There ain't nothing like getting an 8.31% raise right before you go home for the day. What did that little stoner fuck say? Boo-yah?

When I figured up how much that translates into after shift-differential, overtime, and shift leading differential, I can't help but laugh... I can hear my mother's voice, telling an eight-year old boy that he watches too much television and nothing good will ever come from it...

50K a year to watch TV...

F*cking right, "Boo-yah"!!!

I think we are hiring... If not, we should be. I wound up covering for four people Saturday night.

Seriously though, if anyone is interrested in doing what I do, it's a really cool job. A lot of hard work at times, but the working enviroment is just outstanding. Most of what I do involves monitoring the on-air signal, log editing, commercial ingest, and program prep.
*When you're monitoring the broadcast, you're watching TV! Of course, there's more to it than that- monitoring audio/video levels/channels, CC, V-chip, commercial hit times, element durations, and anything at all that ain't suposed to be there. When the automation is humming along, you have an easy night, but when something breaks down, you're definitely in for some fun...
*Log editing is basically sitting there and comparing the paper log to the playlist we use in automation. That's not too bad because invariable, someone will come and bug you.
*Commercial ingest is just that- you load commercials and promos and packaging off the tape and into the servers that we play everything off of. (I've turned that into an art form /forums/images/icons/grin.gif )
*Program prep can be the most tedious- finding tapes, the correct tapes and making sure all the data is input and ready to be cached onto a server is sometimes an effort worthy of Colossus, but we get it done.
*And of course, there are a hundred other litle things we do on a daily basis that we often wonder about. But if all that sounds fun exciting, please apply! You'd be starting out as a VRP- (Vacation Relief Pool) Full-time with benefits- the only drawback is you're not tied to a specific network (basically, you're homeless) and your schedule is set month to month. The plus side, if you kick ass you'll be hired to a specific network really quick. Starting base salary for a VRP is around 30K a year. When you go to a network, the average increase is 5k. I've only been at Turner for a year and I've already hit a base 37K. Sixteen hours of OT a month and shift-differential for over-nights pushes me to the 50K range... not bad.
Ideally, they're looking for people with 2+ years of master control experience, but we've hired people with nine months experience as a PA. Any kind of technical background in TV is a definite thing to have for what I do- I had six years in TV when I came here to Atlanta, three in control and three as a photog/editor but like I said, a couple of people I work with have a LOT less experience. It has a lot to do with who else applies at the same time.

Seriously, if any of you guys are interrested, I'll check around and let you know when we start hiring. Of course, there are hundreds of other jobs at the Turner site, take a look around. (http://turner.com/careers/index.html)
