Ryall was right. This show is par excellence. Anyone not watching this show is missing out. Watch the whole two hour pilot this Saturday. Seriously. So much potential.

Yeah. I find myself much more inclined to switch to ABC 9pm Wednesdays rather than stay on WB.

I heard about this show about the middle of the summer, and I was thinking holy shit, that looks awesome. Plus, Dominic Monaghan is in it. Not only is he hot, but he was also a hobbit.

Jason's pic killed me... but don't be so sure it's a dinosaur...

Yeah, I watched it again this week, to see if I was just so starved for a good pilot during the summer that I was overly kind. Nope, this one really does hold up so far. And the polar bear thing takes it to a different place than just being a deserted island with dinosaurs. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a "Dr. Moreau" kind of thing.

I think the mystery of the island is going to have more to do with the scary scar guy's explanation of backgammon to the kid. That scene just screamed, "HEY! THIS IS FORESHADOWING!" And since the scene in question sent a serious shiver up my spine, I definitely have high hopes for where this show is going.

I girl at my work has tried to watch, but said it was too scarey for her. I would watch it, but I'm getting rid of my cable in a couple weeks and don't want to start on a new series. I'm sure it'll be on DVD after the season anyways, so I'll just watch it then. Though it sounds like I missing some pretty cool stuff.

Matt1

It's on ABC dude. The fact that it has some genuinely scary parts and is on network TV is just another testament to its supreme goodness.

You should be able to. provided you aren't too far away from the transmitter. Hell switch your TV from Cable to Air and see what comes in. If the station is ABC 6, tune to channel 6

I live out in the middle of nowhere (I think it's even legal to burn garbage there, well at least my neighbors think so). Well, I'm sort of on a mountain so I guess it's worth a shot.

I can say it is diffenately not dinasaurs.

I loved the reveal on the scrapnel guy. It was done in such away you just assumed he was fodder. It didn't come across like they were hiding the fact for the reveal. JJ is a good director and I look forward to the rest. I'm not biased or anything *hides Alias shoes and Alias poster in her house*

I am completely shocked by this show. I usually hate television... I just watch things because they're on and not because I actually want to. And now this messes all of that up because I really do want to watch it.

Help! My Tivo screwed me tonight. It cut out before the show had completely ended. It was right at the part where the father and son were in the background playing with the dog, and the bald ominous man was in the foreground watching them. The camera looked as though it was going to sweep around and move close up on his face. What happened after that? The bald ominous guy did something ominous I imagine. Anyone?

FanGirl

That's where they ended it. On a close up of his face. You didn't miss a thing.

Did anyone else wonder why they didn't mention the polar bear?

I'm guessing that the polar bear was forgotten in all the hubub about the 16 year old distress call. that's the only thing i can figure. (though, why they didn't like skin it and try to preserve the meat is beyond me, especially since they will no doubt run out of food at some point.) Polar bear fur would make a nice crib blankey for when baby comes.

Does anybody else keep blurting out, "A plague on both your houses!" everytime they see the father/Mercutio?

Matt1
10-07-2004, 05:04 PM
Yes, but I didn't get to see the close-up on his face. It was about to show it then it cut off. So what kind of face was he making? Was he smiling maniacally? Or what?

FanGirl

The same smile he had when he was just sitting on the beach in the first episode. It's just a smile, but we all assume is so much more.

Yippee! Another great episode tonight!

(But, what's up with Smallville? I like the show, but these last two eps have been downright sad.)

Hmm... so now we have two characters on the show named for Enlightenment philosophers: John Locke and Rousseau. Now what do you think the significance of this could be? Is it simply that they will influence the new society developing on the island much as Locke and Rousseau influenced American society? Or could it be something deeper?

Also, any new Island theories yet?

I really like the show, but for some reason, I just can't seem to get into watching the TV on Wednesdays.

It is good to see this one working again. I liked her character on Babylon 5.

The polar bear and the other bears (she referenced) might have some from another plane wreck/boat wreck.

Beyond that I have no clue what to guess. Is it just me or the Paul Dini and JJ episodes stand out alot more than the others?

Dave
11-19-2004, 11:48 AM
Spoiler warning, i guess.

I liked how she told Sayeed that "There's no such thing as monsters". Which leads to the question of "What is that thing then? Does every person see the creature a different way?

And what do you think about this "disease" we now have to watch out for? Is it just a function of her own psychosis?

I think that's the nature of the island. It makes you confront your past in a very real and physical sense. Some people succeed and some people fail. I'm going with the Flatliners theory.

Let's assume that this discussion will incorporate theories and speculation, and include events from aired episodes, and therefore be all SPOILERIFFIC.

She said she was part of a scientific study, so maybe the polar bear was on the boat that she was on, as was whatever else.

Also, she mentioned her child Alex. Never specified a gender, by the way. Is the entire cast accounted for as having been on the plane? If not, that pregnant girl is a bit pregnant to have been let onto a commercial flight. Also, her Aussie accent didn't show up until week 3, when she found out where the plane was from perhaps?

Just some guessing.

Dave

but who would have knocked her up? and if she had spent all her life on an deserted island, would she know what creamy peanut butter is?

DangerSeeker
11-19-2004, 03:32 PM
Just a theory. No idea how to answer those questions. I do think "Alex" is one of the group, though.

FanGirl

Interesting theories, I must say. I will pass them along and see what kind of reaction I get.

Matt1

In all the flashbacks to the plane, we have yet to see Hurley...

The disease will figure into this somehow I believe, but its not the secret of the Island. I think it might be linked to that "Black Rock" Rousseau mentioned going to, and the two little stones they found on the fifty year old bodies. My feeling about the Island's mystery is that it is less sci-fi, more magical.

Also, Locke is back on my suspicious list. The way he sent Sayeed in Sawyer's direction last week seemed very calculated. And he definitely has a motivation for not wanting off the island.

And did anyone else notice that the very episode there is mention of some kind of virus, a survivor breaks out in a rash?

ratm1966
11-20-2004, 01:14 PM
Maybe I missed some, which is very likely as I didn't catch the whole episode, but I thought the lady and Sayeed were talking about the rest of her party and that Alex was one of them. Before she mentioned that Alex was her child, didn't she say she had to shoot Alex?

I think it airs again tonight, so I will have to try and catch it in it's entirety.

I think she said she had to shoot her husband, because he lost his mind. She just said Alex was "missing"? That happened just before she let Sayeed go off. I thought the voices he heard in the middle of the island were a nice twist. Is he hallucinating? Was it her suggestion of the voices? Pretty trippy...

I thought Pippin got over his heroin addiction in a magical sort of way. It was a lot like Locke's ability to walk again. It must be the power of the island? Like confronting personal demons or something. Something to the inlightment-philospher angle too. This show just keeps me guessing.
