out. If your kids acted up, they escorted you out. If you kept talking and were ruining the experience of those around you, they escorted you out. Certain movie theaters in "nice" areas (read: outside the city) had policies like that- no kids under 18 at R rated movies after 8 pm, etc.
However, at the only theater within the city limits, the Phoenix (woOt 8 Mile road), it was Thunderdome. No rules, no one watching, cleaning, bothering to thread the film properly or get you your popcorn and soda in less than 10 minutes, etc., etc.- it sucked.
Of course, it was $6.50, too. So it had that going for it. That, and I bought tickets to see Episode II there 5 minutes before the first midnight show. However, those small pleasantries hardly made up for the crap that C and I used to put up with there. (It's a shout-out to a suspected lurker.)

Signs were posted at the ticket window, at the snack counters, at the ticket taker's station, in the hallways at regular intervals to the screening rooms where Episode I was playing, and at the entrances to each screening room. All stating what the policy would be for those watching Episode I and that any violation meant they would be removed and no refunds. If you bought the ticket, you basically agreed to the rules.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Or better yet, why didn't Yoda keep him and train him?
I think the best way to think about it is this, since there was supposedly a deleted scene with Yoda and Qui-gon where Yoda spoke of misleading the Jedi, and he would accept Qui-gon as his new master. That could mean that he wanted to make sure he was going to train Luke the right way before he started, which is why the training started so late. Bu thats my opinion based on a rumor of this scene, which probably never happened.

So I finally saw it last night. It was great. Chirstensen was wonderful, and I thought his entire arch was handled very well for the most part. My only quibble was how quickly he transitioned to a point where he was ok with killing kids. I could buy him killing all of the older Jedi because he believed them to be a threat to the Republic, but I don’t see why he just wouldn’t of spoken up and said that the kids could be reeducated.
The opening dogfight sequence left me feeling kind of flat, but once they got inside the ship the show was on. Very cool to see Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting side by side not as master and student, but brothers. Also very cool to see Anakin in full-blown warrior mode. It finally drove home the fact to me that this kid was Vader. Yoda’s fight with the Emperor was fantastic, as was Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s showdown.
I didn’t really mourn Padme’s and Anakin’s relationship all that much. I just wasn’t really all that invested in it. But the death of Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s friendship tugged at my heartstrings.
The only bit of dialogue in the whole film that I really cringed during was Vader’s “Noooooo!” at the end. I would’ve prefered a visceral scream of utter agony and pain, but, really, within the context of the scene it didn’t bother me all that much.
I give it a B+.

He wasn't ok with it. I am still confused by how people think he is... just look at the guys face right before he kills them. It is not evil. Or after the Mustafar killings, he is crying. This is not a man happy with what he has done. Palpatine tells him, in his office, that this is what he must do to be able to use the dark side of the Force. See the movie again and listen for that stuff and then take it all in context.

I think I agree... some people have said that it is funny but I have never heard anyone laugh during this scene (and I have seen it a bunch in the theatre) so I think people are just full of shit. I think what they mean to say is that it is silly to them.
I think it works as intended and it doesn't bother me and the only people I think it bothers a lot are those who wanted to dislike the movie anyway so it means nothing. Could the scream have been cooler? Probably, but if you listen to Vader's other scream (in Empire) it is very similar (the Empire one may be worse). At least I laugh everytime I hear Vader go "UNGHHHAAAAHAHAGHAHAG!" :D
When I went to see Episode III, a couple of kids were dressed as Vader and Obi. They were acting out a battle with their lightsabers in front of the theater before the movie started. I thought it was cute and quite entertaining. I didn't realize how cool some of those lightsabers actually look. I think I want one. Yeah, I do. So, while it could have been classic Mad magazine/Spaceballs type humor, it falls short. Too bad because those guys usually nail it.

Well, I finally saw it. Ep III: ROTS. And that's an appropriate acronym. Oh my god, it was like sitting in a dentist's office! The storyline... predictable. The acting (what acting?) the best thing in that movie was yoda the puppet. And so this is how it ends. I'm not angry at George Lucas and his people. I'm just disappointed. Everything looked so familiar. The Republican guard/storm troopers, the republican fighting ships/Tie Fighters, the republican troop ships/Imperial Destroyers. Etc etc etc. It was so bad, I even laughed as the pregnant Padme Amidala was dying in childbirth. I'm sure this has all already been rehashed over and over, I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. Well, at least I didn't pay full price, I went to a matinee. Maybe it's just me, I'm too sarcastic and jaded to watch a movie like this with open unopinionated eyes and ears. But it all seemed so... been there, done that for over 20 years kind of thing. The last two fights were the worst. Especially since everyone knows that none of the four fighters die, so it's completely anti-climactic. Well, I guess we won't have old George to kick around anymore about this. :p Even scarier, some dude at Rolling Stone pretty much thinks the same way I did about it. And that was posted May 13th. (Great minds think alike?) I think not.

Sure, I'd tell you that, except my "little" brother just turned 40 this year. I didn't want it to suck. Like I said, I'm not the wild eyed youngster I was back in 1977 when I saw the real first Star Wars. I'm not saying it sucked for anybody else, I'm sure it didn't. But I was expecting more. Hell, even new costumes would have been okay. Something, just so it wasn't so cheap and easy. I really think George could have tried harder. He's just tired. Some directors just burn out after certain movies. For Coppola, it was Apocolypse Now. For George, I'd have to say it was SW6:ROTJ. But, you know what they say about opinions... :D

I think Padme should've opened the film with a performance of "Anything Goes" sung in chinese.

Wasn't that in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"? At least it would have been funny! The name of the club was, after all, Club Obi Wan. But that was in 1984. Maybe that's when George lost his sense of humor?

Or maybe that is when you lost your sense of fun and adventure. Or your ability to just enjoy something without needing to pick it apart. Perhaps you are a closet homosexual and you can't get over the fact that your daddy never loved you.
I am not saying that is a fact, just that it is a possibility. As much of a possibility as this movie having sucked. ;)

Nope. I didn't even write a review of the movie for a specific reason.
I don't mind someone disliking the movie. I think of it as their loss. I just like to jab back at people who jab at Lucas since so many of their kind like to do it a little too much and do so in a mean spirited way. So, I just point out how ridiculous it can be by turning the tables.
But then I am a Lucas appologist so what do I know? Skippy pointed to one really bad review, and I could just as easily link to about 100 really positive reviews. But then I don't need a critic to support my position that the movie is a great addition to the Star Wars universe.

I'm not saying Star Wars sucked. Not as a whole. I liked episodes "4-6", and even bits of episode 1. I won't talk about 2, and 3, I have to say, I really didn't like. Personally, I would have been fine with the first trilogy. It didn't need a trilogy of prequels, that's all I'm saying. Razorback's opinion is his opinion. I respect it, even if I don't agree with it.

What? I don't understand. The reason a person made that clip was because they didn't like it or thought it was perfect to make fun of it. I've been reading the posts on this thread and you defend Lucas/SW to the bitter end. Do you work at Lucasfilm? If I wasn't getting payed to defend it, I wouldn't bother.

Please do. Or, learn to follow along with the discussion before you take a shot at someone. Or was your little jab at my defending of Lucas meant to be something other than an insult to the integrity of my original point, to which you so skillfully missed?

Alright, I've seen enough. Enough of calling each other "stupid" because someone got minor details wrong or has a differing opinion. And let's all stop making this place so discouraging to new people with the bile and name-calling, too.
If you want to talk Ep. III more, start a new thread and converse without the name-calling. This one's closed.
