View Full Version : I miss Tv,,,

I really miss TV, or What TV was going to be. Remember Buffy the Vampire Slayer? What a good show. Or how about Seinfeld? What happened? I'm not talking about "Reality TV" I mean the rest of TV.
Joey is still on? Fran Derschere is getting another series?! Why is Everybody Loves Raymond even on anymore? Their are only a HANDFULL of good shows on and alot of them risk being cancelled or ending for no reason (Angel for example).

Really I am just bummed out, I just finished watching the last Season of Buffy, and I have nothing to look forward to. Angel is over, Arressted Devolpment wont make it (sadly) Star Treks going, Scrubs is good but not enough to hold me other, the Simpsons suck mostly, South Park hasnt done it for me since I was 18, Dont have HBO (SHAKES FIST TO THE SKY) Maybe I should just turn off the TV and move on...:-( Read a book, cry myslef to sleep something like that.

There is hope that good tv exists. Lost and House are good solid shows, but the newest scifi goodness is Battlestar Galactica. If it's this good now, think how it will be in 2 years since everyone one know scifi shows don't hit stride until then.

Well, at least TBS picked Ed for reruns. After watching a few episodes, I can remember why I got so mad after hearing it was cancelled. Damn fine show, plus it had Michael Ian Black.

JK
03-09-2005, 09:48 PM
Yeah, airing Ed is cool, but we only run it on the East/West feeds... it doesn't air on the local feed. So the viewers in Atlanta get shafted. Except for me- I'm usually the one the who inputs the show. Muhahhahaha!

But for the most part, TV is a vast, empty, heartless wasteland. The occassional oasis is becoming harder to find.

Speaking of Sci-Fi, don't forget about Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis. They are both excellent shows. Their Friday night line-up is Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, then Battlestar Gallactica. All in a friggin' row!! Wooohooooo!

It is too bad that UPN put Enterprise on Friday nights opposite Atlantis. I really like it and it is tough deciding which one to watch. i normally watch Atlantis, as Enterprise will repeat on Saturday evenings here.

Is TBS even broadcast over the air on 17 anymore? I'm surprised that the East Broadcast is different from the Local feed.

As far as the state of TV, i think there is hope. Reality is in decline, with the exception of a few shows, and scripted shows are on the way back up being lead by Lost and Desparite Housewifes.
If you are looking for a great Sci-Fi fix, look no farther than Battlestar, and if like me, you aren't home on fridays to catch the show, it comes on again on Monday nights.

I'm going to admit to liking Joey. I didn't watch the last 2 season's of Friends, but it's got a total different feel from that show. Sure it's no Fraiser, but it's not Three's a Crowd either. Right now my Thursday nights consist of watching Joey, playing PS2 and back for ER, then bed. fun.

if only those damn dvd publisher's were as thick as TV execs, then box set's wouldn't cost so much and you'd have a lesser problem.

There isn't a single show on network television that I watch with any regularity whatsoever. I'm either watching VH-1's "I Love the (insert decade here) or the Golf Channel. I am addicted to the Big Break III and have fallen madly in love with Jan. I used to watch the West Wing, but I don't even do that anymore. If the TV isn't tuned to one of the first two channels mentioned, I'm watching a movie or the History Channel.
Watching a program with any sort of regularity is just too much of a commitment for me. I'm perfect for you, Zens. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Yep- Channel 17 and Digital 20.

I've missed Gattlestar Galatica for the last four weeks and it sucks, missing it. I never remember to set up the VCR. In a few weeks I'm getting a DVD/HHD recorder and I gaurantee it'll be programmed in from that point on. As far as other shows, every week night, it's Spike from 7 to 9- double dose of CSI. Any other time, I'm watching the History Channel or Discovery. We just had a bunch of people jump ship and go over to Discovery, so my coworkers get nervous when I start talking about it! But for the most part though, I don't really pay that much attention to the TV anymore. It's mainly something to use with the PS2.

No daggits, yet. Boxey has made a few appearances, but, thankfully, he has not stowed-away on any important missions.

I have to admit, I'm fairly happy with the TV, this year. There's finally something to watch on Mondays ("24"), there are some great new shows ("Lost", "Veronica Mars", "Battlestar Gallactica", "House") and some returning shows are still going strong ("Alias", "Carnivale", "Monk", "Stargate", "Law and Order", "Arrested Development"). There's also some great animation to be found late at night on the Cartoon Network, as well as the stellar "Justice League Unlimited" and "Teen Titans". Oh, yeah, "Mythbusters" continues to rock on Discovery.

I am having a love affair with Teen Titans. I love it so.
Has anyone seen the ep where Beast Boy gets a job? Its classic.

Dave
03-14-2005, 12:22 PM
I can't understand why 'Toon plays Teen Titans agian and again, but only plays Justice League once. I never see that show.

And speaking of not seeing shows. Last Night we had some thunderstorms in the Birmingham, Anniston, Tuscaloosa Area, so you know what that means. The weathermen got to have their severe weather orgasms all over their Doppler 1 millions. Every Network inturupted Primetime Programing so the weather dudes could show where the lightning strikes were in Florance or the advancing wall of straightline winds or whatever. Dammit, i hate the weather!!!
Just put the weather map in the corner of the screen and run a crawl!

I've never seen the new batman show, I feel like I am not missing anything.

Also what happened to the JLA show? Cartoon Network seems to be becoming more Adult Swim oriented lately, not a bad thing, just I miss Powerpuff girls.

i've caught the new Batman show, and it's not for me, but i could see how kids would like it (and lets face it when i was a kid, i liked Laff-a-lypics so kids got no real taste.)

Omaru

I downloaded the first episode, and much like (2003) spider-man, I felt this new incarnation inferior to the 70's and 90's cartoons

Jason_Brown
03-15-2005, 05:50 PM
There was a Batman cartoon in the '70's?

Dave

You don't remember the Batman/Tarzan adventure hour?

Omaru
03-18-2005, 01:01 PM
maybe it was the 60's or maybe I just dreamt they made a cartoon with artwork similar to the opening sequence, or maybe I was thinking of Scooby doo meets batman, or maybe I was thinking of that episode of TAS where the kids tell the stories, one parodying 60's batman and the other paying homage to the dark knight returns. Other than that I'm stumped.

It was indeed the 70's, just wondering how you think it could be better than the new show. Of course, I haven't seen an episode, but this show, phew, it wasn't that good.

I found Batman Beyond to be vastly superior to this new breed of batman. But obviously, that's strictly my opinion.

Jason_Brown
03-18-2005, 07:00 PM
Agree. The new show isn't bad, but it definitely comes in third, after Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.

Matt1
03-20-2005, 12:15 AM
The only episode of the new Batman show that I've seen involved Bats donning a mechanized armored suit to defeat Bane. Didn't really do it for me. Although, I think I'm probably too much in love with the Timm/Dini version to ever give anyone else a fair shot.

As for the TV landscape in general, my own thoughts echo the consensus here: most TV is crap, but there are a few oases such as Lost, Battlestar, JLU, etc. Also, the fact that my own thoughts are so similar to everyone else's here is really crushing to my sense of individualism. At first the like-mindedness of the crowd here is what drew me in, but now it is just disturbing. It’s like we’re the Borg or something. I order you all to like other things then the things I like. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Yeah, I saw that as well. I'll be giving it a look.

So does anyone know the deal with Carnivale? At first I thought the faster pace this season had been part of the plan all along, but at the rate they've been going I don't see how they're going to have any story left to tell. Did HBO just give them this season to wrap it all up?

Sigh. Anyway, did anyone else catch Brother Justin "quoting" Jerry Falwell last night? Classic.

Why couldn't they have put it on MTV? I don't watch MTV since they don't play music videos any more, so that network would have been great for it. There wouldn't have been a chance in Hell I would have stopped on it, thinking: "Hey! This seems interesting.", then having to run from the room screaming after I realized what it was.

Oh, did I leave out the part where I am gouging my eyes out with a pencil?

Rico

TV sucks these days.

The only shows I'd find worth watching would be Battlestar Galatica, Scrubs, Arrested Development, the new Family Guy episodes (unless they screw that up), Teen Titans and... ehh, I've got nothing else!

I've simply stopped watching TV altogether unless I'm at a friend's house.

And yes, I agree about the new Batman cartoon sucking. I've only seen one episode but that was enough to convince me of how it was. The episode I saw features catwoman (who looks nothing like the catwoman we know) and batman fighting some crime family. All I remember is seeing Batman fight off a bunch of ninjas (who are apparently the most common enemies he faces in this show) and then get his butt handed to him by catwoman. Not only did she wipe the floor with him, she also snagged his toolbelt and ran off with it.

They have turned Batman into a ninja-fighting witless wimp. By the way, the drawing style reminds me of that one show Jackie Chan had called "Jackie Chan adventures" or something of the sort, I'm sure the reason why it looks so similar is because it's the same artists drawing it.

Looks like they just replaced Jackie Chan with a badly drawn Batman for this one.

Speaking of MTV, does anybody know what the hell happened to MTV2. A year or so ago, I loved MTV2, they played videos most of the time. We decided to save money by ditching all the channels above 100, which sadly included MTV2. Now, they moved MTV2 down below 100...and it is terrible. It is just like MTV, never any videos, just shows.

Dave
04-07-2005, 03:13 PM
I don't know, we don't get it anymore either but i think i read somewhere where the videos got moved to MTVU or something. Fuse is also lessened the amount of videos they show now too.

I know how you feel about Buffy the Vampire Slayer...but I do have two shows for you to watch, both on FX one is Shield and the other is Nip/Tuck....and if it is still on, I don't get local chanels, Tru Calling on Fox. Also don't despair, there is always re-runs or buy the series of your favorite classics.

I have regular cable here, so we don't get MTV2...thank God. I can only handle not watching one of them at a time.

It has gotten so bad with MTV, that even my 14 year old daughter doesn't watch it any more. With the exception of an occasional 'Pimp My Ride'. Now, you know it is bad when they start driving away their target audience.

It's called Trial by Jury, it's on Friday nights, and it ain't half bad! It is more from the perspective of the attorneys and judges and the actual jurors involved- I love that they pretty much universally portray defense lawyers as scumbags. They have promised tie-ins with the other 3 Law and Orders- they are milking that cow for all it is worth, and I, for one, love it! Some of the best writing on TV is on Law and Order.

So about Missing TV....

Did anyone catch what could be the last Arrested Development last night? It was frigging great. So many surprises. plus the return of Charlie Brown music, kissing cousins and Franklin Comes Alive!!!

Also, i just hear the news that this is the last year for Monday Night Football on ABC after this year it goes to ESPN. Any problems with that? It was the longest running show on any network, i believe.
