I talked to "Turk" the other night.
Fans of Scrubs who've caught the latest episodes will recall that the show which aired a couple of Tuesdays ago (Nov. 9th; the first of two that guest-starred ER's Julianna Margulies) had a sub-plot where Dr. Chris Turk, played by Donald Faison, changed his cellphone number to "1-916-CALL-TURK". Usually these phone numbers mentioned in films or TV shows aren't working numbers, because of issues in years past where the writer made up some number and it turned out to be a real number of an innocent bystander, who got a ton of weird phone calls as a result. Not this time.
The phone # turns out to be real, all right, but it goes to a phone that stays on the set where Scrubs is filmed. Calling it, as it turns out, will usually get you to a voicemail message recorded by Donald Faison, playing in character as Turk. In the message, you are told that the show - which currently airs on NBC's Tuesday at 9:30 Eastern, 8:30 Central, is going to move in the near future to 9PM, 8PM Central. Not quite yet, but soon, so it's good to get that heads-up. The message also urges fans to head on over to PCAvote.com, where voting for the People's Choice Awards is going on right now. Scrubs is nominated, and so is Zach Braff ("J.D.") for both his role on this show, and for his recent film role. "Turk" wants you to make sure you cast your votes there. Unfortunately, no mention of DVDs is made on the voicemail.
However, every blue moon the phone will be answered by somebody from the cast or crew of the show. How cool is that? I've gotten reports of people who have talked to writers, to creator Bill Lawrence, to actors for recurring characters like Robert Maschio ("Todd") and Sam Lloyd ("Ted"). A few have reported talking to Zach Braff. Many of these reports mentioned that the cast/crew member talked to said that DVDs were on-the-way. So I gave it a try myself the other night, and "Turk" himself - Donald Faison - answered the phone!
Faison was extremely nice, and we talked for several minutes about the show, and I had to tell him how much I've been enjoying it. After filling him in about this site and how I'm the News Director here, I asked him to tell me about DVDs. He responded that it's accepted as a fact among the people who work at the show that Scrubs is coming to DVD in the first part of next year, but says that noone among the cast or crew has recorded any interviews or commentaries so far for extras. He felt sure that this will happen, though, and indicated that everyone there is eager to see these discs. We chatted a bit more, and then I let him go. He was very nice, and I invited him to drop by here and to send notes to either Gord or myself anytime he wanted to. Donald, if you're reading this, thanks so much for your time the other night...I really enjoyed it! If anyone else wants to try calling that number, go right ahead. Word is that the folks at the show will keep randomly answering it for a little while, but not forever. And don't forget that they're mostly going to be taking next week off for the holiday..."Turk" needs some turkey!
Before I jumped onto my keyboard and told you all that DVDs were on-the-way, I wanted to check in with the folks at Disney/Buena Vista about this. After all, last March we passed on word from Zach Braff that the DVDs were coming, then in July we had to update that with new word from Braff that the DVDs had to be held off for a bit. So I thought it was best to check in with my contacts at the studio, which owns the Touchstone division that produces Scrubs.
The good news from the studio is that there ARE plans to put Scrubs on DVD in the late Spring 2005 timeframe. Internet rumors had mentioned "May" as a tentative month, and Disney confirmed that this is the direction their thoughts were going. Everything's subject to change, of course, and official announcements won't be made until after the first of the new year. But right now things are looking good for Turk, J.D., Elliot, Carla, Perry, and The Janitor.
Stay tuned, and we'll fill you in just as soon as we know more. In the meantime, don't forget that next Tuesday's episode looks really good: it guest-stars and was directed by Matthew Perry, who played "Chandler Bing" on Friends. I'm looking forward to it, and to these DVDs. We'll keep you updated on those discs, okay?

It was sometime post 9-11. About the time people started to calm down , when things started to feel "normal" again. I was in a karaoke bar talking to a blonde and a brunette, a little drunk and trying as hard as I could to be cute , funny , sexy , whatever would make them want to take me home with them. Call me ambitious , call me scum , it all depends on your point of view.
On the stage, some clod was butchering "Wild Thing" ( Troggs version ). Bursts of laughter echoed through the rafters, the air smelled of old ,spilled beer, cigarette smoke, and moderately priced perfume. Carrie and Lisas smiling faces glowed blue under the neon beer sign .
And finally, Lisa, she leans over to me, where Carrie can’t hear us and she says " So which one of us are you interested in ?"
I put on my most bewildered puppy face and I say , You mean I have to choose ?
She laughed a little, then a look of happy realization washed over her as if she were having one of those "a-ha moments" and she starts tapping Carrie on the shoulder, and she says to Carrie "he’s just like that guy, that guy from ’Scrubs’. " then that same look of a-ha realization crossed Carries' face, but I was just more confused.
So , one night a few weeks later I sat down and watched Scrubs for the first time. Before that I’d figured it was a just another in the long line of crappy shows that followed a long-running, well established, crappy show on NBC. It was the “Ass Pen” episode where Turk has to get Carla a gift that shows he knows her and really cares about her , he decides to get her a pen because she likes writing and thinks e-mails are too impersonal. Not having time to run out and buy one , Turk, finds a really nice pen in the “lost and found “ box only to later find out that there is no “lost and found box “ there is, however, an “Ass Box .“ ( Box full of things Doctors have pulled out of peoples asses. ) . Turk rushes to prevent Carla from receiving the gift he’s left for her but doesn’t get there in time and later has to admit where the pen came from. Instant classic , I’ve been hooked on the show since.
http://home.ripway.com/2003-12/44040/Srubs3.JPG
The first season DVD set is full of those moments and a surprising number of episodes I hadn’t seen before including the pilot , which could’ve benefited from some polish, but seeing that, really lets you in on some of the jokes that come later, culminating in the season finally where a new guy shows up for his first day and meets Janitor.
The humor , the drama , the quirky characters and their intimate ups and downs, the nostalgic soundtrack. At thirty five bucks it seemed a bit pricey, but 24 episodes and 588 minutes of Scrubby goodness makes it well worth it. I can’t wait for season two. It’s another $35.00 already spent.
*Looks back on this thread *
I guess voting really can make a difference .
I still wonder though , if Lisa and Carrie thought I was like J.D. or "The Todd" or …?

My mom paid for some repairs and my insurance company called and asked when I was able to drop my car off (right when I get settled into my new job) and told her I could this weekend. Which stinks because I am carless once again and my insurance only pays $12 per day for rental car and I was going to rent a car and pay the rest out of pocket, but Verizon decided to take more money they should (again) and now I have to deal with that.

After two years of unreliable service and overcharges, I went down to the store and bitched in front of potential customers before slamming my phone on the counter and telling them to keep it.
If your payment is a day late they'll cut you, and then when you make a payment it takes four days for them to turn it back on. And they still expect you to pay for those days when they weren't even providing service. Even when my payments were on time the damn thing would miss or just drop calls constantly
I had nothing but problems from them. Bastards.

I'm sorry Wingman. I really am, but avoid Verizon.... I heard their phone service is horrible and their DSL service can kiss my ass. But, I still have them because in my area we are only allowed Verizon which is such bullshit. I've had to reconnect my service three times and everytime that happens, they charge me a connection fee and then I go to check my balance to make a car payment and they took $126 bucks out of my account and when I call them to find out why, they are closed! Fuck Verizon! Fuck them up their stupid asses.

Just a heads up, yesterday I made a fool out of myself at work (thanks ADD) and FINALLY got my police report that my insurance wouldn't pay for. Here is the rundown:
* The guy had no insurance, nor a license to drive a motorcycle and his license had been suspended.
* The guy, whom I am going to refer as dickweed, was intoxicated that the police report said when the officer arrived to the hospital he was staying at, you could smell it coming off his breath. Though, a test was not taken since the guy had tubes coming out of his mouth.
* I don't think my insurance offers uninsured motorist on my policy, so I am extra screwed and my insurance rate is going to go up.
* He might be prosecuted.
Someone is testing me and it is not good. I am so stressed as it is with owing people money, it is just insane. I guess this just shows that being a grown up sucks! But, at least I love my job! Finally....
Contact a lawyer and sue this Asshole to recover your damages. And to think, you were wanting to see him in the hospital. I'm not usually to big on suing people just to sue, but frankly, you don't need to pay for all this. I assume that it's California law to require insurance, right?

I have a Blackberry through T-Mobile now. As a few of you know, the thing is a piece of shit. It drops calls, the speaker is horrible, it took 3 months for my e-mails to properly drop, and it's expensive (the company pays for it, but still).
Previously I had Cingular and Nextel. It may depend on where you are, but the Cingular coverage is excellent here. I would love to go back. I had Nextel when I worked up north and it also provided me with good customer service and a good phone. Most of the people I work with are now going back to Nextel because we run their data center and it's good to support your own customers. I am crossing my fingers that they will let me dump this T-Mobile piece of crap and shift over. However, Nextel is now with Sprint and I do not have good opinions on their customer service. I hope it doesn't effect Nextel.
jjcourtright
11-21-2005, 02:38 PM
My neighbor works for Nextel. He's writing the code to fix the year 2000 glitch. Not really. He's working on the code to combine the billing system from Nextel with the billing system from Sprint. He explained it thusly: Imagine that you have this nightmare of a billing system. Now imagine that you are merging with a company who has this nightmare of a billing system. Putting them together gives a nightmare of about four times the size.

I loved the second episode better than the first. I laughed so hard at the "Ketchup is for winners, Ted" line I snorted.
The first episode was so-so, but I think they had a lot of ground to cover in such a short time. Maybe with Elliot out of a job, it will bring her much closer to the gang and she might return to the hospital. They opened the door for a lot of stuff like Elliot coming back to work at Sacred Heart and that hot intern Keith or whatever his name is. I can't wait to see what happens. And I wonder if Carla and Turk will have their baby, though Carla looked a little tired throughout the two episodes. *sigh* This season has to be good... it just gotta!

My stupid internet crashed at work, and I had a brilliant response to your post Robbo, so here I go again...
Anyways, I like the fact that they are letting Jordan's bitchy behavior simmer down. I think it is good for her because it seemed like she was just handed everything and didn't look back at any lessons learned. And you never know, this could be temporary or it could be because once you have a baby (from what I heard) you have a little more compassion to things around you. But, hey, at least we can look forward to snaps at Dr. Cox.

Yeah, Zach did a great job. I was pissed they did not use more of Jason Bateman in the second episode. He only had like 8 lines total. Best lines.......
"Damnit!! I didn't know what I was high-fiveing again. I gotta stop doing that."
"Where do we meet in Heaven?
At the milkshake pool on the lesbian cloud."
"Dead people should be dead!"
"If I win that baby it's separate beds for me and my ma' ."
"Shoe shopping."
"He's hurting. Hug him, hug him now."
Yup, these were two of the best episodes ever.

I hate her too, but she didn't bother me tonight that badly at all. The falls were perfect. I have to give her credit.
That episode was perfect for Mandy more haters, I mean she gets punished the whole time.
Thank god the writers found a way to make her likable.
Kick her ass.

Well, then you loved the second episode.
I mean they had some great stuff in the first one though, the air band, turks dance, pretty much every scene with the janitor, and Kelso made me laugh so hard a few times I almost cryed.
Though, I can't blame you for hating Mandy Moore. I had to watch " A Walk to Remember" with my ex-girlfriend and I threw up for like a week straight.
Damnit, why did I have to bring that up....I feel sick again.

But, her and Zach are cute together.
And the second episode wasn't as great as the first. The first was amazingly awesome, though, the second episode had some funny bits.. Billy Dee Williams is still a good lookin' man. Love it, love it!

However, I think J.D. is actually in love with Elliot!I've picked up on hints of that, but I'm hoping that the writers haven't gotten so lazy where they need to rehash the story line from season three.
And last nights episode was really good too.
Carla: "He's not allowed to have me in his sex dreams. It gets too freaky in there."
Turk: "We're talking Cirque de Soleil freaky: one time she was skinless."

I've picked up on hints of that, but I'm hoping that the writers haven't gotten so lazy where they need to rehash the story line from season three.
Well, season one really. But, who's counting?
I'm expecting it though, but I really like Elliot's new boytoy. I think he is adorable, and doesn't seem to find anything wrong with her - well, except for the freaky gifts. But, I think it is time for her to settle down; if not with the new guy, then J.D. I think I am getting a little tired of the whole, "I'm dating 50 billion women" J.D.
Eh, who am I kidding?
Robbo_the_Hood
03-22-2006, 12:05 PM
Well, season one really. But, who's counting?Yeah, but Season Three is when he professes his love for her after pining for her all that time, and then realizes he isn't in love with her after all. That's why it sticks out in my mind, and why they shouldn't go down that route again.
But I'm with JD; inexplicably I don't like Keith either, and perhaps it's because I've got a thing for Sarah Chalke.
I'm pretty sure when Keith grows up (according to the show standards) he's going to break Elliot's heart. Then she'll turn to JD, but he's going to be conflicted over it because it's failed every time they've tried it. Or they'll get married and end the series.
ILovePapaSmurf
03-22-2006, 12:21 PM
Actually, I think that Keith has a pretty good chance on the show. They seem really perfect for each other, and they kind of have the same "brain" of sorts. I actually like him (well, he is really hot), and I think he would be good for her. But, who knows, the show is all twisted right now. And, having too many characters at the moment might have something to do with it.
I don't think J.D. and Elliot will get married at the end of the show. I think that would be an ending lots of people are expecting, and I think the writers will think of something different. I think it is just time for J.D. to settle down, and not date girls who are in love with his hair, or any Mandy Moore (uggh, biatch) types. What was really weird for me is, I watched Access Hollywood last night and that Maria chick was one it, but all her scenes were shown on the show, so when I watched the episode I was like, huh. Don't like her. I really don't.
And, I am really hoping that Turk and Carla finally have a baby soon. It seems a little rushed with the whole "Step," and I think it would be as annoying when they finally get word they are expecting.
Robbo_the_Hood
03-22-2006, 12:43 PM
Actually, I think that Keith has a pretty good chance on the show.I don't know. I mean, I don't dislike his character. I think Elliot is going to start mothering him, and he's going to leave her. Remember, he is fresh out of med school, meaning she's about five years older than he is. At that age, it is a world of difference in real life. For most shows, this type of continuity is irrelevant but the guys on Scrubs have been on the ball when it comes to that stuff.
(well, he is really hot), That's the real issue isn't it. You like the eye candy.
I agree that there are too many characters at the moment. With the way Keith was introduced in the season opener SPOILER (with him finally finding the courage to talk) and with this presumably being Zach Braff's final season, I wouldn't be surprised to see Keith become the main character should there be a next season. However, it would totally jump the shark.
I don't think J.D. and Elliot will get married at the end of the show.I don't either. I was just saying that.
I think it is just time for J.D. to settle downHe's still too messed up to settle down. If they are going to completely change his character, they'll have to start establishing it now and move it into next season.
And, I am really hoping that Turk and Carla finally have a baby soon. It seems a little rushed with the whole "Step," and I think it would be as annoying when they finally get word they are expecting.Yeah, but the writers have always been patient with their pay-offs and are really good at making them work. I'm sure we won't find out until the end of the season if they are having a baby or not. It's a really good story arc right now.
I'm really liking where they're going with Dr. Cox and JD's relationship, although they are balancing a very fine line between tweaking Dr. Cox's character and changing it completely, and I would hate the latter.

Wasn't she already in a relationship where she did that? I am sure she is learning from her mistakes.
That's the real issue isn't it. You like the eye candy.
And you do, too. ;)
I agree that there are too many characters at the moment. With the way Keith was introduced in the season opener.......and with this presumably being Zach Braff's final season, I wouldn't be surprised to see Keith become the main character should there be a next season. However, it would totally jump the shark.
I don't think they would make him the lead character, and I thought Zach said he was going to stay, last time I read. If he left, I think that would leave a HUGE hole in the show, since, well, the show revolves around him.
He's still too messed up to settle down. If they are going to completely change his character, they'll have to start establishing it now and move it into next season.
Maybe they will finally find a girl for him, and maybe he will finally get the chance to settle down. It would be nice because it seems like many main characters are always the bachelors. I think his longest relationship on the show was the chick from last season (who I really liked!). Maybe they will get back together?
Yeah, but the writers have always been patient with their pay-offs and are really good at making them work. I'm sure we won't find out until the end of the season if they are having a baby or not. It's a really good story arc right now.
Maybe they will end up with twins or triplets... kind of like 'friends,' but unexpected... I guess.
I'm really liking where they're going with Dr. Cox and JD's relationship, although they are balancing a very fine line between tweaking Dr. Cox's character and changing it completely, and I would hate the latter.
But, Dr. Cox has always had a soft side to him.. he just wont admit it. I would like to see more Jordan/Cox action. Christa Miller brings a lot to the show, even if she isn't on it that long.

NBC is putting them in a great time slot. Right after Earl and the Office. So, if Scrubs does not find a larger audience this season, I don't think I can blame NBC for not bringing it back next year. They have held on for 7 years, and have given them pretty good time slots.
So, EVERYONE MUST WATCH!! NO EXCUSES.... or we will be without Scrubs for next year.

Ok, Scrubs is back in a big way. I mean this season has been amazingly funny! Anyone else think that J.D. and Turk might not be living in the same cities soon.
I think with all the babies and seriousness, Scrubs has strapped on the water skis and is going full throttle towards the ramp.
However I say this every year, and every year they manage to snatch themselves away from the ramp saving themselves to try for the jump next season.
But babies...I don't know. That's a show killer. Jack is tolerable because he's so infrequent and hardly any of the plots revolve around him.
Watching Scrubs come close to jumping the shark every year is almost as fun as watching to see how whacky they get because they don't know if there is going to be another season.

If anything, Elliot will get knocked up at the series finale. They can't have all female characters with kids during the show's run. That would just be absurd.
I love how Elliot is going on a different Avenue now that Dr. Cox made her feel like shit. I've always liked her.
J.D. and Turk will never part. I can just feel it. They are too close together and with J.D. expecting a new baby, it will just bring them closer together. Ok, that was corny. I'm just going to stop.
