For those who didn't read about it at News Askew or elsewhere:

Some wonderful news comes to us today as networks begin to announce their schedule for new and renewed programs for the Fall of 2005. "My Name is Earl", starring Jason Lee, is the only new sitcom to make it to NBC's fall premeire schedule (others come midseason). The show will air at 9:00 PM on NBC Tuesdays, which also indicates it'll be on the edgier side of things (the pilot's script certainly reads that way). We're excited to have a dude who got his acting start in a View Askew production starring in a prime time show for the very first time. Some blurbs and article links on the show and NBC's schedule:

NEW YORK TIMES
"...They were watching a seven-minute clip assembled from the pilot "My Name Is Earl," a half-hour comedy starring Jason Lee about a ne'er-do-well who wins a lottery and vows to make amends to everyone he's ever offended.

Had the producers of the program been there, they would surely have been elated that the three people gathered around an editing console - Kevin Reilly, president of NBC Entertainment; Jeff Zucker, president of NBC Universal Television Group, and John D. Miller, chief marketing officer of the television group - were laughing, heartily and continuously."

CNN

"NBC said Monday that it will introduce six new series in September, including only one comedy: "My Name is Earl," featuring Jason Lee ("Chasing Amy") as a downtrodden lottery winner."

ST LOUIS POST DISPATCH

"...The comedy addition is "My Name Is Earl," with Jason Lee as a loser who decides to right all his life's wrongs after winning a fortune in the lottery. Jamie Pressly plays Earl's wife in the sitcom from Greg Garcia ("Yes, Dear")."

Good question. I'm having a hard time finding what any projected schedule is going to be. If it came on TV with the schedule now, there's nothing it would compete against for me.

Isn't Scrubs on Tuesdays at 9pm or did they change that?

Nevermind, it's the same network so they must've changed it.

Unless they move it or cancel, it'll be up against Blind Justice on ABC. I like the show despite the sloppy writing and the whole blind guy with a gun thing. It has good characters.

Suh-weet! My Name is Earl will lead into The Office, which will mean a full hour of hilarity.
I just hope they can get Les Claypool to do the themesong.

The Amazing Race gets pretty big numbers, doesn't it?

I watch it, but i think that the demo for the 2 shows isn't really the same (plus this year is going to be Family Race, with family units racing around the globe. Nothing kills a good reality show than throwing in some kids, so i predict ratings slide for AR)

I was under the impression that they were looking for families, but I that all family members must be over 18...
I think I'll have to Tivo one of them. I HAVE to watch amazing Race...
If only I could have gotten MY family to enter with me, but C'est La Vie...

I think UPN is looking for people who are addicted to reality shows right now. :D

There are four major network stations as of right now.... CBS, ABC, NBC, and UPN.... of the four UPN has consistently ranked last throughout thier existence (with the exception of Thursday nights when they do tremendously well in the Neilson ratings with the WWE's SmackDown!) have always been in last place.... they are not neccessarily trying to just go with reality shows.... rather they try to dabble in all sorts of entertainment ventures, they are trying to figure out anything that works with this fledgeling network.

Yeah, butr he quoted FanGirl, so it is viable to make it look as if he was calling her a guy in an attempt to get her to go off at him...right? ;)

I was able to see the pilot episode of My Name is Earl last night...

For 25 minutes, I couldn't stop laughing. Jason Lee is fantastic and Ethan Supplee was great as well- he's slimmed down a bit, it seems. Every pilot episode I've ever watched left something to be desired- the actors weren't comfortable with their roles or each other, but this show... right out of the gate, every cylinder is firing. If NBC blows it, I hope to God someone else will pick it up.

Hillarious show. Keep an eye out for it. Until then, I'm going to throw in Drawing Flies...

YEAH! Now this is something I can get into. An interesting concept. Who hasn't dreamed, at one time or another, of winning the lottery? Plus, the added bonus of Jason Lee. Sweet!

Thanks for the heads-up!

Out of Practice: Monday, 9:30 pm/ET on CBS
A family of doctors find that despite their similar professions, they have little in common. This comedy stars Christopher Gorham, Stockard Channing and Henry Winkler.

That could be cool.

Yeah, isn't it awesome? I was so surprised that NBC went for it... doesn't seem like a typical "safe" NBC show at all. It was so famned funny. It really felt like a 22-minute Coen brothers movie to me. Ethan Suplee was awesome, too.

This and Chris Rock's show have both given me hope that new sitcoms won't all suck.
