...Or, "How I went from being a mildly annoyed employee, to being fully disgruntled and about to go postal. "
I had assumed we'd get Friday off...
I just found out this morning that those gohldarn, ass-mouthed, shitty-breathed, mothra fawkers are making me work Christmas Eve ! " Oh no " , they say ," You don't have to work it... unless you want your Christmas bonus." They could've given our bonuses to us last payday , sure, but then they wouldn't have been able to fuck us out of a NATIONAL [CENSORED] HOLIDAY ! I'm too angry to fully articulate my feelings at this moment. But what I'm absolutely sure of, is this : Come Jan. 1 , I'm finding a different job.

You know what our Christmas bonus is? A gift card for our store. They give us money that can only go back into the store. So, aside from being paid in bags of coffee, any reward I get goes right back to the store; i.e. nothing I can put into a bank account.
The last TV station I worked for, we got a station shirt as our Christmas bonus... It was a nice shirt, but... a shirt?!?!?
This year will be a lot better. We don't get the bonus until the end of February, but none the less, it'll be a lot better than a shirt... about seven hundred times better. So I really can't complain this year but believe me, I do feel your pain- we only got the shirt if we showed up the day they were giving them out.

We don't even get the gift card. We get extra hours available to us. They also took away the store Christmas party, according to our main manager, who we don't trust. Last year she didn;t have a very good time at the party.

I'll never forget going in at two in the morning on the 23rd and emerging again at 2 p.m. The massive company I worked for backed up a tractor-trailer and gave us all a frozen turkey-in-a-box the size of a starved chicken. I can almost see the faces of some the others as they handed them out. "what the ..."
When I cooked the piece of crap it smelled so bad we had to vacate the house for an hour. I guess the dogs liked it though. God that thing stunk.

Whats a bonus??? We were just informed that everyone is on call over the 4 day weekend in case of bushfires. Which means NO ALCOHOL. How the hell am I supposed to get through all that family BS without booze?

Well, it could be worse.............I have Friday off, BUT I work on Christmas. This is after I worked Thanksgiving and I work New Year's day. No Holiday pay either. Just so someone can have freakin' bread on the day after a holiday.
This year I just pretend I am not an American and just have a nice Boxing Day. As soon as I figure out what the hell Boxing Day is. I think it involves Sugar Ray Leonard.

We get Boxing Day. But we still have to work Christmas Eve. And no Thanksgiving. I discussed Boxing Day with ratm1966 the other day - I was telling him how even though we celebrate it none of us had any idea what it was in aid of. My theory that it was the day you bashed up family members after the horror that was Christmas. Using the power of Google he informed me it had something to do with an old tradition when employers boxed gifts for their workers on the day after Christmas.
So there you go! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
EDIT: Speaking of Bastards, which one of you bumped me down to 3 stars? Come on 'fess up! Not very christmassy /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

All I knew was that a few years ago, it was the day I saw "Ali" with Will Smith. Although I knew it was a different meaning of "boxing", it was a good enough pun to get a bunch of friends to go to the film and have a good release from the pressure of family. This year I do not think it will happen, but I have invited some friends to come over and watch "Rocky"!

My old job would always schedule the Christmas party on Christmas Eve. "Hey everyone...we're closing at 3:00 for the Christmas party."
Fantastic. Instead of going home early, we all wound up being in the store until 7:00. Not exactly festive.
At least we got cash for a Christmas bonus. Not a lot, but as my boss at that job liked to say, "it's better than a sharp stick in the eye."

The worst Christmas bonus that I've ever gotten, aside from not getting a Christmas bonus, was two $5 King Soopers gift certificates. $10 to a grocery store that I don't shop at. Whoopity-doo.
My current employer is great. I got $250 cash last week. I'ma gonna buy me some new tires.

Thanx , that helps put things in perspective.
To Foolscrow, Shouldn't you be posting under your other identity ? And no, I don't hate God. I dislike hippocritical a$$holes missing the entire point of Gods' word and using scripture to spread hatred and deny rights to people born different than them.

I'm pretty sure that is the mission statement of the religious right.

Well I wouldn't go that far. I Just think that people who use religion ( any religion ) to divide people instead of unite them, has missed the point.
My faith in God remains, my faith in humanity to correctly interpret "the word" and act accordingly , has faltered.

A few jobs back we would usually get 2 weeks paid vacation for Xmas. Then one year they decided to change things the Thursday before we all left. They decided to give everyone one week paid and the second week would depend on your "grade." "A" employees would receive the whole second week of pay plus a little more. "B" employees would receive just the second week's pay. "C" Employees would receive less than the second week's pay. Anything lower than that would receive none of the seconds week pay. Now the kicker is they wouldn't tell you what your paycheck would be until it was directly deposited into your account while you were gone. It was completely political. And we found out later that "shockingly" no one got an "A". It was bull to change things with no notice. A lot of people were counting on that money.
The following year they decided that system didn't work so they gave everyone an unpaid hiatus for a month instead. They did it in such a way that you couldn't collect unemployment and if you took another job they would consider that as a conflict of interest and have grounds to fire you. Ah, the Christmas spirit. Thankfully, I don't work for these people anymore.

Thanks for the cred.
I really don't have anything to complain about this Christmas, as once again, the snow came through for me on 23 Dec. It isn't much, (Hey! This is southern New Mexico!) but it is still snow and will probably stay around until at least Christmas.
