Depeche Mode, the Cure, the Doors, Zepplin, Nirvana, Hendrix, PigFace, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Fugazi, Ministry, Butthole Surfers...
I could keep going, but I think you get it.

My top band is definately The Mad Capsule Markets. Ever since I've got their album OSC-DIS (Oscillator In Distortion). http://musicmoz.org/img/editors/againstdemons/oscdis.jpg
Everything else has had the volume turned down. These guys play some of the most massive guitar riffs that I haven't heard since I first heard Rancid. Though I don't think they classify as a Punk band. They're almost more of a fusion band. But if your into Punk and heavy stuff (And by Punk I mean real Punk, not that watered down [censored] MTV tries to pass off as Punk). You should definately check out this Japanese band. Check out the video to the track N(Pulse). It's one of my favorite videos.

I go through so many phases, playing a CD I love until I'm sick of it for a while. All-time, I lean towards U2, TMBG, INXS, CCR, and the Violent Femmes. Lately I've been listening to a ton of Lords of Acid, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, and "Once More With Feeling." Oh, and the soundtrack to a show I working on. Howard Goodall's "Girlfriends."

I am HORRIBLE at this--it changes daily. But I like your approach, so I'll try that, too:
All Time King: Hmm. Not sure. There's ANTHRAX, and there's MORPHINE and there's BRIAN SETZER, MOTORHEAD and SUBLIME and METALLICA and JOHNNY CASH and...yeah, I'm horrible at this.
Lately: Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams (ditto),Jayhawks (ditto), Ben Harper (ditto), Foo Fighters (ditto), Badly Drawn Boy (at work), The White Stripes (ditto), and also Built to Spill, Rocket From the Crypt, Jonny Lang, Bad Religion, old Bowie, Flaming Lips, John Lee Hooker, the Mars Volta, BRMC, Black Keys, Trail of the Dead, Tito & Tarantula, Tomahawk...
Old School: The Clash (ditto), The Doors (ditto), Rush, Kiss, Sammy Hagar, Sugar Hill Gang, Oingo Boingo...
The College Years: Counting Crows (ditto, kinda--"Anna Begins," anyway), U2 (ditto, kinda), Pearl Jam/Alice/Soundgarden/Mudhoney, Motorhead,
Party favorite: I've never been a big "party" music guy, so I'd throw on Robert Cray or Megadeth or something. My friends hated when I DJ'd parties. Parties became "Mornings Become Eclectic." I'd throw on Black Box or something to please the drunk girls.
and the winner of the "Which one of these things is not like the other" Sesame Street Award... Pantera "Cowboys from Hell!" (Ditto, but "Vulgar Display of Power" is even better). As far as me picking a favorite that's not too like the others, maybe Tori Amos' "Under the Pink."
Wait, was I supposed to pick just one?

Cowboys From Hell changed my view of music forever. I had been listening to top 40 crap before I heard that one. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Dammit Ryall - I knew I liked you!
I will agree, Vulgar Display of Power is the better album, and Walk is the all-time best "screw-you" song. Cowboys From Hell came out when I was thirteen, and like RB, it was a turning point for me.
On a side note: I am hoping Ryan Adams does not implode soon, because he is my current favorite artist. I miss Whiskeytown, but his last three albums have been incredible. Still, he looks like he could crumble at any minute.

It's good to see people raising the Pantera flag. Most people laugh when I say I like Pantera.

Well, with Ryan Adams, he's fighting that Winona Ryder Curse. So far, he, Beck and Jack White all seem to be avoiding the obscurity that's befallen Dave Pirner, Alice Cooper (kidding!) and so many others after dating her, that little minx.
Word is he has a new disc due later this month but I can't find any confirmation of this.
And in Pantera news, I guess Phil Anselmo's left the band for good, to concentrate on Superjoint Ritual. Not that I much care--after Far Beyond Driven, I thought they lost their touch, anyway.

I'd have to say they lost me after Great Southern Trendkill. I think it is just as good as Far Beyond Driven. But, after that...

The Winona Ryder curse; it now has a name. I wonder what she does that saps the creative juices out of her former boyfriends? Maybe she forces them to watch "How to Make an American Quilt" over and over and over...

Yeah - no info at all on Lost Highway or the official site. You are closer to the action, so keep me posted.
As for Pantera, I bought The Great Southern Trendkill and never played it. Someone stole my copy of Reinventing the Steel, and I never bothered to replace it. Guess I quit after Far Beyond Driven also.
