Daily Show viewers more intelligent on average then O'Reilly's (http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/entertainment/index.ssf?/base/entertainment-3/109632716497850.xml&storylist=entertainment)
BWA-HA-HA-HA!

Seriously though, I'm so thankful I have the Daily Show to watch. I don't know of any other show that does such a good job cutting through both sides' rhetoric and taking the media to task for its indolence. And they're funny to boot. Television journalists could all learn a thing or two from Stewart and company. I don't know whether that should be sad or scary. I'll go with both.

Tell me you saw it last night. I only watched the first two segments, but the opening segment was as funny as I've seen The Daily Show.

What is even funnier is how they overreacted to what O'Reilly said. He was clearly joking and when I heard Stewart on Howard Stern and he was crying about it I thought he was kidding.

Having said that, of course more intelligent people watch The Daily Show. You need to be intelligent to enjoy it. I think that if you don't "get it" that the humor will be lost on you. That is why O'Reilly's joke should have been obvious... stoners are too slow for that show.

You think O'Reilly was joking, though? I think that is what he actually believes, and in typical Bill O'Reilly fashion, he pulled some numbers out of his ass to "support" his claim.

We don't get Stern here, so I don't follow him, so I didn't hear about Stewart's reaction. I do think that Comedy Central overreacted to O'Reilly's claim, but Stewart I thought played it pretty well in the opening of last night's show.

Well obviously he was joking. But sometimes the jokes people make can reveal certain attitudes they hold. I saw the interview in question and it also appeared quite obvious O'Reilly didn't hold the show in that high of a regard.

There is no doubt.

As for the Stern show, Stewart was acting like Bill raped him.

I've only read transcripts, so I guess his jovial nature didn't translate well.

I've always like Jon Stewart and his unscripted stuff always seems better. I saw him interviewed on another channel during the whole issue of who really won the election. He looked so tired, but was just naturally funny.

I'd take him over Bill Mahr any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

It was pretty light hearted. In fact, if you go on O'Reilly's show he usually kids around a lot with the guest. It is those who refuse to interview with him that he attacks (left and right alike).

Razor's right. He's usually pretty soft on any "celebrity" guest on his show.

I watch both shows so what does that say about me?
I also watch Chris Mathews' Hardball, Dennis Miller and Sportcenter.

Chris Matthews is the best. He is pretty even handed for a democrat. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Yeah, he worked for Carter so you know where he's coming from, but i think he's real Entertaining. It is curious that people who complain about O'Rielly telling people to "shut up", never mention Matthews shouting someone down.

The "shut up" thing comes from O'Reilly saying he's never told someone to shut up. I used to watch him a lot more than I do. I've been finding it increasingly difficult to watch. I still do from time to time though.

The Daily Show is my shizzaht!

Matthews voted for Bush in 2000. He's said so on the air and in his book, Now let me tell you what I really think.

I believe someone counted it and O'Reilly has said "shut up" seven times on his show.

Sweet! so I am intelligent?!? Thats awsome. I knew I shouldn'ta doubted myself. John Stewart is the god of the news.

I agree completely. It has been and continues to be Fantasticular. I've been a fan since he was spoofing Clintons B.J. and tasticular since about the same time.

Second only to "Scrubs" on my short list.

I too was watching when Kilborn was hosting. But the show didn't really hit it's stride until Stewart came on board.

I still have VHS tapes of the Jon Stewart Show on MTV. I'm glad he hit his stride with The Daily Show because he's always had the charisma and wit. I have to admit I was a little worried about The Daily Show when Kilborn left and Stewart came on just because I felt like I was one of the few people who would appreciate him. So glad I was wrong.

Just bought America: The Book. Such funny stuff. Everyone buy it, read it and memorize it.

Also, would it be possible to have an underline UBB code? I always feel weird when I write out the title of a book and don't underline it. Or is there a net equivalent of which I am unaware?

That's a good question. I've posted at other places that seemed to have the same UBB code as here but there were advanced options for underlining, scrolling text, audio and video and other fun stuff. I'm not asking for all of that, but some underlining would be nice.
