Wow..I don't know why i'm posting this, but I feel [censored] horrible. A little over an hour ago I was driving down my dirt road and turned around a corner. I fish tailed it like I always do, but was going too fast this time. I tried to correct it but completely lost control, went through an electric fence and into a ditch. I was wearing my seatbelt, and luckily the kid I was taking to my soccer practice was too.

God, I feel like shit. I could have died. I even just got a parking permit to drive to school and park, but I guess I can't do that now.

I'm really shaken up right now, I'm sorry guys.

We've all had similar situations like that. I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. Just be happy you are ok and safe. And the kid too.

So does that mean your car is KO'd?

Sorry to hear about your situation. Car accidents are some of the most frightening accidents to have because they are so jolting and so out-of-control. Hope you feel OK enough to hop back on that horse -- don't let it scare you too much because accidents happen to everyone.

I have a friend who is a maniac behind the wheel. I mean, this guy drives applying the physics of The Dukes of Hazzard. I've been in an accident with him where I had to be checked for a concussion. He's run over shopping carts, hit parking lights, as well as a number of other cars. He's run people off the road, been run off the road. He's jumped an expressway median doing over 120 mph. If that's not bad enough, he even pissed off another driver one time to the point that his passenger got out and sucker-punched me in the face (a story in itself -- and I wasn't even driving!).

What I'm getting at is, Jason's first accident happened when we were in high school and it was very similar to yours. He was going too fast on a dirt road, lost control around a 90-degree turn, and ended up hitting a tree. Basically, he totalled the blazer he was driving and he almost killed himself and my friend Chad.

Moral of the story? Take a breath and make sure you learn from the mistake.

Stories like that make me pine for my '68 Buick and the days when driving recklessly held few consequences.

Yeah, it's totaled. I owe my parents a ton of money.

Hope you're ok man. Car accidents can be a real bad experience. That's what I fully scared of when I get my license (in like 2 weeks). I'm worried I'll be giving my bro's friends lifts or going out with my girlfriend and I'll kill us both or something. Scares the shit out of me. Oh, and I almost killed one of my mates yesturday. We were on our way to uni, driving down an 80km/h road and just seemed to keep getting faster. The dickhead went all the way up to 150km/h, no bullshit. That scared the shit out of my.

May I suggest saving a bunch of money on your car insurence by switching to Geico? Just be happy that you and the kid are all right, it could have been a lot worse.

I had a friend once claim that all inexperienced drivers have 3 incidents when they start. Two minor mishaps and one major crasher. For some reason this number does seem to be accurate. Every skill takes practice, and technically the first year of driving is nothing but practice. Couple this with the fact that every 16 year old has the inclination to show off in a car.

We all have had accidents. Heck, my own mother totaled my 3 month old (with only 1,500 miles) Chevy Blazer when I was in college. The car was practically still a demonstrator when she decided to take it to the demolition derby. /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif

You should look at this as a good learning experience about your car and how freaky it is to hit something. Of course, your parents will NEVER let you forget it anyway.

I'm yet to have the "major crasher". The first winter that I had my license, I slid on snow into a curb at about 7 mph. I ended up busting a tie-rod, but nothing really serious. The only other "accident" I've been in, I was driving a friend home in the snow ([censored] snow), showing him what "Buck" could do. Slid out and wiped out a ladies mailbox. Probably could have gotten away with it, but I'm too nice. I left her a note to call me to fix her mailbox. I went back the next day and put in a new post.

Well, I'm proud to say that since I started driving, I've never encountered or caused any sort of traffic accident. Is it luck? Is it skill? I'd like to say it's because I haven't been driving all the much to begin with. And my speed limit seems to be capped at about 45. Lead foot my ass.

Accidents are forgiveable, so long as you don't kill anybody. Anybody important I mean. Feel free to rundown as many hobo's as you like.

When I rolled a car a few years back (long story) I was terrified of what my parents would say. Their reaction? A car is just metal, glass, and plastic. The important thing is that what can't be replaced made it out okay.

Don't get upset. Be thankful you're around to worry.

Not even a transient? What are you, some kinda commie?

China_Town

Damn. That sucks. I've only had one real bad driving experience man. I was commin up this snake hill, which isn't that windy, not as windy as the other one a few miles from me. I could see clear up the hill, but still there are some turns. I don't know what I was thinkin. I wasn't thinkin, or maybe I was thinkin too hard. I dunno I'm not a doctor. When I hit the hill, I was going like 90, I don't know why, I just had it in my head. I don't even know why I didn't react when I should have. It was just one of those times, you know, when you feel like you wouldn't care if you lived or died. But I'm not suicidal or anything, alls I know is that I got up the hill. I made the first turn to the right, then the wind to the left.. then I think I cut to the right again too sharp. The left side of my car lifted off the ground, and should have flipped over, but somehow, out of some sort of reaction, or something I jolted the wheel as fast as I could to the right, in the way my tire was already turning, somehow managed to balance the car out again, then I remember being airborn for about 5 seconds, and a big slam, as all my cd's and everything hit the ground. I landed upright in a ditch. No major problems with the car, just a flat tire rear right tire. I was just shooken up. I just walked home, which was like 3 minutes away, and all that. It was f'd up. Cuz I don't know why I didn't flip over. I don't even remember what I did, I just didn't even think about pullin the wheel, it just happened. I dunno.

I didn't even get a ticket for it. The cop thought it was I hit black ice, and he helped us get a tow truck and all that. He said that, if I was going over 45 miles per hour I would have flipped over the driveway, that was 2 inches away from where I landed in the ditch, and I probably would have been dead. But I was going 90.

Thats the first and only time I've ever been in a serious accident. But man I almost get killed like 5 times a day just trying to get home. I have this small very small snake hill going up to where my house is, the roads not even made for trucks larger than a pickup, but all the time I always run into Semi-Trucks comming full speed, down this little damn hill, taking up the whole road, giving me barely 2 inches to get by, its either being hit directly by a semi going 30+ or turning into a steep hill that drops about 15 feet, risking the flip over factor. That happens every day. But I'm still alive and kickin.. I think....

Alls I can say is. When your in those kind of situations, just stay calm, and let things come as they come, no matte rwhat the outcome, when you are calm you can think clearly and you're more likely to make the wrong decisions. It's better to think about how to stop a ticking bomb for 50 seconds, and work on it for the remaining 10 seconds, than to scramble around for a minute, with conflicting thoughts and emotions. Thats what I've learned, maybe it'll help yall, maybe I'm just talkin to a brick wall, that seems to happen a lot. But what the hell do I got to lose? I don't have a reputation to begin with, so either take it or leave it. I'm not the one to feel sorry for people, I'm only good with advice, just from experience, when people need you, and you help them, they're bound to use you to lick their wounds. Then forget about you when they're done with you. I can't tell you how many times thats happened to me. I'm not even twenty yet, and I've already talked 15 of my friends out of killin themselves. Then havin them say "Who the fuck are you?" when they got all better. I've got nothin to show for it. But eh I do know what I'm talking about Sometimes. I think. But yea. I'll stop now.

Another thing, believe yourself, except the fact that it happened, and learn from it, you're alive and well, next time it may not be that way, but maybe there wont be a next time if you know how to play the cards you've been delt right.
