... thus cheapening their true meaning and pissing me off:

Evil
Love
Fascist
Liberal
Racist
un-American
Patriotic/Patriotism

Any others that should to be added to the list?

I think it is evil that those un-American racists claim to love patriotism yet in the same breath bitch about facist liberals.

Radical
Fundamentalist

These are used in such a derogatory fashion now, they mean pretty much nothing, like "liberal" and "patriotic". Telling someone they are any of these is meant to be an insult, like it's a bad thing. I'm all about the fundamentals, myself. And weren't our founding fathers "radicals"?

What really ticks me off is that people don't know the politics behind most of these terms. They're a bunch of capitalizing communist nazis, that's what they are.

I'm getting pretty sick of the phrase "That being said,". It seems like people use it too much, i'm seeing/hearing it everywhere.

Just say something like "what i just said was bullshit, this is what i really think."

this is the phrase we use at work when someone has to go take a dump.
"I'me backed up in my own endzone, i think i'm going to have to punt."

You don't even want to know about "hangtime" either.

If a true patriot kills for his freedom, but never uses his it to defame the nation, the election process, or a republican party, I'm fine to eschew the title. If liberal distinguishes me from Jerry Fallwell, I'll take it in a heartbeat. Hell, if Pinko Commie Bastard or any other of these bitterly plastered labels will keep idiots who see value in said labels from talking to me, I'll take any can find.

Labels are things people put on you to keep them from having to see what's inside. If its thus a barrier to communication with them, I find it hard to see what your loosing.

I think Dr. 3vil was wrong, but only because he's a liberal fascist banana lover, and of course, all banana-loving fascists are evil. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

A few words/phrases that are underused are: Wicked, shut-the-hell-up and This-one's-on-me.

"Like"
"Cool"
"Racism"
"Hero"
"Anti-American"
"Whatever"

Insert any word a dumb high school (not all, thank you lord) kid may use to describe almost anything.

It pisses me off when people open a sentence in the middle of a dialogue with "No!" when it isn't a direct refusal so much as an expansion on something you said.

"Let's go to the movies."
"No! Movies then we get a drink!"

It's an annoying way of saying I don't care what you just said, everything is my idea and I'm in control. Pisses me off. Listen for it. People do it a lot more than you'd think.

marksiwel

NO! People do it a lot more than YOU WOULD think!

Who else saw that coming?

Droogan_Leader
09-22-2004, 01:14 PM
Good point, Danger. I hadn't thought about it for a while, because I avoid controlling people, but sometimes you just can't help it. I was helping a friend move a couple of weeks ago, and one of the people there was a serious type A personality, and I picked up really fast that the world revolved around her. I'm not trying to be sexist in saying this, but has anybody else noticed that when there is an overly vocal shrewish woman in a group of friends, most guys shy away from confrontation, although everyone wants to say something?

And one of the ladies I work with, she is the exact same as this girl I just described. I put my fingers in a can of cashews (because I only wanted two or three, if I poured, I would've gotten too many and appeared rude), and she proceeds to start fussing at me, and (she's racist) tell me how it is "cultural", that she lives around a lot of white people, and white people are just "rude like that." Now, I was there with about 4 black people, who all know she's racist and think most of what she says is preposterous, but nobody said anything. I think sometimes people don't say anything because they know someone like that will only get more roused if they are confronted by someone who is equally verbal.

...Maybe the only thing those types understand is a kick in the nuts.

Oh, it's rude, because it's so unsanitary, apparently. And, she was "afraid of where my hands had been," although this can of cashews is at the front desk in the warehouse--everyone stops by.

What gets me is how white culture is apparently so unsophisticated. That just had me flabergasted. I hate that, when I get caught off guard and can't zing 'em back. Of all people, this one deserved it too. She said she "had been to parties and seen them [white people] stirring their coffee with their fingers." All of us were like, "so what if they do--it's their personal cup of coffee." Ooh, that gets me.

..And I always think up clever responses later, and then I get mad at myself.

Over used words:

“Basically” – I hear this a lot, I think it is an attempt to re-iterate for the dumb (or perceived dumb), giving to much information and then trying to boil it down for the little guy; i.e. “I was trying to setup an interferometeric method to measure thickness when I realized that my coefficient for thermal expansion also included a dynamic index gradient variable, basically it didn’t matter, I just held the experiment isentropically and the results were rolled into a single result.” [/Professor Frink's voice]

Sigh…

Word I can’t decide on:

Fuck

Words not used enough:

Bitchin’
Wicked
Killer
Balls!

Fuck is way overused. It's losing its shock value, which saddens me, since I have always woven a beautiful tapestry of profanity.
When I was in high school, these two guys were fighting and once it had been broken up, they guy on the short end of the whoopin' blurts out...
