Greetings from the sidelines!

CUT AND DRY

The Colonial wrapped up in Ft. Worth on Sunday. If you ask most people, the interest in the tournament died when Annika Sorenstam missed the cut. If you ask me, this was to be expected.
What began as a media spectacle turned into the biggest ass kissing since the virtual BJ that was given to MJ when he left the NBA for the third time. Headlines screamed on the major sports pages “You go girl!” Yes, it is a shame that some backwater hicks invaded the golf course. See they don’t really understand this game or what Sorenstam did.

She failed. She did not make the cut.

What Sorenstam was trying to prove was that she could hang with the men. Her people scouted the most woman friendly course that they could find for her so she would look good. What they didn’t figure was the conditions at Colonial can go from good to bad in a matter of minutes.

Sure we all saw her one over par score for her first round ever. That was a nice 66th place. Impressive. When she missed the cut, it was deemed tragic. Hopefully this proved that even in the best set of circumstances, mixing the two tours is a bad deal for golf.

In the end everyone got what they wanted – Colonial got their publicity and their gate, Annika got her exposure.

CHARLES, PLEASE SHUT UP!

It was here in these pages (or back pages if you will) that yours truly called for the Spurs to win the Western Conference finals in six games over the Dallas Mavericks. Now seeing as how I am a Mavericks fan you might think that prediction was hard to swallow. Not really. I am a realist. I knew the Mavericks had a huge hole in the middle that would allow Tim Duncan to run over the Mavs. There was always a shot.

Then Dirk got hurt. Oh vey!

This is what some people like to refer as “Church.” You can always pray, but more than likely it is over with. But I am proud of the Mavericks. They have done well this post season. They have overcome a few obstacles and made a nice showing of themselves.

Contrary to what that fat bloated sack of a windbag Charles Barkley has to say.

Nothing defeats me more than listening to “Sir” Charles and his little band of cronies talk about the Mavericks and how much they stink. Hmm…Western Conference finals? I don’t think so.

They will point to the fact that they blew a 3-0 lead against the Portland Trailblazers. They will tell you that they should have beaten the Sacramento Kings easily after they lost Chris Webber. That was this week.

Of course a few weeks ago, Charles said Portland would sweep the Mavs. He also said that Sacramento was the deepest team in the league, and they still would beat the Mavericks. That‘s two wrong Charles.

Its nice to see Charles hating (no rings), Magic spouting sentences that make no sense (bitter over the Lakers losing), and Kenny Smith commenting on the lack of “stars” on the Mavs roster (takes one to….). The post game show has turned into nothing more than a bunch of old timers rambling about nothing but shock value. I pity Ernie Johnson.

Really.

But I digress. The future does look bright for Big D. Maybe one more piece to the puzzle.

And another cheeseburger for Charles.
