So yeah, The big releases this week are Dodgeball and Bourne Supremacy.
The Big questions!
Should I buy Dodgeball? Is it worth it? I only ask because I have not seen it.
Bourne Supremacy? But it now or wait for the trilogy release. With 1500 hours of new scenes. Tell me my poop shoot friends, what are you doing?

You're going to buy a movie you haven't seen? At least rent it first.

<font color="purple">Dodgeball is a quarky comedy. It is really funny, but not as funny as some comedies. It is kind of Old School funny or Starsky and Hutch without Snoop Dogg. It is good. I liked it.
Bourne Supremacy is awesome. Better than the first one, and more Damon action. Buy it!</font color>

I already know someone who will buy it from me if I don't like it but I'd still lose money, which is why I asked if it was worth paying for.

Yeah, I saw Bourne Supremacy. It was great. So buy it now? Don't wait a year or two and buy the trilogy?

Did China_Dill take over your account? When did common sense and thriftiness become bad things?
Let that guy buy it and borrow it from him.

I'm gonna let the China_Dill comment slide as a joke.
Let me Explain this very simple question that I asked at the start of this thread. Is Dodgeball worth buying? In other words out of all the people on this site who have seen this movie who would buy it. Then I can get an idea on whether or not I might buy it. Very simple. Really, I was just trying to get off a night off newbie bashing and actually start a thread where we could talk about something other than 12 year olds.
I come to this place for three reasons.
1- I enjoy the people on here. Even you.
2- I honestly have found a great group of folks who generally have the same taste in movies. What the majority of you guys like..I like, and so on.
3- This place has some great reading. Lots of fun.
So, The "common sense" behind that question is right there in reason number two.

Ok lets see.... I really liked Dodgeball and if only for Jason Bateman, I would buy it. (BTW We are finally getting Arrested Development here, albeit at 10.30pm - Funny stuff)
Re Bourne Supremacy, I liked it for the most part (except for the editing) and would probably add it to my collection but I wouldn't wait for the 3 set edition.
Weren't there five or seven Jason Bourne books?

I like Dodgeball. I've watched it 4 times or so and would watch it again. I guess that means I think it's worth owning. Smurfy summed it up pretty well.
The Bourne Supremacy is a great flick. If I had to choose between the two, it would be Bourne for sure.
I have a question. What criteria do you use to purchase a DVD?
Is it a movie you love? One you will watch over and over? a cool collectible figure that comes with? Do you just want to have a larger DVD collection than Netflix?
I tend to buy something if i think i'll watch it more than once, or if i'm really into all the stuff surrounding it (see Star Wars and Bond DVDs).

I know my DVD collection is paled in comparison by the collections of other people here, but I have about 200. 90 of them are in booklets and my entertainment center is still completely full.
My criteria are:
1. Repeat viewings. If I know I'll watch it more than twice, I'll buy it.
2. If I feel like they are artistically iconic. I may not watch Last of the Mohicans, Requiem for a Dream, 2001: A Space Odyssey, or Pee-Wee's Big Adventure several times, but they need to be in the collection.
Damn, that leaves a lot of ground open for me. I have DVD's to buy.

Knights of the Old Republic 2 comes out today. I would spend your money on that.

Good thing you don't spend his money. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
What about multiple copies of the same flick? Are some of you guys completists, and have to have every version? and can you explain it for me. I've got a friend who bought every copy of the Lord of the Rings that came out. I just can't understand it. I told him if he would just have some self control and wait for the Extended version to come out (which is all he really wanted anyway) he would save himself a ton of cash.

1 version. Like, when X-Men 1.5 came out, I gave away the first DVD. The only DVD's I would buy multiple versions of would be the Star Wars flicks; I would buy the originals and SE's.

I bought both versions of all of the LOTRs. I will also buy all of the versions of Kill Bill. My philosphy is if the movie is different I don't mind buying it more than once because sometimes you're in the mood to watch a particular version. I will not buy it a second time if the packaging is different and new features are added. That to me is a waste because you only watch those features once and therefore can just rent it.

I may not watch...2001: A Space Odyssey...several times

<font color="purple">See, I bought Clerks on dvd a long time ago and when Kevin reissued Clerks for the 10th Anniversary, I bought that one as well not knowing there would be a 10th Anniversary version.
Same with Trainspotting. I own the one with just the movie and a couple special features and now own the one loaded with special features. Why? Well, because I love the movie and I wont give away the first copy I own for my own personal reasons.
As for the LOTR goes, I own all three and own two of the extended versions. It isn't a waste of money to me because you are getting two versions of the film which, in my opinion, makes two different movies, both equally good just one is longer.</font color>

Really? I've watched 2001 like 3-and-a-fraction times. My repeat viewings have come when I find out a friend hasn't seen it; It's a must watch. It's just too slow, monotone, and cerebral for me to throw in as eye or ear candy. The Big Lebowski is a different story altogether. At this point, that movie is actually catching up to Die Hard with viewings, which didn't seem possible.

Mosting Vewings.... Hummm?
This is a good one.
I'd have to say that as of right now, I watch The Cutting Edge a lot. Love that movie. I watch Love Actually a lot. Yeah. Tis the season.
But I think the movie that has the most view's in my collection has to be Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, Everytime I get drunk, on it goes. Really, I watch all the Python movies a lot.
I have to say I feel the same way about 2001.
Mall Rats & The Princess Bride are movies I frequent the most.
I've seen the Big Lebowski once and didn't really care for it. I don't even remember what it's about.
The Die Hard movies are among my favs.

I'd pay to own the DVD of Dodgeball. Besides seing it twice in the theater, I had a home copy as a placeholder until the DVD came out. First time I was only sort of into it, but it gets funnier every time I watch it. After a half dozen viewings, I love it.
Die Hard, Ghostbusters, Raising Arizona, Blues Brothers, Christmas Vacation... so many movies I've seen too many times to even know how many times I've seen them. In college we spent a semester watching Goodfellas, Gump, and Full Metal Jacket at least once a week. Quote along, point stuff out, make jokes, or just leave them as background.

<font color="purple">This month I've watched the following more than five times:
'Kill Bill Vol. 1'
'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' (which Netflix is never going to get back the rate I am going. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif)
'Shaft' (Sam. Jackson version)
'Moulin Rouge'
'Clerks.'</font color>

this month I've seldom watched movies (okay we're 7 days in) and I have about 8 to see, not including the holiday roster. so I have my work cut out for me eventually. But at the moment I'm not used to working so it seems like 40 mins have passed when it's closer to 3 hours. That really sucks.

As do I. My pain meds have me very emotional for some reason, very strange. I jumped on the defensive a bit to quickly. Sorry, I really should not have jumped all over you like that. The only real down side to message boards is that its hard to tell the emotion behind whats posted.
