I was at Target last night and I picked up a copy of 'Hairspray' on dvd (it is one of my favorites). While picking it up, I looked and it was in the musical section and I was like, what, this is not a musical. So, I was explaining to a couple of my friends that I was with why it wasn't a musical and one of the target workers chimed in and said, it is a total musical. And I was like, dude, not it wasn't. So, I am asking you people, since it clearly says comedy on the box, but people consider it a musical, what do you all think.

Musical.
Sorry, I haven't seen it. I've seen Hair and that's a musical, but I haven't seen Hairspray yet.

I've never actually seen the movie, but I know high schools have used it as their musical, so my guess is that it could be either/or. The truth is that so few movies actually have the characters sing, so it doesn't take much music to make a musical. The South Park movie was a musical, even if it seems more like a comedy.

The problem is, it's a musical and a comedy. It isn't as much of a musical as its stage counterpart, but still somewhat musical in nature. I'm surprised high schools have done it. THe rights for something that new must be expensive as all get out.

Danger, they recently turned the movie into a musical which is said to be quite good.
'Team America' was more of a musical than 'Hairspray' was.

I'm from Baltimore. I've met John Waters on more than one occasion, and been an extra in one of his films. I know about the Broadway musical, and my comment was that the Broadway musical is more thoroughly a musical than the original source film. I didn't put it that way, since everyone seems to think I didn't know. But I... I forgot my point. I knew... I KNEW!!!
