View Full Version : That crazy Cat...
Stevens.
Holy peace train! Cat stevens and planes don't mix! (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=5&u=/ap/20040922/ap_on_re_us/plane_diverted)
Unless anyone else knows otherwise about Him, I'm a little surprised that they diverted the plane and denied Him entrance into the U.S..
That's too bad.

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out (Unless the Muslims tell you not to anymore)
And if you want to be free, be free (Just don't come back to the US)
'Cause there's a million things to be
You know that there are
And if you want to live high, live high (Are you talking about drugs?!?!)
And if you want to live low, live low (that's better)
'Cause there's a million ways to go (airplane shouldn't be one of them)
You know that there are
You can do what you want (except fly to Washington)
The opportunity's on (buy a plane ticket)
And if you can find a new way (get past security)
You can do it today (until you get caught)
You can make it all true (unless you use a different name)
And you can make it undo (well the feds can at least)
Well if you want to say yes, say yes (No!)
And if you want to say no, say no (Yes!)
'Cause there's a million ways to go (take a train next time)
You know that there are

What a friggin' joke. Cat Stevens is not a threat to national security. I'm sure the government had a real tough time finding a famous singer/songwriter. Good to know that our tax dollars fund advanced systems that can keep track of a well publicized figure. This is ridiculous discrimination, barring access based on religion. The government is clearly saying 'All Muslims are terrorists', a stereotype that all Islam-Americans are having enough trouble coping with. This is just good ol' grade A stupid.

maybe they were afraid his not threatening peacefull songs would lull the crew to sleep thus leaving Cat free to fly the plane into things.

Then again, I did notice the words "sleeper cells awake" being sung during a rendition of "The first cut is the deepest". Uh-oh. We better detain Sheryl Crow while we're at it.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree they over reacted, but it isnt true that the whole Goverment feels that way, or even if thats what they are detaining him for. For all we know Stevens has freaked out on planes before, we just havent heard about it.

I didn't say the entire government feels that way, I just said that they are sending an undeniable message through their actions, one that they should be well aware of. Our government stopped being a role model for the country a long time ago.

You mean our government founded by slave-owning, gun toting, womanizing, Indian killers? Surely you jest.

If I were a Uber Liberal I would argue that I was correct. But since I'm not an Uber Liberal: I just wanted to say that yes I was being stupid, and on purpose this time.

May come off as a thread "hijacking" attempt, but it's so interesting this should come up. Did you know the first documented use of biological warfare took place right here in the good old USA? We sold blankets used by smallpox patients to the Indians. We killed more Indians that way than we ever could've in battle. I took a very interesting class on that--just a little factoid, thought you might like to know.

I could argue that during the Dark Ages they shot dead plauge victims with catupualts during a siege, but I dont think they knew what they were doing. I think they just thought it was cool.
Also I think everyone knew about the blanket thing.

Touche, mark. I'll concede that. But, you could at least act surprised about the blanket thing. I've had a hard week. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Didn't an Al Jazeera broadcast say that the full-scale attacks would be brought about by a new Cat Stevens record. Records are always released on a Tuesday. Think about that.
