View Full Version : When I grow up I wanna be a .....
I'm just curious as to when you were younger, what you all wanted to be when you got older. Also if it has changed from what you'd like to be now.

[/ QUOTE ] Principal, or a caterpillar.
I wanted to be a cartoonist or comic book artist. I'm a graphic designer right now, which isn't too far off. Comic book illustration is still on the horizon.

I wanted to drive trains. A railroad engineer.
I worked for eBay for a long time and now I'm applying for graduate school and not working.

Up until my senior year of high school I wanted to be a PhD parapsychologist with a second PhD in Quantum Mechanics. Then I spoke with someone in the field at Duke University about actual employment and that changed to wanting to produce movies. I swear to god that is all true.
Now I want to work somewhere in the field of comic books.
Although, my desire for world domination remains the same.

I wanted to be an adult when I grew up, but I've since abandoned that hope. I'm ill-equiped to pursue my other dream, a career in porn, so now I'd just like to be a writer.

I'm still 20 I dont know what I wanna be.
Sadly it looks like grooming dogs pays more than being a teacher, also I get to keep my Social Secruity unlike teachers or cops.
I could be a cop, but grooming pays WAY more than the police. Also less risk, better hours.
I still wish I could take photos for a living.

I'm a regular Forrest Gump. "I've worn lots of shoes..."
I do remember as a child, my mother complained about me watching too much TV. I replied that it would be cool to get paid to watch television and she rolled her eyes and said "they don't pay people to watch TV..."
Yes, mom- they do. And they pay very well... /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
I still wanna to be writer...

I toyed with president, pilot, teacher, and engineer. After seeing Ghostbusters and Back to the Future, my options became a little less grounded, and I wanted to be either a paranormal researcher or a time traveller.
More importantly, I became aware of the possibilities of fiction, film, effects, acting, directing, all of it. By age 10 I had favorite directors. From then on out, I was going to retire on my creativity one way or another.

I had no idea what I wanted to be when I was a kid, and now, half-way through college, I still don't know what I want to do.
I still don't know either. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
My problem is not being able to decide on one thing. There are too many different things I want to be. Some of them being: A vet, artist-painter, photographer, racecar driver, bassist, singer, detective...and the list goes on and on.

Paula Poundstone said it best when she said that grown-ups are always asking kids about what they want to be when they grow up because....they're looking for ideas.

Up until 7th grade I wanted to be a brain surgeon. Then nothing. After really discovering Physics in college(as a Biology student) I decided that I wanted to be Einstein. That's not working out so well, so I'm shooting for Vice President. Then hopefully I can ride that job all the way to President. Then you will all bow before my wonderful power.

Right now, I am Safty Inspector for Target Stores who was just hit by a drunk forklift driver. Can we say Irony?

Holy shiznit...me too!
I told my parents that I wanted to be a racecar driver when I was like 9...their response, and I quote..."but that's so dangerous, what would we do if you got killed?"
Seriously, an adult (allegedly) asked a nine year old that question.

Ouch, that's harsh. They probably could've coaxed you diferently, if that was their intentions.
I haven't pursued the racecar dream, mainly because of a reoccurring nightmare I had when I was younger of being squished.

1. Starfighter Pilot (T-65 prefered)
2. For two weeks when I was in college, I took part in a dream analyseeze experiment. I got paid forty bucks a day for ten days, to sleep. TO SLEEP. Okay , so I wasn't in it for the money...but talk about a dream job. Gigs like that, don't come often.
3. Psychiatrist. I wanted to council troubled teens. And take advantage of them.
4. Nobel Peace Prize winning Novelist, whose extraneous verbosity has enlightened the world causing a new era of peace and prosperiety for all mankind, while appearing on Jeoaprdy with Chuck Palahniuk to the left of me, Stephen King to the right.
