View Full Version : What is the Column that you miss the most?
Just wondering what everyone here misses from the various columns that have come and gone. myself its "Blowing Out the Candles" i really enjoyed readin' the trials of Jason Pritchett as he tried to get Nevermind Nirvana off the ground.
Hey Chris, do you know his status on that project, an update would be appreciated.
So that's what i miss, what about the rest of you guys?

I dont know why but I favour the original game column to the current Game On.
I can't even remember who wrote the first one it was so long ago (I'm sure someone will remind me)
But yeah, not so much the column but the writer is what I miss.
Just dont like the current guy...

There's actually not a whole lot to report on NEVER MIND NIRVANA right now. Well, there is, and maybe Jason will be by and clarify, but the movie's not really any closer now than it was before...again, this is better explained by Jason, so I'll see if he can fill you all in.
To me that was the best part of the column, the obvious frustration over not being able to get it done. I can see how, as a writer, one would tire of writing about that week after week, but as a reader i certianly enjoyed reading about those frustrations, and rooted for him to get it made. If anything else, Jason can take pride in the fact that he introduce his audience to a new author. I had never heard of Mark Linquist before his column, but i bought that book from amazon and really enjoyed it.
That's twice now that the shoot has gotten me to check out something i otherwise wouldn't have (the 2nd being McSweeney's #10). That is something that everyone associated with this site can take pride in, i mean that's what the columnists want right, to share things they think are cool with others.

Robert Meyers Burnett's DVD column. I do like DVD Diatribe though so I feel a little better. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I miss the same two. Pritchett, and Burnett's columns... /forums/images/icons/mad.gif If Kendra chops down the forest of dead trees though, I'm going to be super pissed.

Jason Pritchett's column was awesome. I still believe it was the best column on the site. I was very upset when it ended. No explanation was ever given (the forums had been taken down and no one ever responded to my e-mails about it). He e-mailed me twice (well, he e-mailed me back twice) while he was writing the column and he seemed excited about it.

It's Friday--you should be.
Of course, the last couple columns Jason did got lost when that hacker hit us, but he DID explain in his final column that he was stopping doping it--there just weren't enough updates happening to keep it going, and he needed the time to actually work on the whole project. But he DID explain that he was stopping it until there was more to say.

Bringin this back to say that i'm going to miss AK and his Title 'Bout. I have the feeling that the man's already got the short timers disease. Still i always enjoyed his column, it was good for several belly laughs a week. I guess i'll never get to use the "it was a good day, didn't have to get my AK" line. oh well...
Chris what do you have on tap to take its place? Anything?
Also am going to miss Fridays highlight, Rudy Park. In the short amount of time it was on here i really enjoyed it. Since i usually look at this site at work, a nice short strip like that was perfect. Why is it going away? can you tell us?

I'm gonna miss it, too. I actually like their daily strips even better than the Sunday ones, and those are all always updated at rudypark.com -- they have a book collection of the strip coming out soon, too. Because their strip also runs in newspapers, they work through a syndicate. This syndicate typically only sells the strips to the papers -- that's how they get paid. But they were good enough to allow us to run it for 3 months for free (15 weeks, actually). But with the other costs on this site, we just don't have the extra funds to afford to pay the syndicate to run it each week, so it's going. Sucks. We even have to take the archives down after this weekend, so if anyone wants to read 'em again before it goes, I'd suggest doing so soon.
I'd also like to thank the RUDY guys for doing the strip here--they're good guys and I wish 'em well with the strip.
I figured it was something like that, Damn agents and syndicates, always trying to get thier clients paid for things. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif At least they got some free promotion through this site, though.
i shot on over to RudyPark.com and saw that they have a feature that allows their readers to request the strip from your local paper, so i hope that everyone here will do that.
i realize that the newspapers only have so much space on the comic space, but maybe they can get rid of Henry or Funky Winkerbean .
Chris, I wonder if you can get another 15 weeks of some strip to run in it's place and just kind of revolve them at the end of their time? I'm probably showing my ignorance with how things work in the world, but it would be cool if you could.

Too bad, that column had a lot of funny stuff- that's what brought me to this site. Lucky though, there is awesome content here besides that. And fairly intelligent people to discuss culture with! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
