A new game is out. (http://edition.cnn.com/2004/US/11/21/kennedy.game.reut/index.html)
At first I thought "How tasteless" but then I downloaded the demo and realized just how brilliant this is! People can finally see exactly what the shooter(s) may have seen. Instead of watching some video in slow motion one can really get a sense of the speed and distance of the event.
Sure, some people will get a sick joy from it but I think this is exactly how "games" can involve people in a realistic "I was there" lesson in history.

where did you download it?

You can download it here. (http://www.jfkreloaded.com/)
You have to pay $10 to shoot. You can still get an idea of speed and distance by going through the demo.

Well, personally, I can't wait for the 9/11 game. I wonder how many points I'll be awarded for accurately slitting a stewardesses throat. /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

[/ QUOTE ] That's exactly how my thought process went. I come here and find that you said it first. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif It's more documentary than exploitation I think.

How is this any different from making a Black Hawk Down game, or a game where you participate in the D-Day invasion? Real people lived through that and people play games based on their pain.

The website's logo could be a little more tasteful.
Of course, some one is going to mod this simulation to include the rocket launcher from UT 2004.

Don't we all get a "sick joy" of some kind from any game. [GTA, Halo, etc.]

I was just about to say.... I wonder if I can take time away from playing UT long enough for this.

Well, I'm not a video game guy, so I've never played the games you speak of. But I'm pretty sure in the WW2 games they probably don't let you assume the role of Dr. Mengele and let you conduct experiments on children. You probably play it as the good guys, and inflict pain on only the bad guys. That makes a difference to me.

The good guys based on your definition. Soldiers do what they are told to do... or do you think that the average German soldier was evil?
They also made a game about Black Hawk Down. I know of some guys who are in their early 30s who were in that battle. They are not too happy about it... but millions of people have played that game without a second thought about their feelings.

I don't think the average German soldier was evil, but I also don't think that "just following orders" justifies the most base inhumanity and brutality. And I also don't think people should be awarded points for reenacting reprehensible acts.
And yes, I do divide people up into good and evil based on my own definitions. Whose definitions should I use instead?
Also, I don't really understand your point about the Black Hawk Down game. Are you siding with the soldiers, or like the feelings of the surviving Kennedy family, do you feel that their opinions should be pushed aside in the interest of "interactive history"?

I am not siding with anyone. I am saying that the issue is not black and white. There are good arguments for and against "games" based on real world events. Even tragic ones.

As long as you base your definitions of good and evil on facts and not conjecture. It does seem like you don't know the difference between a German soldier and a member of the SS.

True enough, Marv. Hey, aren't you guys making the official Goon toys? The site's Editor-In-Chief, Chris Ryall, is also a huge Goon fan. When they come out you should submit one to the site for review in the Toy Box (http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/toybox/index.html) column. That'd be cool. Welcome to the boards!
